Although we are long-time Hawks fans, it pains me to report that it just isn’t what it once was. Over the last few years, we probably went monthly. We frequently had the tasting menu, and, while it is pricey, we always felt that it was worth it. The service was stellar, the staff was warm and welcoming, and the food was superb. However after disappointing visits this past December, then again in January and now June, I’ve determined that our love affair with Hawk’s is offcially over. All three meals were disappointing for one reason or another — either poor service or poor food. Perhaps if I hadn’t been to Hawks previously, I would think the current state of the restaurant was fabulous… but it certainly isn’t the same. I was hoping that the restaurant had temporarily lost its footing after opening their new downtown location, however after three less than great experiences, I’ve determined the down hill slide isn’t letting up. It is still a fine restaurant, but it no longer lives up to the hype — or prices. So sad to say so long to our local favorite.

Proud to have this restaurant in my hometown! Very Napa type of restaurant. Definitely should be Michelin starred. Amazing food. Very delicious and gorgeous drinks. Presentation is. And service is top of the line.

Very tasty and elegant! A bit pricey for every day, but certainly a place to go when you have the excuse of a special occasion. Wonderful service, too.

I went to Hawks for dinner last night with some friends. I had the pear salad, mushroom soup and Salmon. Outstanding meal. It was my third visit and the service and food is wonderful. Happy to have this place so close so we can come again.

Very disappointing. Our waiter was indifferent and aloof. Slow to take drink orders, slow to bring them once ordered. We had to ask him to repeat himself several times, he kind of mumbled and just had no personality. The«water boy» couldn’t seem to process the fact that we preferred our water with no ice. .. . My 86 year old father ordered a drink he didn’t think was made well, and told the waiter. Rather than do the right thing and offer to bring him something different, he basically defended how it was made — basically, that’s how WE make it, too bad for you.(To his credit, the manager did coincidentally come around near the end of the meal, and we told him as well. His reaction was mixed — but they finally did come the drink.) Of our 4 meals, one was excellent(opah,) two were OK, the 4th, halibut, was dry and disappointing. Let’s face it, when you pay over $ 200 for dinner and a drink each for 4, you should expect and get excellence. Having had a disappointing dining experience the last time we were there, which we attributed to it being the holiday season, we thought we’d try again. We won’t be back.

A friend and I went here last night for dinner. We read the Unilocal reviews and we’re game to try somewhere new. Made a reservation for 830, restaurant was packed. Great ambiance. We were seated promptly. It does feel like a place where you want to dress nicer to receive the best kind of service. We tried the ahi and the gnocchi as starters, amazing! Moved onto the burger and the New York steak. My friend said it was one of the BEST burgers he has ever had, continued to rave about it all night! My steak, medium rare, was absolutely amazing! Honestly, amazing is an understatement. I’m such a foodie and I was impressed! Our server was professional, attentive, anticipated all our needs. I believe his name was rob, he really made our entire experience. Dane was helpful as well. Rob even went out of his way to bring my friend a dessert for her birthday. It was 5 Out of 5 food and service. Exceeded our expectations.

My best friend and I went here for lunch today. It was great! All the food was awesome! The cheese and honey was really good. Lather some honey on that cheese and it changes ur taste buds to another level. Everything we had was great. The atmosphere was nice, comfortable and easy going.

This is a review on Happy Hour at Hawks. Fresh Pea, Burchetta with Ricotta Cheese, Tempura Asparagus; Caesar Salad and sharing the burger & fries all made for a very enjoyable dinner at Hawks during Happy Hour on a recent visit. Wines by the glass at $ 6 are reasonable but there is limited selection during HH. I would go for the red blend if you are into reds. There is an extensive wine list too if you want to try something else. With about 6 – 8 seats at the bar and 4 – 5 small tables– this is a small area — so you will need to come early if you want to sit. Overall experience and service was excellent. I would come back for HH as well as dinner. Wish there were more restaurants of this quality in the area!

