A market that lives up to its name. They have quality fish and you can even eat in the Galley if you like. I’ve only been there to eat or order fish to take home. I’m kind of ashamed that I haven’t ordered any side dishes with the fish. The wait has never been very long when I’ve been, I’m not sure how busy it can get at its worst. Eating there is great. I would think it would feel like a rushed meal, being at a seafood market, but that’s not the case at all. They have plenty of sides that you can order and a mix of sauces to add to your meal too.

Looking at the pictures, I can tell you that farm raised fish is not sushi grade fish. ROFL…

What a wonderful local fish market! They have a large selection of fresh fish to take home, as well as a mini restaurant on the side where you can get prepared food. Eat it there or take it home! I love their clam chowder! The lobster bisque is also good, but the chowder is my go-to. It comes out SUPER hot which I love. The menu has lots of options, and there are even things for vegetarians like a vegetable quiche and the spinach puffs. I come for the poke bowls! Fresh fish with a seaweed salad over rice. Delicious. I pay a little extra for the himachi, and it’s worth every penny! Check them out either as a lunch spot or as your local fish market. Either way, you won’t be disappointed!

My family has been coming to fish king for years but it has been a while since we had been it is larger and nicer then I remeber it being and seems like they have really expanded their menu. My all time favorite dish remains the side of Fried yams. they are amazing. The sweet sauce is a must. This last time we had two orders one fresh and one they threw in for free just because I was starving which was not freshly made. The fresh batch was the best! The grilled Orange roughy plate with lemon butter sauce and steamed veggies was a nice and flakey fish. This is my favorite entrée dish. The Black cod which was a special of the day was moist and came with steamed veggies. It was delicious but the roughy is better in my opinion. Coleslaw is sweet but not too sweet. Lobster bisque– delicious– came out steaming hot but tasted a bit more buttery then I would prefer. The service wAs top notch. They are very honest when making recommendations– for the type of place it is service felt above and beyond.

This is my favorite lunch spot. I always order charbroiled fish with lemon and butter with white rice and steam vegetable as sides. They have all kinds of fish to choose and everything is so fresh and good but my favorites are red snapper and halibut. I also always ask if they have Mario’s special chimichurri sauce. It’s soooo good! You can choose french fries instead of rice and french fries are so crispy and tasty. What’s so amazing about this place is the price; lunch only costs $ 6 — $ 15 and you can get amazing fresh fish dishes. Once you know about this place, you could never order fish dishes at other restaurants!

There is a parking lot between this business and the banquet hall next door which is almost full. I read somewhere that this place has been here for years and years and years but if it has, then it must have undergone some sort of remodeling in the past decade because this business looks like it used to occupy two different units with the wall in between opened up. You come for the cooked food and might walk away with groceries and gift shop items that you never knew you needed. Well done whoever-does-your marketing. Price is not too bad: Around $ 40 for the following that fed three adults, 1 child and 1 toddler. Two prepackaged sushi rolls — so good. super large Lobster Bisque — very good, very warm, and feels so good in my tummy Clam Chowder — same here Spam Musubi — can’t go wrong with spam musubi… especially when it is super cheap Lobster Quiche — good but not too memorable for me Interesting bit: While we were eating on one of the indoor tables available, an intoxicated young male came out of the banquet hall next door and was having some sort of confrontation with another banquet hall patron. Some ladies got involved. Some older gentlemen are trying to calm everyone down. Mr. Intoxicated refused to be calmed down and pretty soon, a Glendale Police car showed up. Not too long after, 4 more squad cars arrived. Dinner and a show! What more could you ask for!

