Went here for a tap takeover this past weekend. Service was good but the featured flight was incredibly expensive. Beer selection is top notch and food was first rate.

Don’t waste our time at this location. Been twice and each time I had to send food back. Try the one in N. E

OK… WOW! I had driven by this place so many times and finally had the opportunity to give it a try. First off, they have a rotational beer selection which is fantastic! You don’t have to worry about being stuck with only the big national chains. Second, they cook the sausage after you order it. Their sausage menu alone, is semi overwhelming, but super awesome! It makes me want to go back and try them all. Ok, now lets chat about their pretzels… they are HUGE! Like you might need a large family to eat one alone(someone should tell the duggers!). We got the normal one and could not finish it as a team of 6. We somehow had dessert ordered for the team as well and got the bread pudding and a large pretzel. I am not quite sure where the caramel sauce came from, but make sure you get it… it is amazingly crave able on both items! I could probably sit down and eat just that sauce alone!

Always get the giant pretzel. Other than its carb city, the pretzels here are perfect. They are always warm when they get to your table and pair perfectly with any of their numerous tap beers. Only drawback: there is no seating option with a chair back. It’s fun to sit family style at any of their long tables with benches or at a bar stool, but sometimes it’s just nice to be able to lean back.

I had been wanting to try this restaurant out for about a year. I use the term restaurant loosely because it’s more of a fast food joint with beer. There are no servers, so anything you want you have to repeatedly get up and go to the bar. And here’s an example of why that doesn’t work. I ordered my food and went and sat down. The bartender brings it, but doesn’t bring the sauce I ordered with the fries… No napkins… And never came over to fill my water. Now, I paid for my meal before even sitting down, and added a 30% tip. And got horseshit service even still. The food, on the other hand, was very tasty. I had the jalapeño cheddar brat with a couple toppings and it was fantastic. The food gets a 5. The service a 1. Making my review a 3.

The reason for 5 stars is for the service, suggestions, food, beer, atmosphere etc etc… Try the beers suggested by the staff and ask for samples and I kid you not, you will not be disappointed. Ask for samples for any beer u see for every trip u make and they will give u info on the beer as well as the sample. I love their ever changing beer selection and I LOVEBEER.

Sorry, this review was started last July, but decide what you will. I was excited to try this newer location for New Bohemia considering my great experience at the NE location. Having read a week earlier what was on tap, I was downright jazzed. Yes, I realize that the beer kegs change often. That being said, I found just way too many ale beers. Not all of us dance to the beat of that hoppy showmanship. As with the NE Mpls location, I loved the brats and sausages, however I came for the beer. I’ll also add that the giant pretzel was tasty, just a bit overpriced. On the note of beers, the kegs change often. This is of course a good thing, unless latest tap list is already three days behind. Dates on the list would be very helpful. The bar tenders were seemingly confused with what they had available as well. Another sad issue, the blaring music. For those unfamiliar with the layout, the place is arranged for loud conversing due to the community style seating; just like a German beer hall. Knowing that, we still had to move outside just to hear our own voices due to the overbearing music. It’s a toss up right now. I may give then another go. Or, at the very least, trek down to the Mpls location.

I went for the macaroni and cheese«stuffed» sausage with caramelized onions. You order at the counter and then someone brings it to you and your number. I’m not a fan of the counter service set up in any restaurant that’s not fast food, especially if I’ve never been there before. Their menu is pretty long with a lot of unique options so standing there going over the menu with someone waiting at the register makes me feel uncomfortable and rushed. The dog itself was pretty good. It came to our table quickly, was cooked well, and the cooked onion topping was generous. It was really juicy and greasy so it soaked through the bun and the paper(it was served in a plastic basket with paper). These should be served on an actual plate to avoid that. For condiments, there’s a number of house-made mustards on the tables but they’re mostly very grainy if you’re into that. I’m don’t remember if there’s other stuff you can get it topped with because I just ordered quickly to get past that process. I liked the bench seating and they had a pretty extensive beer list including cider. It would be a good place to meet up. Unfortunately, I wasn’t a fan of the menu and ordering set-up so I won’t be drawn back by the food.

