Mr. Handyman of N.E. Austin and Georgetown

I don’t understand why they have such a high rating on Unilocal.Are their ratings real? Did they ask friends and family to write the reviews because there was nothing 5-​star about my recent experience with Ron.
I filled out their online request for service. He responded really quickly but apparently didn’t actually have his schedule in front of him. I wanted to set up an appointment. I just bought a new condo. We went back and forth via email as I tried, to no avail, to nail down an appointment. He finally wrote: «I will let you know Monday». That was it. It was Saturday. I was a prospective customer with lots of business for them. Ron should have responded to me on Saturday with an appointment schedule in front of him so he wouldn’t have to ask me what day of the week the dates I gave him were (while typing his emails on his smartphone that has a calendar!).
He finally gave me a day and time on Monday when I emailed him again. 8pm, the night before my appointment, he sent me a message letting me know the tech wouldn’t be able to show up at the scheduled time because he has a doctor’s appointment. He said the tech would call me when he was on his way. That’s it. Who can plan around that? How unprofessional! When Ron first gave me the appointment, he wouldn’t give me a quote. He said it’s hard to say so they tech will give you a price when he gets there. What??? You have to at least give someone a price range. I only got a price range when I insisted he give me a quote. So, this last-​minute arrival mystery was too much. I sent him a simple response: «please cancel my appointment».
Ron, if you’re reading this, please know I am a loyal customer. If I find good service, I give my business for years. Had you been courteous and professional, I would have been happy to pay for your services. You can’t half-​ass your communication with prospective customers.

Just had a second job done by them and I’m really impressed.
We had a door that wasn’t sitting straight in a frame that was rotting away in places, meaning it never latched and a lot of cold/​hot air came in around the door. Another company looked at it and said absolutely nothing could be done to fix it and that I would have to just replace the whole thing and start over, a job that would cost us about $ 1000 because it’s technically but not actually a double door. (Ugh, old houses, right?)
Mr. Handyman came out and said they could replace just the parts of the frame that were rotten while keeping the actual frame and door. For $ 400 and half a day’s work, we have a door that now sits straight within its frame, latches every time, weather stripping to help even more with the insulation, and peace of mind that my cat can no longer open the door and start exploring the great outdoors.

Needed a few repairs to the house that were beyond my capacity and read many great reviews about Mr. Handyman. I live in Round Rock but their office in Georgetown is the one that services my area (East side of I-​35). I was contacted quickly by the service person after calling the office to inquire about possible repairs. I was actually looking to get an estimate and they provide them free!
Ron (the owner) was even ahead of schedule on the day he came, but called ahead to make sure I was available before getting here. I showed him what I was looking to get repaired and after assessing it, he explained to me in layman terms what he would do and how he would do it. I was so pleased with his estimate that I cancelled the others I was looking to get.
They showed up on repair day on time and provided repairs in a timely manner, leaving the surrounding areas exactly as they found them.
You got to love a service that doesn’t try to BS you. Mr. Handyman was straight-​forward and did exactly what they said they would do, and actually the repairs done for me were even better than I expected.
I will certainly call them should I need any future work done to my home.
