Pretty sad experience. First time back here in about 30 yrs. Booths are the same, but the atmosphere is outdated and depressed. I don’t know what happened because it was a very fun place to go in the past. They no longer use diner China. Everything comes in paper. The double hamburger is a single hamburger anywhere else. The food is blah. White bread only. But by far the worst change is the cheese curds and I hesitate to call them that. This was the fried cheese curd Capitol of the world back in the day. Now just a tiny serving of grease in a paper cup. No longer an excellent diner experience. Pathetic. And the servers were not friendly at all. We won’t be back.

the chili is as good as I have ever had anywhere. One bowl is not nearly enough. I’m taking two quarts to go with me back to Minnesota.

After living here for 13 years, we decided to try Kroll’s for lunch. We ordered a variety of burgers and sandwiches, and everyone was pleased with their meals. This place is definitely old school, which I can see might turn some people off. It doesn’t offer traditional service. You have to ring a buzzer to get a waiter, and they have you pay right away. But I feel that makes it more interesting. Everyone in our party was happy with the experience, and we will be back again in the future.

Came here for lunch to try some local fare while in town for a Packers game. This place came up in the Unilocal search for bratwurst but I’m not sure why. They did have a couple brat choices on the menu but it was in a small sandwich and nothing to write home about(per my hubby). I had a burger and it was pretty good. Beer was good, but very short on tap choices. Service was meh… bartender tried to take our order as soon as we sat down(we weren’t ready) then he didn’t come around til we flagged him down and then said he thought he had already taken out order. Food came relatively quickly and prices are very reasonable. We left content, but not impressed.

Kroll’s East and West are Green Bay Classics. Kroll’s East is in its same dingy location, where in the summer you need a fly swatter but don’t let that scare you. The food is great and cheaper than Kroll’s west. It’s iconic buzzers to get service are cool. The burgers are great, if you don’t like the butter dripping from them then you can go back to wherever you came from because you’re probably not a wisconsinite and don’t know what your talking about.

I’ve always wondered if I am related to the Krolls of Kroll’s East(& West)… I had to stop in just because of the good name! ;) The service was friendly, and the food was awesome! There is a little bit of a funky, musty smell about the place, but I think it adds to the classic charm. :)

$ 10.10 cents for 1 small cheese burger, small cheese curds, and a drink. The cheese burgers are ok, but more along the lines of a White Castle slider. They meat is somewhat smoky good, but has a hint of smokey old. The people who work there seem like you are bothering them by spending over $ 20 for 2 people to have a hamburger lunch. I think they have rested in their laurels for too long. The dumpling soup has great dumplings, but the stock has a weak off taste to it.

Every local will say that Krolls has the best burgers around, and well its because its been known in green bay for so long. Food is always hot, always consistent, and is very good. The old atmosphere really makes you feel as if your in an old diner which was always very cool to me as a kid. But now its getting to the point its way to old fashioned and needs some remodeling IMO. The fact that they make you pay the same time as receiving your food is the absolute worse idea anyone has ever came up with and they really need to change that. Service is about a 5−6÷10. But the food is so good I go back all the time!

Food was alright, the service on the other hand was horrible. They asked for me to pay when my food came then never returned to our table.

The only good thing about this place is the warm atmosphere. Particularly the furnishings and the well meaning staff. The beer list is completely abysmal, with no interesting beers and only one New Glarus product… really? It’s especially sucky when all the food is so GREASY. That kind of food is only good when you’ve got a beer in your hand. The fried cauliflower was good(although the breading was overfried) but the small order was truly small with only 8 or so tiny buds. I wish I’d tried their acclaimed chili because their burger was awful. The meat somehow tasted fake and spongey. The bun was thin and McDonalds-esque, and I’ve honestly never had that much pure butter drip from my burger. There was an actual puddle on my burger paper. Did I mention they don’t give you plates? Worst of all: YOUHAVETOPAYINADVANCED. This made me livid. I almost regret leaving a tip without even knowing the kind of service I was going to get(but I know it’s not their fault). I was going to order more and decided that it wasn’t going to happen. There’s just no way I want to pay for everything as it comes out. I’m never going back, that’s for sure. With that lame alcohol list, there’s nothing but the atmosphere to recommend it.

