My parents were visiting, so I wanted to take them to try a new indian place. Unilocal suggested spice grill when we were in the area and off we went. The restaurant is located in a strip mall. Walked in and though the place seemed empty, we were greeted warmly by the owner and server. We ordered he family dinner for two, the chicken 65, the lamb Tikka masala and garlic naan and Roti. As part of the family dinner, for starters we got the vegetable pakora, which was quite nice and fresh, the lentil soup, which was also decent. The chicken 65 was also nice but a little soggy. It’s supposed to be crispy. We also got the kabab platter, and the shrimp tandoori was too salty. The chicken noorani kabab was perhaps the saving grace. Now to the main course. As part of the family dinner we got the mixed vegetable, which was horrible, Dal Makhani which was sweet(yuck), and the lamb curry which was probably the only dish which lived up to the Unilocal reviews, though it was in the oily side. The lamb Tikka masala was more like a lamb jalfrezi, in that it was an onion and tomato based curry, with nary a flavor of Tikka masala. Overall though, I would say it tasted decent, but nothing over the top. Of the breads, the garlic naan was the best as it was fresh out of the oven and really tender and flavorful. Overall I had a «meh» time at spice grill and I can clearly say that curry place(further down wisteria drive) is much better. I hope they decide to revamp their menu sometime soon.

I’m not an Indian food connoisseur by any stretch, but this lunch buffet was worth the 10 bucks. I can’t name anything I had on my plate, but everything I had was generally good. The food was flavorful, although some dishes could use a little salt. Their take on rice pudding was interesting. I could taste ginger and some other flavor that I’ve never had in rice pudding before. It was pretty good. If I had to pick a favorite, it would be the red chicken. Again, I have no clue what it is or how they prepared it, but you’ll know it when you see it. We were the only ones there during our visit, so at first I was a little suspicious about the how good the food was. Fortunately, in this case, looks were deceiving. There were so few people probably because everyone was next door at the Dutch Market. Anyway, good food, good price and full belly: It’s a ‘yes’ from me.

Was really hopeful after reading all the reviews but food was not fresh. Chicken in the butter chicken tasted stale and microwaved. Found hair in another dish(although they did take it off the cheque) lamb was ok. Mango lassi wasn’t great like India Palace’s. Chicken tandoori was good but overall, unimpressed.

Spice Garden is owned by the former owner’s of the India Garden restaurant in Rockville. The new location is smaller but the food is still excellent and the owners continue to treat all of their customers like old friends. The menu items are a blend of Indian, Pakistani and Bangladeshi, reflecting the owner’s backgrounds and some of their favorite home cooking. Unlike some of the other reviews, I didn’t find the service to be slow at all-it took about the time I expected for a carefully prepared meal.

I have been here for the lunch buffet a couple of times and I am a huge fan. Everything was fresh and delicious. The owner really added to the experience, he made sure we had everything we needed and even brought us out special naan at the end of our meal… unreal. Would suggest everyone swings through and gives it a try.

It is a tiny restaurant and the way it’s set up I don’t like dinning in because it’s very cold every time someone opens the door. I can’t stop myself from eating their delicious chicken pakora’s. I just wish they had faster service. I’m rating them 5 star just because the food is really really good.

I’ve been naughty. This is a secret I’ve been keeping to my dear self for quite some time now… The Spice Grill is IT! The owner is always front and center, beautifully balancing his passion and his business. EVERY single time I go, he is there smiling and just full of love and happiness! They’ve been cooking longer than I’ve been alive and the food is SOAMAZING. SOFRESH. Always leaving you wanting more. I absolutely love the spicy curry chicken with the tender juicy and flavorful rice melody. It’s like heaven every single bite. The NAAN is cooked to perfection with a subtle savory, smoky, tender bliss. Come here. Seriously. Go NOW!

This place is a fantastic find! We had the Butter Chicken as well as the Lamb Korma and the flavor was spot on, as well as the spice level. The naan and paratha were cooked perfectly and the gulab jamun was warm, decadent and delicious! This is hands down the best Indian cuisine in the Germantown area.

Hands down the best place in the Germantown/Gaithersburg area for Indian food. My usual order is the Goan Fish Curry, very tasty and perfectly spiced. The Chicken Tikka is also fantastic. All around a great restaurant whether you’re doing take out or dining in.

