Taft Farms charmed us with its rustic and old-fashioned appearance. After wandering among rows of fresh fruits and vegetables, we decided on sandwiches for lunch. I ordered a turkey and Swiss cheese sandwich from a woman at the counter. Her no-nonsense attitude got the food out relatively fast. The turkey did not have the sweaty, frozen-food aisle taste. On the contrary, it was fresher than most turkey I’ve tasted in months. The cheese accompanying the turkey was good on its own, but I found that the cheese and turkey tended to be in separate lumps, not combined. However, the ingredients were fresh and went well with some salty chips and apple juice. We finished off the lunch with a fruity popsicle, though the outside was slightly gelatinous. I recommend Taft Farms to any sensible snacker in search for a place to munch on sandwiches, chips, doughnuts, pies, and more.

We LOVE Taft Farms. Everything here is fresh and delicious. The family and employees are great. Paul, from Charter the Berkshires, also has a great little tackle shop here with everything that you need, including bait — shiners in all sizes, night crawlers, grubs and more. Stop by and check it out.

The blueberry pie makes this a five-star review! I’d give it ten stars if I could. Just buy the pie. Eat it while it’s still warm. It was unearthly good! I could go on and on about the pie, but I’m going to move on. When we pulled into the parking lot, it was already rather busy. On our way in, we passed a large cage with some baby ducklings that had been born in the last week. How adorable! Next to them, was a huge box of corn, for 50 cents an ear. This was a fantastic place to stock up on some provisions for a cookout. There were a variety of different fruits and vegetables, most grown on premises. In addition the produce, there are local brands of cheese, ice cream, maple syrup, and coffee(among other things). You could seriously do some damage in this place. So, it’s probably best to come in on a full stomach, otherwise the bakery could make for a calorie-filled, but delightful, visit. We picked up a bunch of veggies and the aforementioned blueberry pie for just under $ 40. All the veggies were super fresh and grilled beautifully. The corn tasted like summer. Totally worth a visit.

I second the Patty C,‘s review! Love Taft Farms! What an asset to the community, as well as a wonderful resource for fresh produce they grow themselves. I get all my plant starters from them in the summer, and homegrown blueberries, raspberries, and corn among others. A family business, with everything thoughtfully grown and prepared.

A gem of a place. I wouldn’t call Taft just a farm stand, but really a little bit of everything in the middle of nowhere. Situated part way between Great Barrington and Stockbridge they are sort of an oasis in the desert — just past the Village of Hoosatonic. They are in my estimation equal parts farm stand(not a huge selection — but I did say farm«stand»), part store, part bakery, part garden center and part café. They have a really good selection of local and interesting cheeses and other grocery type products(honey, pre-baked foods, dairy products), an ice cream counter(with the cheapest ice cream prices I’ve seen in the Berkshires), a sandwich counter and loads of fresh baked bread, muffins, cookies, scones(try the apricot), etc. I’ve had lunch here, bought local produce, picked up a few grocery items even had ice cream. It’s a good deal and a nice place to buy a variety of local food items all in one place.

I wish I had checked out their website before I stopped by, because it sounds like they have a great farm: 200 acres of 80% organically grown sweet corn, broccoli, cabbage, cauliflower, lettuce, spinach, beets, carrots, squash, cucumbers, melons, and potatoes, a pantry where they bake fresh pies, breads, and pastries daily, as well as flowers and some all natural packaged treats. I pulled in to their gravel parking lot recently one afternoon and immediately thought the flowers and plants out front looked super healthy and happy. inside i was less impressed with their produce selection — the peaches were rock hard and really really cold like they’d been frozen. the pies and breads did look delicious, but the store is really so small that i felt uncomfortable meandering so i bought my blueberries and raspberries and left. i don’t know that they have a «pick your own» option for fruits and veggies in season, but the website mentions hay rides and corn mazes starting labor day and a scarecrow competition, so i bet it is nicer to visit in the fall.
