Hate to say this is the first time Unilocal has led me to a bad meal. I arrived around 7pm(restaurant supposed to be open until 8). I placed a carryout order and was told there would be a 15 – 20 minute. There were only 3 – 4 tables seated at the time. As others arrived to dine in, they were told they were closing early due to «having problems tonight». It ended up being closer to 30 minutes for my order to be ready with no mention of the delay or «problem» from the staff. I was hopeful it would be worth the wait. Unfortunately, it did not. I ordered the Tom Yum soup with shrimp and the chicken larb. Both were extremely salty. Especially the larb which was basically inedible unless diluted significantly with rice. Thankfully, I could pour some soup over the rice and was able to at least get a meal out of it. Maybe it was just an off night, but I will not go back the next time I am in town.

This place has great phở — but fair warning, they don’t serve with lemongrass or basil. Today I tried The Pad Thai and the Spicy Noodle — I was unimpressed as they both tasted similar and had very little flavor.

Don’t judge a book by its cover; don’t let the outside of this restaurant mislead you. On the inside, they’re not messing around. The staff members here were really nice and friendly. A feel-good joint kind of neighborhood. This place earned its five star with its quality food and awesome customer service. Best Thai/Laotian food I’ve ever had, hands down! Fried rice and sticky rice with mango def a must try. Gao Laow– the soup is flavorful. The meat is perfectly flavored. They give such a large portion that I’m never able to finish. Chicken wings– The breading is not thick or overpowering yet once you pass it’s flavorful seasoning, the meat is so tender and juicy. Simple yet satisfying! With a side of sticky rice of course. Papaya salad(Lao style) if you’re a fan of spicy food, you must try this. It has a great kick with such a great blend flavors. My mouth is watering just thinking about it. Lol!

It is a shame I lived in Grand Island for 6 years before trying this place. This Phở is delicious and as good as I’ve had it. The staff is super friendly and helpful. Skip all the new chain restaurants in town and try this place. There is definitely a great dish for anyone in your group.(even the stodgy meat and potato grandpa farmer who only likes Grandma’s and the local café food) There are some pictures on the menu with good descriptions of what’s in the dishes and the waitresses will help if you have any questions. Not a fancy exterior or interior but you are going for the food!

Great place for some Thai dishes. They are Thais from Hawaii. The Curry dishes are ok. At least they have sticky rice. They serve phở and it’s not as good as noodle house but this place has more selection. I recommend it since it’s the only other Thai place between here and Lincoln. The place is a bit hole in the wall. The larhb salad is pretty good could use some more spices on the meat. The drunken noodle is definitely hot enough but a little too sweet and the noodle is the proper wide rice noodle.

Not sure why Kembrough, person below, gave such a bad review. Must be a person that hates all food. This is a great place to eat. Lots to choose from. Everything I have tried has been great.

Excellent food, great service albeit on the slow side — took 30 mins for the food to come out, and it wasn’t particularly a crowded evening. I look forward to dining there again nevertheless!

The food was delicious. We were pleasantly surprised to find such good Thai food in Nebraska. We were just passing through, but hit them around dinner time on a Saturday. Boy, it got busy! Even though, the service was still fast. It was a little warm inside when we ate – I’m guessing they didn’t run their air conditioner. We had Rad Na & Spring Rolls and both were very yummy. You should definitely give this place a try.

My latest visit to this place was again an excellent trip and experience. The servers were very friendly even though they were very busy with a big party on the other side of the room. This also caused a slight delay in getting food to us but let me tell you that it was well worth the wait. I ordered the lharb, which has stirFried beef with fresh bean sprouts, onions, lettuce, cucumber, cilantro, mint in a spicy lime/fish sauce dressing(see picture). That dish was different then the usual pad thai or spicy flat noodle dish that I would order, but i absolutely loved the mix of bitter(cilantro)/salty/limey/minty/ spicy fish sauce flavor in the beef with that crunchy texture of the fresh bean sprouts. Just a wonderful dish. My coworkers also loved their spicy noodles and pad see mow(I think that is what they ordered) dishes as well. We’ll definitely go out of our way to try this place again.

If I had to choose my last meal on Earth, it would be their Shrimp Pad Thai. Their food is excellent, plus, the servers are extremely friendly and fast, and their owner/chef is awesome.

I love this place. They have the second best Thai food I’ve ever eaten(the best was in Sunnyvale, CA). I always get the red curry — makes the scalp sweat. Of my friends from church who like spicy food, this is one of our favorite restaurants.

