Oh my how this place has changed. In the past the food was fresh and you could count on your sushi and all other yummies to be delicious. Fast forward to today and it seems as if they do not pay attention to detail and I believe they have cut corners to make their bottom PROS Plenty of parking Friendly staff CONS Sushi and sashimi on the blah side Portion control affirmative! Noodles are bland, savory food not tasty nor spicy Not so clean restaurant area nor bathroom Horrible bathroom Pricey for the quality

This sushi and sashimi were great tonight. I don’t see why people knock it. It’s a small place not a five star sushi restaurant and it delivers massive bang for your buck. I had the sushi sashimi platter with 20 pieces. The tuna and the yellow tail sashimi were very fresh and the cuts were clean. The butterfly roll was pure bliss and the hot sake to bring it all together was great. Waitress was very attentive, but not bothersome. The presentation of the dishes was beautiful and the portions were more than fair. This is our new go to spot for close to home. I also recommend IKKO sushi in silver spring if you’re a sushi fan.

The best buffet! I always want to come here constantly, I always leave full and satisfied. I enjoy the chicken and broccoli, fried rice and general tso chicken, and the other varieties of Chinese food. The calamari is a must as well. Great service as well, there is always a server not too far away from your table to clean and get refills.

I don’t mind a lightly seasoned meal, but when I want spicy, I WANTSPICY. When the Osaka had a «spicy» seafood salad, I’m readying my tastebuds to water up for fire. They gave me the seafood salad and a bottle of Serachi sauce. MAJORDISAPPOINTMENT! I have to season it? I think they should pay me if I’m to prepare the meal to an anticipated standard, even if it’s partially a standard. I had to use my wife’s miso soup to add flavor to the rice at the bottom of the dish, and the remaining ginger salad dressing(on the usual boring salad appetizer) to the boring cold iceberg lettuce. My wife had the beef curry. Her being from India knows a few curry dishes, and it was a sadly done version of anything curry. She spent a good amount of time adding black pepper to every few forkfulls. They could have dimmed the lights to give it a softer atmosphere.

I feel bad for this poor review but the sushi was not good. I was weary about trying this place because of the mixed reviews but I realized that in order to formulate my own opinions I had to try it. I don’t want to make this long but the sushi was dry and rubbery, almost like it wasn’t freshly made but I witnessed the sushi chef make it with my own eyes. I’ve had better gas station sushi. The tempura fried shrimp were more like batter deep fried shrimp fried using 5 month old grease. Just not quality sushi, maybe I had a bad batch? Not sure but I won’t be going back. The only good roll was the philly roll which im happy I got or I would have been starving.

3.5 stars. I’ll be honest, I prefer the old management. The new management is trying their best, I suppose, but the old management offered more incentives for their customers(i.e. happy hour, discounts, etc.) If I’m in need for sushi, I head here because it’s right in the neighborhood. My usual is either the California Roll, Philly Roll, Golden Bridge Roll, Cherry Blossom Roll, or Butterfly Roll. I try other rolls every once in a blue moon but, really, it’s pretty much the ones I’ve listed. Hey, I stick to what I know. Anywho, no complaints about the sushi. It could be better but it’s definitely not bad, either. I do love the appetizer options. especially their Osaka Balls, Shumai, and Gyoza. For noodles, I always get the Yakisoba, the chicken and/or shrimp option. Pretty tasty. For a neighborhood option, it’s nice to have around. The average rating is mostly because of management. Despite being wedged between a liquor store and a dry cleaning place(I think???), inside of Osaka is clean, nicely decorated and, surprisingly, pretty quiet.

I’m giving Osaka two stars(instead of one) for the service. The waitress was very friendly and efficient, and she got my order absolutely right, even though I asked for several modifications to items on the menu. I ordered three sushi rolls, and the quality of the fish was poor. The salmon and tuna were largely tasteless, and what I did taste was not very fresh. Not«I’m going to get sick» bad, but«this is not the delightful experience I was hoping for» bad. I’m a huge, huge sushi fan, and in my frequent desperation I’ll eat almost any sushi– from the grocery store, from«fast food» sushi joints, anything– but I won’t go back to this place. My husband got katsu don and the pork was tough and chewy. On the whole, a disappointing experience.

**NEWOWNER** What more can I ask for. The owner Mr. Roy is GREAT along with his daughter Mei and wife who all run the place. Sushi is always good and fresh. And prices are fair. The only thing needed here is to remodel the place and bring in more light. I frequent Osaka on a regular basis and pick this place over the others in the area for freshness and how friendly the staff is here. To top it off everyone knows my daughter’s names and treat them beyond GREAT. Very kid friendly. We sit at the sushi bar so we can talk to Mr. Roy. You won’t find a sushi spot family ran within a few miles easily.

It’s a decent quick lunch when you work at Goddard Space Flight Center. Staff is friendly and the food is predictable & consistent. The bento box give you a huge lunch, nice sampling. Service is quick & attentive without being annoying.