I absolutely LOVE the Fish King! If I lived in the neighborhood, I’d go at least once a week. However, I live in the West San Fernando Valley, and it is a 52 mile round trip, so my significant other and I don’t go as often as we would like. If you are looking for great, fresh fish, there is no place else in the Los Angeles area that I know of to get quality, fresh fish other than the Fish King! The selection is amazing. Not only fish, but shellfish too! You will pay for the excellent quality, but I don’t know any other place locally to find the selection of fish that you can get there. We love Hawaiian fish, and there are always several selections available when you stop by.(Sushi grade Ahi, Mahi Mahi, Opah, Ono, etc., to name a few.) In addition to the amazing fish, there are grocery items, especially harder to find Asian and specialty items. And, if you are from Hawai’i and are craving Zippy’s Chili, Kailua pork, Portuguese sausage, or lau lau… go to the Fish King! Their sauces… cocktail sauce and tartar sauce are delicious. And, believe it or not, their fresh chicken and the turkey pot pies are to die for! There is a galley deli with hot and cold items, so you just can’t go wrong, no matter your needs. And, a side note, my very favorite restaurant in the world gets their seafood from the Fish King, so the clientele is wide. My only slightly negative(and it is SLIGHT!) part of the review is about the poke. The Fish King has been voted best poke in LA, and most of the time, it is. But… there have been a few times when the Ahi pieces are not sushi quality, which is something I expect from the best poke I’ve had. I am not a fan of stringiness in raw fish. But, there’s no need to dink a star, because Fish King is the best! I love the service… everyone behind the counter is amazing, and the selection is the best!

5 stars for their poke selection and the hot food from the galley. I still think prices here are high, especially for their pre-made sushi but the food from the galley is pretty delicious. My favorite entrée is the grilled trout plate! Service is always friendly and efficient. tip: free fountain drink if you order an entrée from the galley and check-in on Unilocal

This review is for the clams. I bought 2 lbs of farm-raised Seattle butter clams yesterday. They were clean and delicious and every single one of them was alive. The store was busy on a late Tuesday afternoon, and everything looked delicious! Will definitely be back.

After several years of passing by Fish King on my way to my cousin’s house, we finally dropped by to check it out. I have been searching for a good fish and chips place similar to Race Street up in San Jose and I can say Fish King is a good compromise. Love the fact that they offer a pretty diverse menu and have tried both their lobster bisque and New England clam chowders which are both pretty tasty. The only thing that sucks is though you can purchase beer here, it cannot be consumed on their premises.

Fresh, fresh, fresh and great variety. After I came back from Hawaii and fell in love with tuna poke, this is the only place I’ll by it by the pint. Also, when the dungeness crab is in season, I love coming here and ordering them to go, cracked and cleaned for free! They also have a great selection of sushi grade fish, oysters, shrimp(cooked and raw) as well as poultry. The restaurant area is for ordering your fish grilled, deep fried etc, and when I crave fish and chips, this is my go to place. It’s very busy on the weekends at during lunch; you often have to pick a number and they call it out. I’ve waited as long as an hour(and about 60 people ahead of me) to take home some dungeness, but it was worth it. Parking is also a problem when it’s busy, since they only have a small lot and a short bit of street parking.

Has anyone ever noticed how salty their poke is? Someone’s poured wayyy too much soy sauce. I just want to taste the ocean… not the Dead Sea. SIGH.

Definitely an awesome find! People who work here are nice and very polite. We had a little bit of the octopus salad, tuna poke and ceviche and they were all super delicious. Display section of fresh seafood was super neat with description. They had live Dungeness crabs and lobsters as well. Price was average. They had the sushi and the Galley section for sit-down dining. And the selection of dips, sauces and spices was pretty impressive. Most of the poultry are free-range too! I got the fresh and crispy tostadas for my ceviche for 99 cents. Yep!

First of all when I use to work in Italian restaurant we would use Fish King as our seafood supplier. Everything is very fresh and great selection of all sorts of fish and shellfish. Now they have remodeled and offer sushi bar section. Place looks much better since then. I always order their grilled fish from them. My favorites are either wild salmon or Chilean sea bass. Sides are ok but my thing is seaweed salad. Prices are on the high side but I prefer quality over quantity especially if it’s seafood. Parking is good you can find spot in front of the store on glendale Ave or they have designated next door. BTW if you check in on Unilocal you get free drink!

