I have a 120 year old house and it is a massive headache. Every restoration, patching and/or paint job ends up being a research project. The folks at this store have always been extremely friendly and helpful and most importantly… ACCURATE in all their advice. Ignore the smack talk about how expensive Benjamin Moore paint is. Yes, duh, we all know it is expensive. You do get what you pay for. If you are choosing to buy that paint there is a reason. They also carry Mad Dog exterior primer which is a godsend if you are dealing with peeling issues. Maybe if all my walls were drywall and my house was built in 1990 and covered in vinyl siding I could get away with shoddy paint and service from Home Depot. And maybe I would even enjoy needing 3 coats of finish paint on everything. However, if you want quality paint and service I highly recommend this store.

My wife and I have been going to JC Licht since we moved to the area 7 yrs. ago, and we buy nothing but Benjamin Moore paint. We understand that it costs more, but the quality cannot be beat. I don’t mind spending $ 60 for a galloon of paint especially when it covers another color in ONECOAT(specifically Aura). If you don’t want to spend that much, go over to Home Depot and buy their brand, and enjoy doing two coats. What sets this store apart is their customer service. It’s nice to be recognized in a neighborhood store. If you’re a regular customer, call ahead with your paint color, and they’ll have it waiting for you by the time you drive over. This type of service would never happen at a big box store.

I hate how much Benjamin Moore paints costs — I think we can all agree that $ 25 for a quart is ridiculous — but if you’re in the market, as I sometimes am, JC Licht is the place to go. Yes, they carry expensive products. In addition to Benjamin Moore paints, JC Licht offers Hunter Douglas window treatments(custom made) and a wide array of wallpapers, including Thibault and York brands. The Geneva store also sells the paint brushes, rollers, trays, drop cloths, etc. What sets this store apart is the customer service. Every time I have walked into JC Licht, I am greeted warmly, and the staff is more than willing to help. I usually have to wait 5 – 10 minutes to get what I need, but I have no problem with a small wait so long as I am treated well. The store saves its customers’ order information on a computer system, so the staff can look up my previous orders if I ever want to buy the same item twice(in fairness, Lowe’s has the same kind of set-up). Staff is extremely competent when it comes to the products they offer. When I was looking to paint some wood trim surrounding our bar in the basement, JC Licht pointed me to the right product in seconds. I really appreciate that kind of service, and it makes me return to the store(at least, whenever I decide to splurge on Benjamin Moore!).
