We had a good dinner on a Saturday but mostly comment on a special eau de vie dinner on a Sunday. This special event drew us 298 miles south. The event allowed us to meet eight regular customers of this excellent restaurant. Peter Dower has a remarkable restaurant. We enjoy his wine list and his entrees. Tonight we had a six course dinner which included four wines and eight or more(I forget) excellent eau de vies. If you are on the email list and hear about one of these dinners, come. The price seems high but it is well worth it. Small town businesses have many challenges. It is a great opportunity to be a customer of this great dining establishment.

I highly recommend Anna’s by the Sea and Peter the chef. Having passed through Brookings before and mostly eating on the 101 highway I decided to go drive one to two blocks north of 101 to dine. Wow Anna’s is a real treat. I ordered the Duck and a glass of the Pinot Noir and all I can say is it is the best duck that I have ever had the pleasure to eat. Cooked perfectly with savory spice that was not overpowering but subtle and delicate. I have never finished a dish of duck, yet, I finished this one. The wine was chosen by Peter and it went very well with my meal. Such a pleasure to find this small setting slightly away from the madding crowd and with a chef who is informal but very knowledgeable. Next time the home made cheese platter.

My daughter and I stopped in for dinner after a long day of driving. I had the cod, she had the chicken thighs. Both meals were perfectly prepared. The service and atmosphere was great — we’ll definitely stop by our next time through!

If you are anywhere on Hwy 101 in southern Oregon, do yourself a big favor and indulge in a decadent meal at Anna’s by the Sea! It’s a very small and cozy place with only 5 tables and a dining bar. The menu is limited to just a handful of select hand crafted entrees and all of the selections are beautifully assembled. I’ve eaten here a few times now and after a perfect rack of lamb, I was compelled to «Yelp» them. The chef/owner is a friendly guy who chats with the patrons as he works the kitchen. If you’re disappointed after eating here… the problem might be staring at you in the mirror

I always check Unilocal for restaurant reviews before we go on vacation. I wanted to eat at Anna’s By the Sea based on reviews and wanted to meet this chef who does not put up with diner b.s. Every chef wishes he/she could do the same… trust me. The duck was cooked to a perfect med rare and the side’s complimented it to perfection. Husband had the lamb meatloaf, mac n cheese and peas/corn. i have been with my husband for 18 years and he hated peas… but he ate Peter’s peas and wanted more. He loved the entire dish. The meat and cheese plate was very very good. We have eaten at very high end foofy restaurants all over… and Anna’s is right up there! While we were eating people came in. One guy asked for salt and pepper before he even tasted his entrée. the chef gave him the shakers he uses in the kitchen! HA! Another lady asked for a substitution on her black cod entrée… not sure how that turned out. The chef cooks each meal to order and he must prep some of it. We are looking forward to our next meal there. Thank you Chef Peter.

We had a wonderful dinner at Anna’s. This restaurant is small, but inviting. The menu is unique in the selection of items, in its detailed and useful descriptions, and in the overall fun tone. We started with cocktails, got the excellent charcuterie plate as a starter, enjoyed two outstanding main courses, and finished with a cognac.(There are no desserts, but several after-dinner drinks and a cheese plate to choose from.) The menu reflects the chef’s preferences and opinions, but based on our experience we would trust his recommendations. The chef may be quirky, but the best ones often are.

Anna’s is a delight in every way… the quaint setting and thoughtful cuisine make it a must for anyone passing through this town. I reccomend the Cod but will return to try the other tastey looking dishes. Everything is prepared right before your eyes in the open kitchen! So cool!

The food is nothing short of perfect. I have seen reviews where people complain about the chefs attitude but no one stops to think that if they criticize his cooking with no culinary expertise to back it up i would be insulted too. If he can cook that good let him have an attitude i say. Lol ur not there to make friends with chef ur there to enjoy food that he takes pride in cooking for US!

