I am sorry to say the place has closed. It is being auctioned off so I do not know it’s future. But it was a fun bar and a great resturant

Old Topper has had some menu changes, I think you’ll like them. They are still doing some renovations on the inside of the restaurant, but are open thursdays — sundays for lunch and dinner. There has been upchanges to the salad bar for the better, more selections to choose from. The pub is open tuesdays — sundays and serves full menu selections, except baked or mashed potatoes are served for dinner only. They do have some of the best hand battered items around Greencastle, go see what they have, I’m sure you won’t be dissapointed. Also, they have a live DJ in the Pub on friday and saturday nights, as well as open mic every thursday! Fun times!

We recently stopped by Old Toppers for dinner one weekend to find that the restaurant side was closed for remodeling. We were informed by a few folks standing outside that the bar was open, and you can get some of the food items inside. We decided to go for it. Topper’s Bar has a divey feel to it. Pool tables, televisions, tall ceilings. It can get pretty noisy. We were a little concerned that perhaps going was a bad idea but were quickly reassured by Tiny, the bartender. Our first impression was that Tiny would be this gruff man and we would have mediocre service but you know what the say about making assumptions! Tiny was great. Friendly, funny, prompt with the food and drinks. Big thumbs up for Tiny. The food was great. Their fried items are homemade in house. Not something from a bag like a lot of places. Had the tenderloin, which was a little too thin, but was big enough for two sandwiches. They actually serve it on two buns it’s so big. Had a side of house-cut fries which were tasty but way too much salt on them. Despite the few flaws, I would come back here any time. Maybe just ask for fries without salt. They have a good beer selection as well, and cheap specials during the week. Check them out!

Old Topper Tavern always looks closed from the outside, but don’t be fooled, they are open. A dark bar that looks like cowboys have been roaming there for ages, it actually provides very good food — perhaps the best food in Greencastle. Their BBQ Burger is HUGE and perfectly grilled, seasoned, and stacked. One of the best burgers I ever ate! Order them with the onion rings, which are also of exceptional quality. Battered in a slightly sweet coating, these perfectly deep fried thick slices of fresh onion are delicious with their radish-may dip. I also like their chunky chili, which has a nice kick to it. Oh, and for the health-conscious there is a small but fresh salad bar! Edit 2011: The last couple of months Old Topper has not reached its usual high quality. They have(again) changed the batter of the onion rings, which still taste good, but not extraordinary. The BBQ burger now comes with pieces of bacon, rather than slices, which also decreased the pleasure.