A totally unique dining experience… and it’s such a surprise that it’s located in a suburban strip mall… and in Golden Valley. not uptown… or not the North Loop! It’s a very casual place where you order at the register… and you are given a number .and a server brings out the food to you! The restaurant is FUN… it has the look and feel of a German Tap room. Wow and to think this used to be an old generic American pizza buffet! Awesome lunch specials for only $ 10… where you get a unique sausage with your choice of toppings, and unique sides AND a fancy drink… I had the fancy Joya soda which was delicious… need to come back on a off work day… like a Saturday… when I can enjoy a beer with my meal! Nice choice of unique sauces for the sausage which I understand is restaurant made! Definitely a fan… and can’t wait to return!

I’ve been to this location once for lunch and it was a solid experience. I was blown away by their giant keg refrigerator wall along the entrance, and really enjoyed theirpicnic-table setup like you might find in a German biergarten. From that, I can tell you its a social place, not somewhere you’d go for a quiet(or private) conversation. Don’t break up with you significant other here. I went with a couple of colleagues for lunch, and the place was pretty quiet. There was a trickle of people coming in pretty steadily, but there was plentry of room to sit and spread out. The food was great. I had a kielbasa with mushrooms and onions and and it was great — hot, tasty, and juicy. Their German potato salad was great, as well. Definitely a place I’d go back and try out some more adventurous sausages… Did I mention that they have some crazy ones like alligator, wild boar, yak, and duck? Smoked antelope? Yup. This is a great, casual place to check out if you’re hanging out with some friends on a lazy day and want to grab some good sausage and some beer.

The beer list can’t be beat. I love craft beers and this is the one place where I can always find a new beer to love. There was a sour one that I had a while back but can’t remember what it was. I really wish I did because it was amazing! Great place to go to if you love craft beer! Also, their brats are so good! I had the rattlesnake and rabbit one, perfect! PLUS! If you aren’t hungry you can always buy their brats to-go!

Stopped in for a late lunch around 2PM. Walked in and there was one behind the counter. Were looking at the menu when someone finally came over but did not greet us. I finally asked a question about the menu and quickly changed the screen from lunch to regular menu. Finally frustrated with understanding the menu I asked what he would recommend. He recommended the Duck Brat with Cilantro. Great choice, very happy with the brat. I also ordered a side of spinach salad also very good. We will go back again as there are other brats we want to try. This could have easily been a four or five star if we would have been greeted, asked if this was our first time and be give some guidance. The brat selection and beer selection are over whelming.

I was delighted when New Bo came to Golden Valley and still wish it the best. The beer menu is fantastic. The food menu is limited in scope but wide in variety. The exotic sausages I’ve ordered have all been decent, though I’d be hard-pressed to tell alligator from rattlesnake. The staff is friendly. So what’s not to like? This place can’t quite figure out what it is. And none of the versions are super appealing. Is it a reinvented beer hall with a wide range of choices for people who actually like beer? Sort of. But it’s also a sports bar playing too loud music with and Irish pub style trivia night. When I go out to have some beers I can’t find elsewhere, I want to have a conversation, not sit on a plank surrounded by sports shows with the Bee Gees in my ear at 100db. Please, guys, you’ve got a great beer list in a great bar desert. Nobody is driving across town for the rest of it. Be the beer and I’m there. I’m rooting for you.

Interesting selection of sausages and beers. We all enjoyed our selections(German, andouille, kiebasa, corn dog). Toppings are generous(include 2 free) plus a few varieties of craft sauces at the table. Kids liked the root beer. Confusing at first, it wasn’t clear if we were to order at the front counter and sit or could sit and order, employee said it was our choice. Turned out that you do need to order at the counter. It was so loud in there that we probably misheard. Unfortunately the level of noise detracted from our experience, and it wasn’t even busy.

My foot long brat was good, and appreciated that I could get it with peppers and spicy kraut. While the huge range of mustards was very cool, I think I’d rather just have my brat without all the sauce. A nice place, with a chill patio, and with the whole German beer hall feel to it. But the perennial sign that reads«free beer tomorrow,» I did not find funny.