If I could erase the first 5 minutes of our visit, this would probably be one of the best reviews I’ve ever written… however. One of the cardinal sins in a restaurant is to leave guests in the lobby when you have an empty dining room(to Hawk’s credit, we arrived an hour ahead of our reservations). I felt no need to update our reservation(we were five minutes away) when checking Open Table revealed tables available for all slots within the upcoming hours. When we arrived just after they opened, we were asked to wait for a table while they waited for their reservations to be seated. The explanation was that they schedule their staffing based on reservations. While this is true to some degree in a restaurant, it is an absurd statement to make at 11:30 in the morning. The more appropriate thing to do would be to seat us with an explanation at the table that the server may be a few moments. Enough said! The food here is thoughtful, well-composed, and some of the best I’ve ever had. The service is professional, knowledgable, and accommodating. While we had other dishes, the tagliatelle with rabbit, peas, and preserved lemon is one of the best dishes I have eaten in quite a while. Everything on the plate was superbly executed and contributed to making it a beautifully composed dish. The rabbit melted in your mouth while the firm tagliatelle absorbed the delicate lemon kissed sauce. It was exquisite. This is a bit out of my way and will have to become a destination restaurant for me, but man am I looking forward to dinner here!

I was going to have dinner here with one of my better established clients, as this is a pretty nice place. You’ll probably wanna dress on the nicer side as your experience will be better as most likely will the service. It’s one of those kinda places. My client call me at the last minute and can’t make it. I’m on my way here already and have reservations, so what the hell, I’ll go by myself. On Sunday’s Hawk’s offers a nice«Sunday Supper» fixed menu for $ 45.00 each. Service is very cordial and I start with a cocktail called a Strawberry Rose’ made with a house strawberry infused vodka($ 13). It was actually very nice in a strawberry kinda way. A good change from my regular Cosmo. The menu this evening started with nice Asparagus salad accompanied with cucumbers and olives. The second course was a pureed Potato Leek Soup garnished with croutons. My salad was very nice, though not really a fan of asparagus in salad. The soup on the other hand was divine in it’s smooth creaminess. I wasn’t a fan of pureed soups much before till I had a Russian borscht pureed and that was to die for. The soup tonight of Potato Leek was great made this way… so smooth! Another cocktail and I’m on to the main course. The main course was an Alaskan Halibut, pan roasted served with Italian butter beans and charred onion. The fish was cooked perfect and served hot. I’m surprised there wasn’t a beef choice or the fish, but fish was fine with me. Through out my meal, service was perfect and professional, no bubbly bouncy girl up selling here. For dessert I was served, a cherry and hazelnut bread pudding. Interesting flavors and not too sweet, it was a nice finish to the meal. I thought the price of $ 45 was reasonable for what was served and the over ambiance and service of Hawk’s. I’m glad I stayed and enjoyed. Give Sunday Supper a try! The rest of the regular menu looks very nice as well, I’ll have to come back with my BF! Lunch is available too if you don’t want to commit to dinner.

This place was absolutely stellar! I went here for an early dinner with a friend of mine recently and was extremely impressed with everything about this place. We came in with no reservations and was told the wait time for the dining room would be 10 minutes. The friendly hostess also gave us the option of being seated right away at the bar. Hawks didn’t just provide your typical bar area, but there were actual tables nearby the bar as well; it just wasn’t considered part of the dining room. They definitely still looked nice and inviting, nonetheless! Still, we chose to wait for the actual dining room. The hostess went outside of the restaurant to where we were sitting to inform us that our table was ready. We were seated promptly and were handed our menus while our waiter asked about drinks. They offer lavender lemonade, so the choice was obvious for me. I also noticed right away that there wasn’t a crazy list of things on the menu. To me, that’s a very good thing. It is not overwhelming to look through, but it also meant that I’d expect every dish to be spectacular. After debating between a few extremely delicious-sounding choices, I decided on the pan roasted chicken, and my friend went with the Wagyu burger. They were very thorough on his order, asking him series of questions like how he’d like it cook(medium-well), informed him about different options he may add onto the burger(he chose sauteed mushrooms), and condiment choices to bring out. We were even informed about the estimated cook time for our meal(25 minutes). At this point, water was present, my lemonade has already arrived, and there were complimentary bread and butter on our table. My lavender lemonade was very unique and refreshing. You can definitely taste the lavender flower, There were even bits of it floating in the water. It is more on the tart side however, and the carbonation caught me by surprise. It’s like drinking flavor enhanced club soda… I’d probably still try it again though. And then we have the main courses! Arrived in the timely manner that was told. There’s a good reason for there being no photo uploads. We were both so enticed by the delicious aroma on our plate that we couldn’t wait a second longer to dig in! That’s saying a lot. I mean, you know it’s serious business when you don’t see a little Asian girl snapping photos of her food. Food quality? We were not at all let down! My friend and I did splitzies so I had the pleasure of trying both entrees. My pan roasted chicken was very good. It was an extremely balancing dish along with the potatoes and prosciutto. The potatoes weren’t seasoned, but that may be because there were already plenty of salt from the prosciutto. Everything on the dish complimented one another quite well. According to the menu, this dish supposedly had aged cheddar in it as well, but to be honest, that’s the one thing I really couldn’t detect from this dish. I wish that it did have a more prominent taste because I loooove me some cheeeeeese. Now let’s talk about the burger. I’ll be damned, if this isn’t one of the best burger I have ever eaten… Like…Oh mah gawd. I’m pretty sure I was making inappropriate noises while eating this deliciousness. I don’t see how anyone can eat this with a straight face. I know I had a fatass smile on mine. The Wagyu patty was cooked just right. Even for a medium-well, it remained extremely juicy. Everything was seasoned to perfection. I typically hate mushrooms, but I did not pick off a single one. There was a subtle buttery taste to it all. And along with cheese, I also loooove me some buttaaaaa. This was SOGOOD to the point where I genuinely felt bad for my friend for sharing half with me. I’m sure he regretted this decision immediately after his first bite. That’s too bad but lucky me! I couldn’t have been more satisfied. They did not forget a single thing we requested. Our waiter was extremely thorough with us. There was the perfect amount of attentiveness as we ate our meal. The ambiance of the place was wonderful. And this next thing is random, but even their damn check holder was elegant(and I’m not crazy about paying!). I was initially a bit nervous at first, thinking that we were about to get stared at up and down before getting neglected the whole night. This is a nice place, and let’s just say that we were both dressed very casual. I mean, I just got done eating ice-cream a few doors down. Let’s just be glad I didn’t walk in with a gigantic chocolate stain on my top. Regardless of our appearance this day, we still received incredible service from beginning to end. Usually, I don’t give five star reviews to places I’ve only been to once. But why the hell not? I loved it here and hope to visit them again soon!