My wife and I had planned to eat at one of the«normal» highway 101 tourist restaurants but it was closed. I whipped out my phone and found that a place called Anna’s is rated number one. We decided to check it out. What we found was a truly amazing gourmet experience in the little town of Gold Beach. Having eaten all over the world in hundreds of restaurants(including numerous Michelin stars), I can honestly say that Peter, the wizard behind it all, has created a unique offering. We arrived early and were the first patrons in the door that day, a door that was held open by our host, who welcomed us as if we were coming into his home. Wow! We were seated and presented with a menu which offered unique dishes. We could tell that this promised to be different dinner. Our cocktails were perfecto. My wife ordered soup, salad and the cod/dumplings. I ordered the scallops. Each dish totally beyond delicious and we savored the flavors. I am rarely impressed by restaurants in America. This hidden gem is at the top of my list! Yes, it is true that he does not offer desserts but what I did was order the root beer float, knowing that Peter would surprise me. Sure enough, what I received was a first for me. Peter combines Haitian rum, Haagen Daz ice cream and Bundaberg root beer as the ingredients for his float. Hell, I never even heard of that Aussie brand of root beer. WOW!!! Peter is impish, fun and a hell of a cook! And yes, he opened the door for us on the way out. When was the last time you had the owner of a restaurant do that for you?

My husband and I visited Gold Beach. So I research this restaurant thinking I found a gem. Unfortunately my husband and I were treated very poorly while entering their establishment. We walked in and requested to see their menu. A man who seemed to be the owner sternly told us that the menus were outside by the door. He Continued to walk towards us and we turned around he pretty much pushed us out and closed the door behind us. He even placed his hand on my back to lead us out! We were stunned! That is not customer service. Not welcoming at all. We left of course and decided to take our money elsewhere. We have a question for the owner: what possible reason did they have to treat us like this? Horrible… PS: I see that the person handling the Unilocal account for this restaurant has been pretty rude to others who have complained. Everyone please take note of how they are handling all these reviews and how they respond to them. Speaks for itself!

Well my better half wanted 4 stars and I wanted two so we settled on three and she let me write this review. The 3-star rating comes only due to errors that shouldn’t be overlooked. But let’s start with the positives. We were greeted with friendliness and seated promptly. Well done. We started a couple glasses of Gewurtztraminer. Nice temp and delicious! Then onto the charcuterie/cheese sampler. Impressed with the homemade cheeses, not so much with the meats. Some dry, others under cured. It’s a challenging craft that perhaps the chef should practice more before selling to the public, or just simply order the product that someone else can make better and the result is a more satisfied customer. The two star vote comes as a result of forgetting water at the table, then serving it in plastic cups, and I know, it says so on the menu but I bet if the chef made his own chicken broth rather than filling his pantry space with Swansons canned chicken stock, perhaps he could find some room to stock water glasses so customers spending $ 30 a plate can feel like they are being pampered a little with a real glass and perhaps give 4 – 5 star reviews and speak well to others about the great experience they had at Anna’s. A few other missteps brought the rating down. The chef cleared our charcuterie plate and took our salad forks. We had ordered a salad but he didn’t make it and instead went straight to entrees so I guess we didn’t need those forks. Also a little truth in menu missteps. The black cod dish was quite delicious but the wife wasn’t informed it was a chicken stock base and I know it’s annoying with everyone’s unique diets and proclivities with food, but that is the servers or the menu writers obligation to divulge that. Also, the menu didn’t inform me just how much the chef enjoys putting truffle oil on his food. He was like a heavy pouring bartender with a solid three count of that stuff. Kind of turned me off in the end. Very one dimensional in flavor profile with a shortcut in technique. Forget about potential of this place. It is what it is, the chef is set in his ways and probably won’t change much if anything because people write opinions about him and his food and I can respect that. I would just not go back and it enforces my belief that there are only a few decent places to dine up and down the entire Oregon coast and this isn’t one of them, even though Anna’s counts itself among them.

