Positives: — Decent prices Negatives: — No dressing rooms. — Messy/Dusty appearance — Poorly managed — Some customers let their kids roam/run around the store unattended — The employees here lack customer service skills. Most of them unfortunately don’t speak English. the female employees walk around with bad attitudes or on their phones. They act like they don’t want to work or do their job… I was searching through the clothes with my 5 year old daughter and an employee rushed past her with a shopping cart almost running her over as if she didn’t see her, she didn’t even apologize for it. This didn’t happen just once, it was twice and I feel like she had done it purposely. Another incident happened on this particular day where I felt unwelcome. I asked an employee if she could get a shirt that was hanging on the wall for me and she gave me a dirty look and kept walking like I wasn’t talking to her. After that, I walked out of the store. Very disappointed with my visit. I’ve come here multiple times before but today was my worst experience. I don’t know if it’s just me but the store gives a bad vibe feeling as soon as you walk in. It feels dirty, wash hands after visiting! TIPTOMANAGEMENT: Hire staff that actually want to work and do their job. You’re basically paying them to be on their phones, ignore and be rude to customers while socializing. Put them to actual work and make them clean and put back items that don’t belong in the aisles!

I like the place it’s hugh and has potential. Quality items is what this store needs and it will be a hit easily. Staff is friendly and prices are fair and as I said«store is hugh». Parking is abundant, store needs a little cleaning but it’s so hugh you don’t notice the bad.

I wish I could like salvation army, but the past half a dozen+ times I’ve been in here(and one other location) I’ve found myself walking out pointlessly empty handed and irritated. I just need 4 wooden kitchen chairs in reasonable shape! Yet every time I get told«you gotta get the set, you gotta get the set». Sometimes the set means the chairs and table, half the time you can tell the chairs didn’t even come with the table, other times it means buying 6+ chairs, and I don’t need that many. Also, whether they’re in good shape or a little more on the meh side, the price is stupid high for a thrift store. They won’t budge(or rarely and barely) on their stance. I think I’m done with this place, at least for awhile. Goodwill is my friend, I’ll stick to there.

I bought a stereo receiver at this location that was white tagged half off, I asked the clerk working there if it worked, he replied ‘yes. When I got home, I plugged it in and nothing happens. I called them up and the manager told me there are no returns. She then went on to tell me I should have checked it prior to buying it. I know there is buyer beware, but there is also seller beware. Our household will now be buying from Goodwill right down the street which has a 10 day return period. I strongly recommend not buying from the Salvation Army because they won’t take returns even if they sell you something that doesn’t work.

Tis’ the season for ugly christmas sweaters! Ugly is the new fashion statement; word to the streets people, the thrift stores are in the know about it and now there are $ 40 friggin ugly sweaters… at the thrift store! They are out of their gourds. Besides this fact, I love the Salvation Army Family Store on North Ave and I’m surprised there isn’t more Unilocal activity on it. Positives: The store is massive and filled with everything you could ever want… and not want. From brand new True Religion jeans for $ 1.50 to toilet paper warmers, you can’t miss at this location. The clothes are fairly organized by type and color. There is a decent selection of shoes and a gargantuan baby clothes rack. Bedsheets, electronics, housewares, furniture, jewelry, purses, coats, hats, scarves… everything. The price is USUALLY right. Negatives: The staff is largely incapable of speaking English, the prices are not at all up for negotiation even when items are clearly mislabeled or you are holding a $ 40 dollar sweater with massive Santa Clauses and elves printed all over it, and the«background,» music is always um, interesting? For example, last I was here the theme music for Lord of the Rings was blasting. As a result, my adrenaline was pumping like crazy while I was in housewares; I wasn’t sure if I wanted to fight someone or buy the flour decanter I was holding. Like all thrift stores this place is pretty dirty so wash your hands after yo. Finally, there are no changing rooms which brings me to this tip: wear minimal and very tight clothing if you have come to shop for clothes because you’re going to have to try everything on over whatever you’re wearing. Happy Christmas!

Hmmm, I don’t know why his place doesn’t appear on Unilocal. I really like this location — it’s very large and well organized. I have seen brand new clothes from Target. with the tags still on. Several hundred pieces of clothing. The clothes are sorted well and the aisles are wide. The glassware section is smaller than at other locations but the space is taken up by a big furniture section. I think the prices are high for the furniture though. Definitely better than the downers grove location.
