The biscuits & gravy(a Sunday brunch item) was TERRIBLE. The biscuits were hard as rocks and the gravy was nowhere near edible. I’ve been here a few times, but I’ve yet to be impressed with the food. The service is great, thus saving the second star rating. I’m not one for sweet breakfast, and those seemed to be the only items anyone from my party had anything good to say about. The food is presented well, but that can’t make up for the lackluster taste. For the high price, you’re much better off going elsewhere.

Locale: Here in South Bend’s «Sodosopa» you can find this quaint little café next to oldish looking brand new barn doors with a false patina reminiscent of a Southern California suburb that tries to recapture the images and feeling of its 19th century pioneers. Décor: The Cthulhu lamp was displeased with the lack of any version of a Benedict on the menu, as was I. Menu: While there may not have been a Benedict in the brunch menu, I was impressed with the wine/scotch/whiskey selections. Food: NaCl was noticeably absent from my omelette and my partner’s veggie croissant. Now, I’m not a chef, but I would highly recommend reading«Salted: A Manifesto on the World’s Most Essential Mineral, with Recipes» by Mark Bitterman. Service: If you drove here to have brunch with your in-laws in a Lexus LX-470, and then made ever more inappropriate leers and gestures toward the wait-staff after each bloody-mary, and only tipped 20% — you are what’s wrong with America. Summary: If you enjoy a middle class dining experience here in the rust belt, or if an appearance of rustic charm appeals to your bearded taste buds, or if you’re bored and hungover like we were, please visit this establishment. Or stay at home and make your own damn omelette and save yourself $ 12.

I used to live near this place when it first opened and watched it evolve. This place had the smarts and the knack to always keep it simple and nail it on whatever they made. I went back 2 weeks ago, and this was my first trip since they have relocated, and all I have to say is wow. Still a simple menu, and every single thing on it I am sure would have been amazing. I had a burger and sweet potato fries, my Date had the chicken sandwich and green bean fries(i had told her that when I used to eat there the chicken was always really tender and juicy, and this time was no exception) everything we had was cooked perfect, presented perfect and the service was great, as I had always remembered. with the Green bean fries came a chipotle mayo-ish type sauce and it was amazing as well, our server boxed up what we had left of that as well… and topped the sauce off for us too! they had a pretty good beer selection and wine selection. I am pretty good with my money and feel that for the quality and atmosphere this place is more than reasonable…2 meals, 2 drinks, out the door with tip around 50 bucks. there are cheaper places… and way more expensive, this place falls right above the middle and earns every dollar you give them with all they do. So glad i made the trip back to Granger to try this place out again. I will definitely be back!

I did not write a review after my first visit to Uptown Kitchen. I was not happy with the food or service but decided to try it again. They offer a great brunch on the weekend so we tried brunch on Sunday morning. They were pretty busy but I made a reservation so we were seated right away. They offer a $ 5 Bloody Mary or Mimosa on their brunch menu. I highly recommend either one… perfect pairing to a weekend brunch! I ordered the Huevos Rancheros and it was topped with scrambled eggs. This entrée had chorizo, black beans, salsa, sour cream on top of two corn tortillas. This entrée was prepared perfectly and was almost large enough for two people. We enjoyed this meal on their large patio but they do have a large dining area inside. The service was ok but nothing special. Overall– great food and convenient location if you’re in the South Bend/Granger area. I am sure I will be back soon.