Chicken biryani was dried out Owner I believe was not friendly and never asked to replenish my naan or water Dining area is small Overall: Feel India Palace in Germantown offers better value and tons of variety

Spice grill was a delicious find in the Germantown area. Located next to the Dutch market, it was fairly easy to find and easy to find parking. Let’s break it down: Appetizer: Naan Rating: **** This item was served fresh, fluffy, and flavorful. Paired well with the dish that I ordered and really wanted to order more after I was done. Entrée: Lamb Vindaloo Rating: **** Price: $$($ 11.99) The dish was very flavorful. Indian cuisine is known for the various combinations of spices and this dish did not disappoint. The heat level was not overwhelming, as others have stated, but I enjoy spicy food, so that is probably why. I appreciated the fact that the cubes of lamb were not over cooked and were boneless. The addition of potatoes added to the hearty feeling on a cold night. The salad was a salad, definitely could be used to cool your palette if the dish is too spicy. The biriyani rice was cooked properly and paired well with the saucy dish. Between the naan and rice, the only thing wished more of was more sauce, carbs be damned! The only complaint would be that there may have been a tad too much vinegar, as I tasted a little sour aftertaste. Ambience: Small and quiet Rating: *** A pretty small restaurant. Big TV playing some Indian dramas like Arpe and Bollywood. Service: N/A Rating: N/A It’s not really fair to give a rating when there were no other tables in the restaurant. However, I must say the owner was very friendly and was attentive. Also, explained they moved from rockville to the germantown area about a year ago. Overall: A Rating: **** If you’re looking for a quality and reasonably priced Indian restaurant, give spice grill a try. I know I will try again. This restaurant gives their competition a run for their money(Minerva, Curry place, India palace, and thayekari)

Spice Grill has been opened since October, and this little restaurant offers authentic Indian/Bengali cuisine. Owner, Mr. Peter, has owned several restaurants, and has opened Spice Grill to offer items such as samosas, pakora, tandoori charcoal bbqs, biryani, chicken/lamb/fish/vegetarian entrees, and desserts. The hubs and I were in the area, and we decided to try their lunch buffet option. I was able to sample their tandoori chicken(the meat was really juicy and tender, and extremely flavorful; I was surprised at the depth of the flavor of the meat, as it was just not on the exterior), lamb(a little gamey for me, but the hubs enjoyed this dish a lot, as it had nice chunks of tender meat); chicken biryani(the basmati rice was well-flavored with chunks of chicken); chicken kashmiri(creamy and nutty, with chunks of boneless chicken; great to dip the naan into for the sauce); chana masala(perfectly-cooked chick peas, I thought this was a little less thick as I would have liked; however, the flavor was really good); creamed spinach; and, fresh naan that is made-to-order. We even tried the garlic naan, which was pretty good, and one of the better ones I’ve tried at an Indian restaurant! While the buffet isn’t quite extensive, each dish was flavorful and unique in its taste, which we really appreciated — this was great, as it wasn’t a large variety of mediocre taste, but that each entrée was thoughtfully prepared. I wasn’t really a fan of their desserts, the gulab jamun and the rice pudding, but since I was so stuffed from the buffet, I didn’t mind! Mr. Peter was really nice and told us a little about the restaurant; I’d love to come back during their dinner to order from their menu, such as their fish and curry specialties. Check this little gem out: D +tandoori chicken +freshly-made naan +flavorful offerings +daily lunch buffet +ask for Mr. Peter: D

Delicious Indian Food. We never even knew this restaurant was here tucked away in Germantown Maryland next to Outback Steakhouse. The owner is very nice and welcomes you warmly into his restaurant. The food his wife is prepared by his wife daily The food taste like genuine home cooking, and I highly recommend that you try this place. The $ 34 family meal is pleanty of food for 2 people with a nice selection of several items and shouldn’t be missed. The owners are accommodating. Since I don’t eat lamb he willingly substituted Butter Chicken and I was very appreciative. You must try this place. Food is a little on the spicy side so if you like your food mild please ask for that in advance. Carpet, paint & tables look new, but the restaurant is otherwise no atmosphere. We hope the restaurant will go a little bit further with their decorating in the future. A mural painted on one wall & some color would be nice. –Just a suggestion. Thank you for a wonderful dinner.

Was thrilled to find this place. The owner is originally from my hometown — Bangladesh. Ask them to make you our famous Bangladeshi ‘Mughlai paratha,’ or ‘Bangladeshi-style biriyani(Wayyyyy better than spicy Indian biriyani — ours should be a creamy texture and the meat should be so tender it’d be falling off the bones. no spices other than nutmeg, mace, and some saffron — although of course Indo-Pak food is equally delicious!!)

