Divers Down

I absolutely love this place! The pepper jack triangles are to die for. I only wish they had more choices on the menu, and the service was a little more speedy. Other than that, Diver Down is a great place to eat.

This is a great place to eat and grab a drink along the Ohio River. The food is made to order, and the atmosphere is relaxing. Golconda is an unique location with some of the best scenery in southern Illinois. Divers Down makes the location even more enjoyable.

This was mine and my husband’s first visit to Golconda, on the way to and from Garden of the Gods, which we loved, by the way. First off, I am in love with this town. I’m a huge history buff, and I love that it’s so perfectly preserved. It’s also so quaint and has a great small-​town America feel. Second, my husband and I both scuba dive, so we felt very drawn to this restaurant. Upon walking in, we felt like we were in a diver’s heaven. The décor is eclectic, and of course in a diving theme, with fish and dive flags on the walls. We were greeted very promptly, and had drink orders in and to our table quickly. We both ordered the fish fillet dinner, I with a baked potato and he with fries, and both with coleslaw. We also ordered the pepper jack wedges for a starter. The pepper jack wedges, with the ranch dip? Oh my goodness, so good. When the dinners came out, we were shocked to see such huge fillets of catfish. We were further impressed upon our first bites; the batter was light and crispy, and the fish was so fresh and flaky. Best catfish I’ve ever had, and we live in Benton, KY, at the confluence of two busy rivers. The hush puppies, coleslaw, and potatoes were equally impressive. And their tartar sauce was to die for; I’ve never had a mustard-​based tartar sauce, and it went perfectly with the fish. Neither of us was able to finish, so we took our leftovers home, and will have enough for at least two more meals. We also ordered a piece of the peanut butter pie to go. I’ll tell you what, we just ate it, and I’m wishing we had gotten two slices, because I didn’t want to share, it was so good. So, to conclude, between the beautiful town and this terrific restaurant, we were very satisfied, and will definitely be back!

We came to Golconda for the shrimp festival. We stopped in to get a few drinks and the drinks were great! The staff was very friendly and patient with the customers. The locals were also friendly. The bathrooms were so clean! They smelled nice, had hairspray, nice soap, AND good toilet paper. We will be here for the rest of the night!

Waitress and good were great. Took and hour and a half for food though so make sure you have ample time. Great atmosphere.