Average greasy bar food. Locals will say it’s a must stop but it really isn’t. Nothing is made fresh and service was subpar. Reminds me of eating at a county fair stand. If you want a real burger, go to Al’s Hamburgers on Washington – It has the 50’s diner feel and much better food.

I absolutely love Kroll’s! Can’t say it’s the healthiest place to eat, but the butter burgers are fantastic. They are always cooked perfectly. One odd thing is that mustard doesn’t come on the burger, unless you ask for it. The onion rings are also unbelievable! You can tell they batter and fry the onion rings to order. And I can’t forget about the chili. So good! My boyfriend and I stop by every time we come to Green Bay.

I wish we would have picked anywhere else to eat but Kroll’s East. Upon entering the establishment we noticed that there was food all over the floor. The bartender was polite. The tables were a mess and hadn’t been cleared, and the place was almost empty. My wife, myself, and our 3-year-old sat at a table while the other table dropped F-bombs. I had eaten here twice before, both times were horrible. I was told that the chili was«award winning», so that is what I ordered. My wife ordered a p rime rib sandwich and my son got a peanut butter and jelly sandwich. The waitress stated that she would take our order back to the kitchen after it was aid for… What? So I paid, and we waited. When our food arrived my son took a bite of his pb and j and instant gag reflex. My wife tried a bite and it tasted«tinny» with a horrid aftertaste. I let the server know and she said would let the kitchen know, would you son like something else? I said I think he would like the mac and cheese. During this time we experienced chili that was way too salty to eat(the worst I have ever tried, and a prime rib sandwich that consisted of greasy fat chunks and grissle. The waitress returned with deep fried mac and cheese nuggets(not mac and cheese as ordered) and charged us again before setting it at the table. I let the waitress know about the extremely salty chili, she took the bowl and we didn’t see her again. So disgusted by the quality of the environment, the service, and the food. We stood up and walked out without taking another bite. No wonder they make you pay first. We wete charged for three meals that we couldn’t even eat and we will never go back to Krolls East. I hope they enjoyed my money, because they won’ t see any more of it after tonights horrible food and lack of service.

This was by far the worst customer service that we have ever had. Definitely made the average food extremely sub part. All of the older staff seemed inconvenienced by our visit. We weren’t offered refills or checked on once, even when we told the young guy that brought our food that we would be wanting another beer. We had to ask for our ticket and were treated poorly even then. This was the worst dining experience that we have ever had.

This was everything I was looking for. A 70 year old oasis of delicious gastronomic delights all with the famous WIS twist. Once you pour that Leinie’s Red into what is THE proper beer glass(NOT a pint glass) and pop that first curd, you realize a nirvana for your taste buds has been found. Our bartender, the wizard, was our guide, and with map in hand, walked us thru all that can be experienced as we traveled thru the Oz of Yum.

So I grew up visiting Green Bay. My mother grew up there and my whole family lives there. Every time we visit, we HAVE to go to Kroll’s. Its almost like a tradition. The prices are low and the food is pretty good. Something I have only found up north is the butter on the burger. Its so yummy. I love the toasted buns and the butter! The burgers are not huge but filling enough. My dad, uncle, and cousin always get the perch plate. We don’t get perch in Florida, so its nice when we go up there to have it. It is nice and crispy and hot at Kroll’s. The best thing here is cheese curds! I think it may be something Wisconsin does best because I have never found them anywhere else. Kroll’s are cooked perfectly every time. This is not a fancy pants restaurant, its a good and homey and local restaurant. Sundays are filled with Packer fans watching and supporting the home team. Something we use to fight over as kids, was pushing the button. After eating yourself and getting your menus, you push the button when you are ready to order. If you need anything at all, you just push the button and your waitress comes right over. Yes when your food comes out, you pay, but lets be honest, it is actually a blessing. Once you are done, you can leave. You don’t have to sit around and wait for your waitress. And just because you paid, doesn’t mean they wont help you, just push the button! After reading other reviews, it seems like the people that don’t like this place, were looking for gourmet burgers. This is not that place. Its about family, they have big booths and local people enjoying food. I would always recommend this place. The other Kroll’s, by the stadium, was also featured on Travel Channel, with Adam Richman, man versus food. This place has been around for years, so they must be doing something right!