I have been here a few times before and everything has been good each time. Service is prompt and polite. You get piping hot soup and a fresh salad prior to your meal. The Crazy Roll is top notch and huge!

Before I retired, I LOVED coming to this restaurant for both their sushi and the BESTGINGERICECREAMINTHEWORLD! Due to circumstances beyond my control, I had stopped coming to this restaurant for awhile and didn’t know that the management had changed. Tonight, a friend brought me to the Osaka, for a special treat, and I was deeply disappointed. The new menu is off-putting and, when I asked for one of the new desserts listed, that I had never had before, Tempura Ice Cream, the waitress went into this L-O-N-G story about why they no longer offer any desserts! Strike One! I asked for some hot tea, remembering what that lovely tea used to taste like in those heavy ceramic mugs. What I got was tasteless in PLASTIC! Strike Two! Then my Salmon Don was eventually brought to my table, after what felt like waiting forever, and quickly discovered ICECRYSTALS in all the fish slices! Strike Three! Knowing how the former management carefully prepared their food and how FRESH their sushi used to be, what this current management is doing is lousy. What used to be my favorite restaurant as been crossed off my list. I do not plan to return and will advise my friends to avoid this place.

Stopped in here for a quick lunch. The place is okay, but I’d never come back or recommend it to anyone. Here’s why: — The menu is unimpressive — The service was slow — They don’t offer gluten-free soy sauce(most places do these days) — The VEGGIE rolls had little orange fish eggs on them. No thanks! Here’s why I’m giving at least two stars: — Although slow, the staff was friendly — My lunch order came with soup and salad. — I was also given some sort of crunchy complimentary wonton thing. I didn’t eat it, but that was nice.

Despite the terrible reviews, I decided to try Osaka after a friend told me that this is their go-to sushi place. I had a fine experience, so I’ll go back. We ordered California and yellowtail & scallion rolls. They were ready for pickup within ten minutes. The California rolls were tasty and the avocado was fresh, though they could have used a little more crab. Also, they had roe inside the roll and on the outside, which I thought was a bit strange. The yellowtail & scallion roll was tasty, and I would order it again. I was told that they have a sushi happy hour, so I’ll go again and check out some of their other rolls.

I went to this restaurant while on a business trip. It is right across the street, so I thought it’d be an ideal place to get a light lunch. Mistake. The server/hostess was friendly and attentive. I ordered a sashimi sampler. It came with salad, miso soup and a side of rice. It was well-priced. The salad was like any other sushi restaurant: an iceberg mix topped with ginger dressing. It was OK. The miso soup was good, typical miso soup, and I didn’t eat any of the rice(I was trying to eat light). The good attributes abruptly ended there… My sashimi came out(12 pieces, four types of fish for a decent price), and there were two types of fish that I did not recognize. One, in particular, looked like a white disk with no desirable fish-like features. But the worst part of the experience, and the reason for the 1-star rating, was that the fish was partially frozen, firm, and completely tasteless. I am not exaggerating when I say tasteless. I had to marinade my fish in soy sauce, top it with a considerable dab of wasabi, and eat it with a whole shaving of ginger just to taste anything resembling that of sashimi. And, most of my bites resulting in slushing into ice cold, nearly frozen fish. Sushi should be chilled. Chilled. Sushi is one of my top 3 favorite cuisines, and I have easily been to over 50 sushi restaurants. Osaka was the worst sushi experience I have ever had.

Osaka has changed owners since I wrote my review, and I can no longer give it my endorsement. The décor has slightly improved, but the menu has declined in appeal and quality. I didn’t find many interesting things on the sushi menu, all of my favorites were gone, and the prices seemed to be higher. The lunch/dinner menu had some intriguing pan-Asian options, but the curry that we tried was very disappointing. To top it off, I was incredibly ill later in the evening after our visit — this could’ve been a coincidence, but the whole experience was incredibly off-putting. I mourn the loss of «old Osaka» terribly. It was a work lunch favorite, and an occasional dinner treat. I have many fond memories of eating here with my best friend, and I long for the sushi treats I can no longer get anywhere — seared garlic albacore and the most perfect scallop salad. Bring them back, and maybe I’ll give the new menu another shot!

This is my go to sushi joint in the Greenbelt area. They have tasty rolls at decent prices. The staff is attentive and friendly. Whenever I go it seems to be a quiet and not-too-crowded place where you can enjoy your meal and a book or bring a date or something. Definitely recommended if you like good sushi.

Well this one has one of the worst looking roll ever. My kids probably can even make a better roll than the chef. The whole time he was there making the sushi, he has been taking a deep breath something that bothers him. The meat is just like a bad fish or worst kind of fish you can get from oriental market. I can’t describe the taste without having to recall the bad experience I had. There are other much better sushi place in DC area. worth the drive.
