I’ve been coming to the Wagon Wheel on and off for years, and I second some of the minor criticisms other reviewers have leveled at it, particularly regarding how slow the service can be when the place is busy and the kitchen is in the weeds, and how the food can be a little inconsistent. Also, IMHO, some of the menu items seem a little pricey for what they are, at least for this area. But as others have also said, when the Wagon Wheel is good, it’s really good. And when the weather is nice, the kid– and dog-friendly outdoor eating area is a huge plus. Despite my small quibbles over inconsistencies and long waits, there is one dish at the Wagon Wheel that keeps me coming back again and again: the fish and chips. More specifically, it’s the fish that I crave: moist, tender haddock in a crisp, puffy tempura-style batter, popped fresh out of the fryer and delivered hot and steaming to my table. The sides(chips, slaw, bbq baked beans, tartar sauce) are all tasty enough, but fairly standard. But oh, that fish! For my money, it’s the best fish and chips in the area. If you decide to try it for yourself, plan to eat it on the premises, while it’s still fresh and hot and lovely. This is not a dish that travels well. I recommend visiting the restaurant at off-peak hours or on weeknights, when they’re less likely to be slammed. You’ll be much happier, and I imagine that the staff will be, too.

Fun stop on the way from here to there. Basic hotdog & hamburger join with lots of extras. Chicken Parmesan, salads, chili dog, lobster roll and more. Sodas, beer, wine, milkshakes. What else could you ask for. Everything is freshly cooked, so it’s not the fastest service but good.

We eat here once a week at least. The food is local and delicious. The staff is friendly and helpful. The owners are super nice. Also, Caroline added homemade ice cream to the restaurant. And it’s great. The front room has a collection of paint-by-number paintings on the wall. The main dining room exhibits retro clocks and state plates. It’s just the right amount of kitsch and great food to feel like home.

This spot is one of my favorites of all time. I love this place to death because it is a nice hidden spot out of the way, and everything tastes delicious, and the style of order and then sit down restaurant style is wonderful. The only knock that I have is the second time I was here, I ordered my food and then waited an hour until I found out that my order had not even been sent to the kitchen. That is a major knock, but I will hold off until eating before determining the results.

Tasty burgers. Good ice cream. Right off rt. 2, why wouldn’t you stop? A little pricy. But if you want a good burger it really is worth it. I recommend the cowboy burger: barbecue bacon burger w/onion rings on top. It’s super

Well this place is awesome. Great food and staff. They have the best muffins and scones fresh everyday thru the busy seasons. I was sadden when they closed for breakfast this fall on weekdays. Oh well something to look forward to in the spring!

This place is so good been going here for years. But it seems that over the last couple of months things have been going south since the food now takes FOREVER to arrive. The food for me was worth it but I didnt like that i had to wait so long. I decided to get the chilly which was tasty and the Cobb Salad which was more then I expected. I will always come here but just the timing with food needs to be better

can be great can be bad. No rhyme or reason. I continue to eat here due to its proximity to my parents just wish it was more consistent

I’ve passed this joint several times during my work travels and finally took the time to stop… and I’m glad I did! It was a late summer/early fall afternoon, perfect for eating outside, so I ordered from the outside window. Selected the grilled chicken sandwich, chips, and tea. Total came to just under $ 10…not bad. Chips are standard cod chips, tea was tea, but the sandwich was pretty stinkin good! Real good bun, fresh lettuce and tomato, avocado, and i think chipotle sauce… the chicken could have been bigger, but all in all… Dynomite! I’ll definitely stop again when passing through to see if other items match up to the chicken sandwich.

Really wanted to give it the highest grade but service was poor at best. It really took a unacceptable amount of time to get our food. Fried clams and fries takes zero time to prepare. There was a couple with 4 kids that waited almost a half an hour. I love the setting and menu is great. But none of that matters when your waiting so long you start to question if you even ordered. Staff has zero customer service skills. I only live ¼ mile from here so I’m not a traveler.

They have a nice big section that’s quite varies here. You can get a lot of different traditional burgers if you want, or a Mediterranean platter, various vegie-burgers, salads, etc. On a nice summer day, this is a convenient placeto stop on the way to or from the tourist destinations of Western Mass., with outdoor seating and ice cream.

Stopped in to get something quick during our trip to VT. We were crunched on time and figured ordering at a place that had a window would be quick. We ordered a BBQ pulled pork sandwich and a salad which took 35 minutes for our number to be called. I would have at least given this place a better rating had the food blown my mind but I could see the sandwich was basically pulled pork with BBQ drizzled over the top of it. The order should have taken 5 minutes to put together. I went inside to use the restroom and the place was empty so they weren’t slow due to being busy. Maybe they are just short staffed but for a first experience, it wasn’t a great one and next time I need something quick I’ll go across the bridge to Subway.

Its a roadside stop. Country feel and all, although the menu is so eclectic, its hippy-70’s and anything but country. Good food. Period. Nice service. Decent portions. Sit outside on a nice sunny day. Keep it green. And clean, and enjoy good food, meet new people and just take a moment to chill!

My boyfriend and I were traveling through town and were actually on our way to another restaurant when we spotted the wagon wheel. I squealed for joy because it was just so damn cute. I am a sucker for country style places with gardens and outdoor seating… This place had it. You order your food at the window and wait for your number to be called. It was delicious(I had a burger and he had the pulled pork sandwich which he raved about). Love the family, country feel. Inside looked adorable too! Definitely recommended and will come back!

I’m from Boston and one of my friend’s families has a house in Arlington, Vermont. So just about every season, we drive up there, and we always stop at Wagon Wheel on the way. And I’ve had a wonderful experience every single time!!! They have delcious food and a nice variety on the menu. They use some local produce including corn and basil(for yummy local pesto!). They also have amazing homemade ice cream and milkshakes :). Most recently, they’ve also started selling homemade Popsicles(with flavors including cucumber line mint and blueberry yogurt honey!). There is inside and outside seating sections. Outside there is cornhole and tetherball and a cute garden! And this is all on the side of French King Highway. I look forward to stopping here every time I head to Vermont!!!

After dinner in Turners Falls we decided that we wanted some homemade ice cream so we stopped in at the Wagon Wheel. This little country diner has an amazing amount of home cooked meal items as well as pretty great ice cream. The last time that we came here was for breakfast and we have to say that we were not disappointed! The staff here is always pleasant and the low key atmosphere is really great. During Christmas they have really great decorations which makes it festive for the holiday. Overall, this is a place to try out if you’re looking for some home cooked food.
