Arca Sandra, MD

Dr. Arca is a great pediatrician. She has three kids of her own so there is very little she hasn’t seen or experienced on a personal level. Given that and her professional experience, she seems to know everything. Our child has had a couple of fairly rare health issues and Dr. Arca is very knowledgeable about them. She has always diagnosed her correctly and is very quick to respond when we need her. Her nurse Misty is also very knowledgeable and returns calls in a very timely manner. Dr. Arca is easy to get into see when your child is sick and is willing to work with your schedule. She is matter of fact in her responses and does a great job of explaining your child’s condition. I think some people misconstrue to the point diagnosis as bad bedside manner but she is very personable, just not as chatty as some people might like. I will take a doctor who is knowledgeable and takes excellent care of my kiddos over a garrulous doctor any day!

As older first time parents of a new born we did our research. We interviewed Dr. Arca in advance, had heard amazing things about Cook Childrens, and she is the doctor of our OBGYN and her office is 2 minutes from our house. We thought ‘no brainer’. Wow, we were wrong.
What I don’t want to write is a novel (but if you have questions, I’ll happily answer them) — but there were SEVERAL things that we were extremely unhappy with (all around her lack of ‘bedside manner’ and her inability to communicate with us). To the point that we had to find a different doctor. But we still stayed within the Cook Children’s network (and the transfer within the network was easy).
She might be an amazing doctor. But she was incredibly hard to talk with and was down right rude when communicating with Baylor Medical (the hospital where our child was born). We have also filed an official complaint with Cook Children’s.
If she is your doctor and you love her — then we wish you the best and we’re glad you are happy. If you are considering Dr. Arca to be your doctor — please seriously sit down one-​on-​one and make sure that this is a person you want to communicate with about your child.

We love Dr. Arca! She’s been our daughter’s pediatrician since day 1 and I’m so glad we picked her. The affiliation with Cook Children’s is helpful too especially when your child gets sick overnight — you have a nurse you can speak with. Easy to get an appointment as well.