Fish King is sort of an LA institution that attracts patrons from far and wide to eat their fresh seafood, either cooked at home or cooked by them. This place is both a take-out/sit down restaurant and a fish market. They carry a variety of fresh seafood as well as deli items such as potato salad and some of the best tapioca pudding available. In their restaurant section, entrees and sides can be cooked to order for a very reasonable price. They also have a nice sushi selection and their poke is tasty. The place is no frills, but the food is just plain good. They also offer daily specials, so ask. parking — small free lot

Great fish market and galley. I’m never disappointed. I asked them to boil up a live lobster for me, and what luck! They had a pot of eater on, and it was just about ready! I had them finish my 1.5 lb lobster on the fire grill. Oh boy was it sweet and tasty. I’ve been coming here off and on for decades. They also provide fish wholesale to local eateries.

Basically everything Cindy L. said in her review(lol!)… The Fish King has been around since we first came to LA, they were our fish monger when we were in Glendale. Japanese run, the place has been remodeled since we last hung around but I’ve also heard that people come for their poke which I do not remember buying in the past… They have their own parking lot but it’s sometimes hit or miss. I have to say the same about their poke. The ahi poke wasn’t ready when we arrived(early), the salmon poke was ok but not the best I’ve ever had, and I didn’t really care for the dynamite poke which is mayo based and has sriracha in it. We also tried some of the hot food like the Spicy Teriyaki Drummetts(sic) which were not spicy, and the Lobster Bisque which was thin and actually a disappointment. We bought a qt. sized container of rice to go with our two ½lb containers of poke and ate on location… I didn’t think too much about their poke but my rating is skewed up to reflect their relative distance from me compared to driving to one of the beach cities to get some which is ironic since the best poke I’ve had is from Las Vegas. The salmon I would give a 4, the dynamite a 3. I didn’t get any ahi poke so I would be interested in trying it but you need to come relatively early because they have run out on us…

I’m happy to find this place. I love poke but there’s not much in Pasadena area — I either have to drive to OC or Venice. Besides poke, they offer a variety of fried and fresh seafood. My review is based solely on poke. Salmon Poke — The seaweed, ginger, sauce complimented so well together. Fish was decently fresh but I’ve had better. Dynamite Poke — Tuna with some spice and mayo. The tuna did not taste too fresh. I tried asking for a poke bowl but they said they couldn’t make that for me. So I ordered rice on the side and just ate it with my poke.

Fresh seafood in Glendale is a bit of an anomaly, but Fish King is as good as it gets around these parts. Part fish market, part sushi station, part galley, Fish King is a solid option to satisfy your seafood needs. It was really busy when I went, which I took to be a good indicator of the quality of the fish. I got two types of poke(salmon and dynamite tuna), salmon sashimi, a spicy tuna roll to taste, a fried fish sandwich, and a dozen fried shrimp. I had to try a little bit of everything, didn’t I? The dynamite tuna poke was fresh and had good flavor– it’s spicier and creamier than the standard tuna poke. The salmon poke was good, if not a little too unctuous after a bit. It had good flavor and acidity though. The salmon provided in both the poke and a la carte was not of the BEST quality, but it was definitely above your standard mediocre sushi bar fare. The tuna in the spicy tuna roll was good, but the roll itself had too much rice. I think you’d be fine foregoing the sushi selections. The fried fish sandwich, on the other hand, was quite satisfying– the fish was light and flaky and there was just enough tartar sauce. The fried shrimp was kind of a throwaway order and I probably wouldn’t get it again– it was nothing out of the ordinary. Apparently, they aren’t currently stocking raw oysters due to a recent red tide, which could result in harmful health conditions. I appreciated the staff’s honesty about the matter and think the decision speaks to the integrity of the market. I’ll be back to sample some more of the selection soon.