Krolls has been around for a long time, they have the best burgers and fish sandwich, not to mention their chili, it is the best chili anywhere hands down. Their prices are great, the beer is always cold and they always have the games on. Don’t confuse them with the Krolls on the Westside, no comparison between the two, they taste totally different. Anyway, Krolls East is a great place to get a burger and a bowl of chili, or on Friday maybe get some perch or chicken. The people that work there are friendly and it’s a great place to take the kids.

Probably the worst restaurant in town, Both Krolls restaurants are highly over rated and should be avoided. The first thing wrong with Krolls is the service, they drop a menu and walk away, to get your waitress back you push a button and they come back eventually, they take your order and you don’t see them until your food is ready, they don’t check up on refills or anything like that. When your food arrives they demand payment, your table is full of plates and food and they expect you to rummage for your money when you should be enjoying your food(although the food isn’t really enjoyable). Which brings be to the second problem, the food, I have honestly had better food from a school lunch room. The food isn’t fresh, it’s bland, it’s all from cans or frozen and it just leaves you feeling kind of gross. The last time I was there I ordered a bacon cheese burger, the bun was so crusty that it crumbled when I ate it and it was like a mouth full of sand mixed with my burger, the bacon was the consistency of old beef jerky. If you visit Green Bay, please check out other local places, down town has some good places and if you are near the stadium there are other far better choices than Krolls, don’t give them your business!

We decided to have lunch here today. Being that we were out of towners, we weren’t quite sure of the menu or anything. It was busy, so one of the waitresses helped us to find a booth. We ordered drinks and that’s when the fun started. 2 minutes after our drinks arrived we were approached by another waitress asking if we were ready. With so many things on the menu, we really weren’t, but we were informed that there was a huge party for lunch and if we didn’t order that it would be a while. So we hastily ordered the cheese curds to start, the double cheeseburger for me, cheesesteak for my sister and single cheeseburger for my wife. Our food arrived very quickly. That was impressive. The waiter that brought our food out brought the check with it, which was odd. What was even more odd is that instead of leaving the check, he asked for payment right then and there. I have never, ever seen that in a sit down restaurant. The food was okay. I can see why people like the burgers, except mine was chewy in places as well as my sister’s cheesesteak. Cheese curds were breaded. I could’ve gotten better at Culvers in Arizona, honestly. Fries were nothing to write home about. My double cheeseburger said it was 1⁄3rd of a pound. I guess their scale is broken. Seemed like 2 thin patties. It was okay… Just OK. Remember we had already paid when we got our food? I guess that means nobody comes by to ask you if you would like a refill of the soft drink that you paid $ 2 for or if you wanted dessert. We would have loved to have tried the caramel cake, but nobody asked. I guess that’s how they do it here… Sit down, rush your order, get your money and then wait for you to get out. We left a tip because we always felt that we should, but we should have left way less than we did. We always have a list of restaurants we frequent when we come to Green Bay. This will not make the list.

Kroll’s East in Green Bay, Wisconsin is like Arthur Bryant’s is to Kansas City or Skyline Chili is to Cincinnati. It’s an experience, and it’s one that shouldn’t be missed. I don’t get to Green Bay often but when I do, a visit to Kroll’s for their famous chili and cheeseburger is a religious experience for this foodie. No, it’s not high dining, but it’s a predictable kind of step back into the past – 1935 to be exact – and the kind of place soldiers getting ready to deploy to the middle east ask to dine at as their last meal before they leave home. It’s a diner, a dive, the kind of place regular folks crave. The chili is likely laced with cocoa, bits of cinnamon, allspice and certainly plenty of garlic. Get it with the noodles. It’s a can’t miss bowl and it comes with a big spoon, as if we all know that long noodles are to be cut into bite sizes with one. The hamburger comes cut in half and wrapped in paper. The bun is more like a piece of sturdy bread, apparently made by the restaurant. It’ll be dripping with juice and melts in your mouth. Honestly, it doesn’t look like a lot to eat, but that bowl of chili and cheeseburger will have you begging for a place to nap in a few hours. Get their famous malt and you have a lunch that’ll have you skipping dinner. I can’t imagine a world without places like Kroll’s. I’d like to think they’ll be around in another 75 years from now and if so, the world will be a better place for it.
