I was(and frankly, continue to be) underwhelmed. I ordered the Trio(3 sides). I was brought 1 sea scallop, 2 large shrimp, and a small dish of perhaps 5 mushrooms cooked in a garlic-butter sauce. The scallop was amazing(I only wish I had about three or four more), the mushrooms were also good, however also not plentiful. The shrimp however, were dry, tough, and a huge disappointment. When we arrived our waitress notified us there were no menus,(seriously?) and offered our group two appetizers on the house until some became available. However she couldn’t tell us what the appetizers were. Technology to the rescue as we pulled up their menu online. When the check arrived, it was one check for a group of 6 women, and the appetizers were listed. When I pointed this out, she was quick to apologize and remedied the bill to split them; however I’m disappointed she never asked how the checks should be handled to begin with. Again, I was very underwhelmed with the entire experience and will never desire to return. If it weren’t for my company at dinner, I would have left soon after walking in the door.

A week or so ago I posted an unfavorable review about a bad experience we had at Grey Rock(review was posted on 2÷13÷2016). At this time I want to send kudos to the Assistant General Manager of the Heidel House, Anna Koplin, who responded to my review and stepped up to correct our bad experience. My husband and I were very impressed with Anna’s handling of this, how quickly she resolved it, and how she went out of her way to make sure we were compensated for our meal and our gift card(which was mistakenly given as a Promo Card that had expired, unbeknownst to us at the time of payment). This is the kind of service we used to love about the Heidel House. Anna, thank you so much for restoring our faith in humanity once more.

This has become one of my favorite places. The Grey Rock Mansion is stunning, the food is great, and the staff very friendly and welcoming. I had the chef’s tasting menu paired with wine. Really a nice selection and great value. Of course, staying after dinner on Saturday night’s to listen to the live music in the lounge is a must!

The staff at Greyrock is accommodating and the bartender(Angel) is probably one of the best in NE Wisco-she knows here drinks, is very professional yet friendly and can recommend an appropriate wine. This has been true for each of our visits. However, this time around the food fell short of our expectations. The shrimp cocktail was flavorless, although they were of decent size. The root beer glazed duck was served a little too well done for my taste and the glaze was exceptionally sweet. The bone-in ribeye($ 39) was ordered medium rare, but over cooked. We had the same problem with the steaks when we visited a month ago. We added onions to the steak and it came with so many onions we could barely see the steak. I need to note, the restaurant manager addressed these issues IMMEDIATELY and didn’t make us feel as if we were a burden– she would be a reason I would give HH another try. Staff can really make a difference and we were very impressed by the staff here. Upside: the bread has a great crust and a soft center. The salad served with the meal had large blueberries, blackberries and strawberries. I would come for the atmosphere and the drinks. I really like Heidel House and I wantbto attribute the average performance to the off season. But think I would drive to the Treasury in Ripon if I really wanted a good meal.

I had an excellent Saturday night meal here with a group of ten. The service was good, and they had a pianist playing, so nice ambiance. The walleye was tasty, as was my mom’s stuffed acorn squash. I can’t speak to the desserts, but the ones everyone else had at the table looked mouthwatering. A little pricey but at least the quality of the food was there.

The service was exemplary and the food was among the best I have ever tasted and seen. The presentation was beautiful and the atmosphere was romantic, with our table being set right in front of a fireplace. On top of that, the price was reasonable. We received a 4-course meal including appetizer, soup/salad, entrée and dessert(each paired with a 1.2-size wine or beer) for only $ 44 per person.

Grey Rock JUST launched a happy hour from 4:30 — 6:30pm every weekday and it is fabulous. $ 3 drafts. $ 5 martinis(get the cucumber one!). Plus a complimentary appetizer buffet(if you purchase a beverage… which you should). We snagged a table by the window and creepily watched a wedding rehearsal happening off the Green Lake shores on the Grey Rock lawn. It was fantastic. All in all, the appetizers were great, drinks were delicious, view was wonderful and bill was the best part! Special note: Angel, the head bartender, is awesome — be sure to strike up a conversation! And tell her Mel H. says hi.

Skip this place for Brunch. This was our 4th annual brunch at Grey Rock and our last. We loved going every year because of the great food, beautiful view and fair price. However, this year under new management they changed the menu and raised the price by $ 5. Now you have to order your one(limited to one) main entrée from a menu. The only items set out buffet style were 2 awful salads(cabbage and bean), crescents, plain yogurt with 3 toppings, and a chef making eggs to order. The dessert consisted of five versions of petite fours and nothing else. I also noticed that the outside was overgrown with weeds and dead plants. Not the kept up landscape I remember from previous years. I would not recommend this so called brunch.

So our experience with Grey Rock Mansion was definitely a mixed bag. We walked in ready for a lovely evening and dinner by the river, but it didn’t quite happen. We arrived a little before 6:30pm and was told that they didn’t take walk-ins until 7:15. Kind of odd to me, but we decided to enjoy some apps and cocktails in the lounge while we waited. Around 7:15, my husband went to ask the hostess if we could be seated soon. She replied that it would be another 15 mins because she already seated 12 people. Wow! That was a shocker because we were waiting there for 45 mins already. No worries. We closed out our tab and waited closer to the stairs. When we sat down, she didn’t even acknowledge our presence. It was almost as if we forgot to take off our invisible cloaks.. Another 30 mins passed and nothing was said to us as we watched multiple parties leave– some who even came in at the same time we did. Another few mins passed and my husband went up to ask her how long will we be waiting again. «Oh just a few more mins». Another waitress comes upstairs and says that the manager said to bring down those with reservations and the walk-ins will have to wait another 30 mins. What?!. The problem with this? She passed us by and went to look for the reservations without even whispering a word. Well that was the straw that broke the camel’s back. We kindly walked out and went to Norton’s. The only wonderful thing about the place was our lounge waiter, Mr. Ernie. He was so pleasant and friendly and attentive. If you do happen to visit this place, just stay in the lounge and see Ernie. He’s wonderful!

Love it. Excellent menu with elegant presentation and a good wine list. Cocktails upstairs near the fireplace and dinner downstairs lakefront. Outstanding views, food and service. Best in Green Lake.

Kudos to the advertising department. I read the list of brunch items and decided to go there today. Figuring they would be busy, we went earlier and found there was only one other couple seated. Server was very pleasant and helpful. The servers all have the same speech about the brunch line which was absolutely correct. Starting on the left, I found the cold shrimp on the small side, the smoked salmon was dry. The hot buffet foods were not hot. The beef in red wine sauce was tough. The roast beef was very tasty but hard to cut. Scalloped potatoes with asiago cheese was good, but the cubed potatoes with cheese was gummy. The best part was the chef-made omelets and the kitschy thing was the flambé’d pancakes. For just that silly pancake we may make a trip back. The brunch selection is limited, The glass of mimosa or champagne is a nice touch. Price is reasonable and worth it.

If I could rate this place with 10 stars, I would. It totally deserves it. We went there just yesterday, Saturday night. It was very quiet, despite Saturday. But, I guess we were off season. The ambiance and service were absolutely fantastic. Food was sooooo delicious, worth every dollar we spent on it. Our server, Alan, was very kind and knowledgeable. Plus he spent some time in France, so he has good knowledge of wines. But the best part of our dinner was a pianist(Fran the Piano Man) who was playing in the lounge where we were dining. It was absolutely fantastic. If we are back in the area, we will definitely be back.