Low quality, cheap food here. Spring rolls were so bad I had to spit them out. Good service. Bad food. Sorry folks, never again. How did this place get good reviews?

Was in the area on business and after reading the Unilocal reviews and the recommendation of a local friend, decided to make the trip the extra distance to try this place out. I dined solo at about 5 pm on a Saturday and expected to find such a well reviewed place to be busier, as there were only about 6 or 7 other patrons at the time. The staff was very pleasant and told me to seat myself. My server came to me within seconds of seating to request my drink order. Vientiane does not serve alcohol(I know, right?), so I settled for a Vietnamese iced coffee. I don’t recall if that’s what they call it on the menu or if it went by some other name, but it was delicious. Get it. My favorite Vietnamese place(Golden Saigon in Aurora, CO) has made me fall in love with spring rolls, so I had to order some here(chicken). If these weren’t so bad, they would otherwise be forgettable. A regular order come as three rolls, cut in half. Mine came stone-cold and very quickly, so I assume they were premade and refrigerated until ordered. I can only hope they were made fairly recently, although they didn’t taste like they had been. The chicken tasted as if it came from a can(though with as many chicken dishes as they offer I am hopeful that it did not). The rolls themselves were very bland. The rolls were served with a chili dipping sauce with peanuts, though there was no noticeable heat to the sauce. Many of the other reviewers recommend the spring rolls, so I imagine I just had a bad experience and it is not typical of this place. However, if I return, I will not be ordering these again, which is a shame. When I am new to a place, I always like to ask the server his or her favorite item on the menu. My server suggested the phở and stated she had just eaten some herself. While I normally would have heeded to her recommendation(and I absolutely love phở), I was in the mood for something more substantial and opted for her second recommendation: spicy noodles with shrimp. She stated it was one of the more popular menu items and I don’t doubt that it is. It is a wide noodle dish with a tasty sauce that has a good level of spice to it. I prefer super spicy, and was pleased the easily recognizable rooster sauce was available. My dish came with a dozen or so shrimp, which were cooked quite nicely. I was hoping some vegetables were included, but the dish was devoid of them. This was my fault for not inquiring or reading the menu better before ordering, so if that’s what you’re looking for I’d avoid this dish. Overall, though, this was a good dish and something I’d recommend. My server was great. Very friendly and polite, helpful in her recommendations and checked on me several times. She was very pleasant to talk with. If I’m ever in GI again I may come back, but I’m not sure I’ll be going out of my way to dine here again. You could certainly do a whole lot worse than this place, though.

Love this place! As a flamehead, I love the level of spice I can get in the dishes I order. I especially love the Red Curry. They also have a Vientiane grocery store /market nearby where I pick up some hard-to-find things for my own kitchen.

5+ stars. Places like this are the reason I love Unilocal!I would never have gone here if it had not got such good reviews on Unilocal. It’s not appealing at all from the outside. I debated skipping it but I am SOGLAD I didn’t pass on this gem. The spring rolls are a must, and also the Chicken Phở. I didn’t know how to prepare it, and the waitress was extremely nice and offered up all her best tips, a little bit of this, little bit of that. Then I had the Mango Sticky Rice dessert to-go, which is really good as well.

As a frequent traveller to places where«Asian food» may not be the first thing that comes to mind, I always make it a point to visit an Asian restaurant to check it out the Asian food scene. Stopped here and tried the beef phở. It could have been phở in any San Francisco restaurant, so for keeping it real in the middle of Nebraska, a FIVE it is. The décor was not fancy and it was a little warm, but it felt a lot like many of the family-run, diner-esque places that I love. The service was really good with the server striking up a friendly conversation and inviting me back again during my stay.

I visited Vientiane during a working visit to Grand Island after finding it on Unilocal. So glad that we visited! We arrived right before the lunch rush around noon and got seated right away. Service was a little slow but our food did come out fairly quickly once we ordered. This was not a fancy restaurant but the food more than makes up for it. I ordered the daily special which included pad thai with chicken, 2 spring rolls with chicken and a drink for something like $ 8 or so. My colleague ordered Thai fried rice and some green curry. The spring rolls were surprisingly the best I have ever had! Not only were they fresh, they came with a wonderful lite, spicy dipping sauce. We visit Grand Island a few times a month and I know that we will be back! My colleague even mentioned that she would be willing to drive the 90 minutes from Lincoln to eat there again! I would definitely recommend Vientiane to anyone in or visiting Grand Island.