We had Valentine’s Day dinner at Hawk’s, and were underwhelmed. Out of 6 courses, 2 were good, 2 were okay, and 2 were not. Overall the food was uninspired and definitely not worth the price we paid. We’ve heard you shouldn’t judge a restaurant by their Valentine’s Day service, but there’s two reasons why we’re rating them poorly regardless.1) This was our first and only experience with the establishment, and first impressions count. 2) we’re here to tell you: don’t go here on Valentine’s. Can’t say if their average service and food quality is better, but it won’t matter since we won’t be returning. Ironic since we recently patronized their new midtown Sacramento venture(Hawks Public House) and found it to be fantastic. In addition to the lackluster food, it was the weirdest left-overs experience ever. They don’t bring them back to your table but rather have the left-overs waiting for you at the host stand. That’s a little awkward, but what is worse is that we arrived home to find someone else’s left-overs in our bag(which was labeled with our name, so not a case of handing us the wrong bag). Expected much more in every way.

Went here with three girlfriends for my birthday. I loved the cocktails on their menu, so tasty! I ordered the duck for dinner and it was some of the best I’ve had, this coming from a person who raises her own ducks. The begnets for dessert was a lovely ending to an enjoyable meal. I hope to come back soon.

I really enjoyed the food. Just a tad too expensive. The waiters were great but if you came for a whole bunch of food you came to the wrong place. Its like having small appetizers for 5 course meal. although there $ 3 home beer was excellent. we also had the wine pairing which was $ 40 more a person

Located in Granite Bay, a few of my friends recommended Hawks as a quaint and low key restaurant with good food for special occasions. Since we live in Folsom, the drive was not bad at all, approximately 15 – 20 minutes. Plenty of parking and reservations are encouraged. My husband and I were here last night for dinner and Malia was our server. She was excellant. We had the Sunday Supper menu which included four dishes. The first dish was the Escarole Salad which consisted of shaved fennel, pangrattato and ricotta salata with olive vinaigrette. The salad was delicious, simple and flavorful. The second dish was the purée of nantes carrot soup. It had shaved heirloom baby carrots and parmesan crema on top. Another great dish with lots of flavor and well displayed. A definite favorite. The third dish(entrée) was the mixed grill. This included garlic fennel sausage, spare ribs with braised artichokes, white beans and grilled lemon on the side. Great portions, soft and moist ribs, extremely filling! The beans were a plus as well! Finally, for dessert we had the lemon meringue pie(with santa teresa lemon curd and toasted meringue). The pie was a little hard to eat(the shell was hard) but overall a sweet ending to a glorious meal. The staff were attentive, friendly and personable. The food was amazing and I would definitely recommend this place to friends and family. The server knew her wine and we even got 25% off our half bottle. Cheers to another wonderful discovery! Thank you Hawks!