I hate to down rate a place but I feel like I must. The food? Very good, very good. The sound level? Absolutely horrible, we were unable to sit inside while just the music was blaring, then the woman came on the mic to do trivia!!! We were sitting outside and it was still too loud. Owners? You have a very good thing going with the food, great sausages, fries, and hot dogs. Drop the sound level by a HUGEAMOUNT, or I will not be back. Drop by Prairie Dogs and Sausages at Lake and Lyndale and see what they are doing, and learn.

Picked up to-go lunch order for co-workers and I on a Friday. Amazing beer list-I have to go when I am not working! Brats were good– had a german, original, and a italian(tried a little of all 3) Fries were skin on, but sadly a bit limp and a small order for I think $ 5? Not quite the best value but quality is there. They have lots of crazy sausages/brats for you adventurous souls out there.

Having been to and loved the NE location, I was excited to try this one. The concept is great, and probably needed in this first ring burb… there are rows of taps and several selections of wursts for you to try. Garage doors add to a nice open feel. I couldn’t find an IPA that I liked so went with the one recommended as the top seller«Pride.» I was a little surprised there weren’t more local IPAs, there was a good diversity of selection but not great if you lock in on a particular type of beer like me. It was also hard to make a beer selection as the menu is on a screen which makes it easy to update, but hard to make a selection. I was upsold from the Italian to the Wild Boar, which I was told was like the Italian but with boar meat. The taste missed the mark, as did the sweet and spicy peppers I had added. The brat at the Farmer’s Market is better — which should be a red flag to the owners. Throw in $ 7.50 per beer and a $ 30 tab for two… and it underwhelmed despite the great intentions. I was also a little disappointed that this is counter service but on the bill — there it is a line for tips. They need to cut their beer prices and up the food to be successful

What is this sign I see while driving down Hwy 55! My favorite NE place, closer to home!!! They did a great job with this old pizza place. Lots of good open space, lots of natural light, with the same big sharing tables and attachment to the outdoors. They have big overhead doors that roll up for summer, when ever the hell it does get here. From what I can tell they have the same great food, great beer selection and good service as the NE location. Cant wait for summer to get here so I can be a regular while biking back from Mpls, perfect place for the last pit-stop! KT

We have not been to the other New Bohemia location, so I can’t compare the two. But the Golden Valley location was pretty nice. It’s kind of surprising to find tucked in the end of a strip center, but totally worth the stop. New Bohemia is modeled after a taproom, with big long tables and community style seating. I did like that there were a few smaller tables along the walls for couples of folks looking for more privacy, though I would imagine those are hard to snag during busy times. You order at the counter and they give you a number for your table. The tap list is impressive and I got the impression that it rotates pretty rapidly. I liked the selection of local beers too. Food-wise I really enjoyed it. I got a bratwurst with onions and mushrooms. Really quality sausage and a nice bun. Very tasty. We also went a little carb crazy. We got the cheesey fries, potato salad and the giant pretzel(more on this later). Cheesey fries were average. Potato salad was good — German style with a nice vinegary taste and bacon. However, the potatoes are big thick slices of potato. I think I might have preferred chunks. The giant pretzel on the menu is a little shocking — it’s $ 14. And you’re like, what pretzel is $ 14?!? But I tell you, it was a pretty good pretzel, and I would order it again. First it’s huge — like easily bigger than a really large dinner plate. Comes with two little cups of spicy, cheesey, creamy sauce, which is delicious. The pretzel itself is baked to order and is really both tasty and toothsome and everything you want from a really good soft pretzel. We split it between four of us, so it wasn’t quite as crazy. But really good and unique. So negatives: The service was kind of blah. It took a long time to even be acknowledged at the counter when we walked in. Then there was an unclear system… the guy behind the bar tried to jump in and said we could order with him, but by the time we had reviewed the menu and were ready to order, we were shuffled back to the counter since the guy behind the bar had become busy with another task. The food runner was great, checked back with us frequently. But there was definitely some confusion about which tables got which food. When I went to close my tab, more confusion about where I could go to do that. Overall though, pretty positive experience and the ultimate winner: good food and good beer. Sure we’ll be back.