Incredible find. Anna’s by the sea offers an intimate dining experience that reflects the labor of love that the staff puts into it. From the moment the chef opened the door to greet us, the wait staff absolutely doted over us. The food was fantastic and the service impeccable. My fiancé had the cod and I had the duck. Anna’s is a restaurant that doesn’t cater to the masses. Instead it focuses on creating a very special experience for its patrons. We’ll make it a regular stop whenever we’re in town.

We ate here for my birthday this past weekend. Wonderful place. It is small so if I’d recommend a reservation. Food is cooked to perfection and with attention to detail. I had cod which was really the best cod I’ve ever had. Glad I went for it! The house made cheese plate was fine, some of it really amazing. Deborah had the prawns and they were large and cooked perfectly. Our wine was a Syrah from Cotes du Rhone and quite good. I am not a fan in general of French wine as I believe they are bound by tradition and haven’t kept up with modern wine practices, but this one was a winner. I look forward to returning the next I go coastal. Doug

There is not much choice in Golds Beach and we were spoiled by eating in Portland. Anna’s is by far an awesome option. Everything is cooked to order, the chef Peter is friendly and will keep you entertained. We had the homemade cheese and chartureie plate. It was amazing. Where do you find homemade cheese? We also had the steak, which was great but needed a tad of salt. Overall a great experience.

Small place, great food, great service. Quality food at very reasonable prices. The cheese plate is exceptional, and cheeses are all made in house. Incredible euro wine list w/full bar, must try the rum root beer float for dessert. The cod w/dumplings are delish.

As you can tell, this is not a restaurant run by committee. My favorite films are by auteurs and my favorite records are often the product of a singular focus. Why not a restaurant? The charcuterie and cheese were outstanding. The wine pairing was perfect. I’ve never taste anything quite like the honey lemonade and the duck was perfectly moist. I don’t feel like wasting words on the food. It’s exceptional. If you’re used to coddling restaurant managers, this may not be the place for you. Successful chefs are rarely populists. That’s why their food tastes good. Anna’s food tastes good. Also: do not bring children here. It’s not that kind of place. Just a heads up for the families riding through the Beach.

Pros: great food, excellent wine choices, friendly atmosphere. Cons: hard to find, name on door is too small to see from road, numbers are small, also. Water served in plastic cups(?!)-strange at a place of this price range.

The charcuterie and cheese plate is probably one of the best things I have ever eaten in my life. Truly. My husband and I came here with our 2 kids and it was absolutely one of the best meals we have had in a long time, and certainly the best food in Gold Beach. We sat at the bar and found Peter to be both charming and entertaining. He was very polite and kind to our kids. It is obvious how much he loves food and cooking, and the experience really is like going into someones home to eat. If your children are wild and rude and you asked the host for food substitutions, you would likely never be invited back. I believe it is the same at Anna’s. Peter decides if he would like to have you back in his restaurant again. And why not? We can’t wait to go back.

My husband & I have been waiting a year to eat at Anna’s By the Sea in Gold Beach, Oregon. It was recommended to us last year by two men at a good restaurant in Bandon, Oregon having a plate of cheese at a wine bar. They said they will have wine & cheese at the restaurant in Bandon, but to eat, go to Anna’s 50 mi. south! So off we went to Anna’s, a year later. The cheese & charcuterie made a wonderful starter that we split, all handmade by Peter, owner & chef. Because we both love lamb we each had the baby rack of lamb which was accompanied by delicious crispy mashed potatoes & a side of veggies. The lamb was perfectly roasted & nearly melted in our mouths. Peter recommended a very good, but not too sweet Riesling paired w/the cheese plate/charcuterie, & a very dry Syrah for the lamb. Dinner ended too soon! Peter is quite a fun guy & expects his one waiter/assistant to tow the line. Very friendly place, great casual atmosphere, rich walnut floors, a wood wine bar for six(great place to watch the open kitchen), and tables w/a total of about 12 chairs. Because Anna’s is only open Wed-Sat, make a reservation. You won’t regret it, even after a year’s wait!