THANKYOU to all the Unilocalers who encouraged me to finally try this place. I hope everyone does because it’s GREAT. I am Pakistani. I am hard to please when I’ve grown up with real, homemade Pakistani food. I’m also very accustomed to other Pakistani/Indian restaurants with poor service and terrible ambience. With that being said, I gave this place a try one day when my mom and I were searching for a good lunch place. We came here for the lunch buffet and left EXTREMELY happy. The restaurant itself is beautiful. The chairs, tables, silverware, floors, wall decorations — it’s a pretty place. Definitely makes dining more enjoyable. The lunch buffet was very yummy. I tried the chicken tikka, lamb gosht, rice, raita, and fresh cut veggies. The fresh naan brought to our table was like crack. I wanted to shove 100 of those naans in my purse for later. The hostess was great at always making sure to refill our water. The owner, Peter, even came out to greet us. He specially made an order of naan baked with pistachios and coconut and other yummy stuff for us. We were in heaven. We wanted to get seconds, but we were already so full. I made sure I tried dessert though. My mom tried the rice pudding, which she liked. I tried the gulab jamun and omg I went back for another and another and before I knew it, I’d eaten 5 of them. They’re much lighter than traditional gulab jamun I’ve had, but I loved them. They were almost like custard but still melted in my mouth. I wished my stomach was bigger. We got a box to-go for later… lol. $ 10 for the lunch buffet is a steal. I will definitely be back.

Spice Grill is AMAZING. I’ve been a frequent visitor since this location opened(I live down the street but would most definitely travel for this food). I’ve also gotten my mom addicted to their food! They have an awesome lunch buffet EVERY day of the week for only $ 9.99 all you can eat! It doesn’t get much better than that, if you ask me. I’ve mainly gone for the lunch buffet but have gotten carry out a few times. The lunch buffet consists of a variety of different options: tandoori chicken, curry chicken, butter chicken, goat(omg — amazing!), AMAZING basmati rice, spinach, veggies, rice pudding, and a bunch of other options that I’m forgetting. The times I’ve gotten carry out, I’ve gotten the goat. Naan is included in every order, buffet or not. OH– you can also get the buffet to go… how cool is that? I also get the Onion Kulcha every time– it’s a must! The owner, Peter, is fabulous. He’s a very active owner and makes sure that he says hello during your visit. The amazing food and the great hospitality makes for a killer combination! PS– the lunch buffet is every day from 12pm-3pm.

Yesterday, I happen to have an appt in Germantown, and as I was leaving, I thought I’d grab a bite for lunch. I decided to give this place a try. I went up to the counter and the owner came out and asked«for here or to go». I hesitated and he proceeded to encourage me that he had the best buffet and to give it a try, so I did. He told me all about the curry chicken and fresh cut veggies. I made a big plate. My favorites were the butter chicken, the curry chicken and, of course, the veggies. They really were fantastic! Everything was delicious and well made and the service was excellent.

I was so pleasantly surprised by this place. It opened up just a month ago and I was checking out their menu online. They moved from Rockville to Germantown. I was in the mood for some kabob and figured it was worth checking out. It’s located next to Mr. K and the Dutch market on Wisteria. Ample parking spots. We got there and while the décor isn’t fancy, it was neat and clean and casual enough. We were promptly seated. Browsing the menu we ordered the chicken pakora, a peshawari naan, chiken malai tikka and karahi gosht(lamb) — the latter two came with rice. This was for 3 people. The chicken pakora was fine enough, served with two chutneys. Think of it like chicken fingers but indian style. But the Chicken Malai Tikka was SO good. The karahi gosht was not overly spicy and more importantly not drowning in oil like a lot of other indian places. The rice/polao served with those dishes were excellent, and fluffy. And the peshawari naan was soft and delicious. Honestly I can’t rave about the food enough. And best of all our bill came out to $ 34, and we have leftovers. Customer service was excellent– We were offered mishti doi — which is sweet yogurt– on the house. Best of all, there are off menu items available at times, like mughlai parathas which you might need to ask about. And if you know what those are, you know you gotta have it. I plan on going back next week to check those out. If you’re in MoCo in Germantown, you *have* to try this place out. Your taste buds will thank you. Not a lot of people know about this place, but whilst we were there the few people who were also there are now regulars because they tried the place and fell in love with the food. Clearly all this place really needs is for people to show up just once, in order for people to be repeat customers.
