Yassss made it my mission to try their food at the Burke St Food Truck Festival this past weekend! There was a line but it was worth the wait. Their beef empanadas are huge and crispy. The meat inside is still juicy and delicious. The chicken empanadas was juicy as well and had onions in them. I also ordered tostones which are fried plantains and everything is served with a pinkish sauce that tastes like ketchup, mayo and garlic. The tostones were huge and had the perfect amount of salt and crunch to them. I’ll have to keep an eye out to find them again here in Winston.

I always enjoy trying food trucks. i think of them as simple to go food in your hand. This food truck has many other choices besides the empandas, but let’s just say i understand why the title is empanadas Borinquen. I have had the pleasure of having the chicken and beef empanadas. The side sauce is also delicious(to be honest i am not sure what is in it.) The Tostones are nice and crisp. Great friendly staff too

For a food truck this place cranks out some amazing food. I dont give too many places a 5 star rating, my standards are high, and lets face it. Its not a 5 star world we live in. Empanadas Borinquen has delivered the goods, and wowed me with their tripleta sandwich. Loaded with fresh rich meat of pork, ham, and beef, then grilled with swiss cheese, this sandwich will have you questioning your own belief system. How can food be this good? This is a food truck? This is some of the best Cuban and Latin food that I have had in my life. It is all that. Worthy of a note home and a phone call. They make the food to order so they are not the fastest. But they are the best. This sandwich is quite large. It can take your biggest appetite and squash it completely. It could easily feed 2 people. The price is great. The staff was friendly and helpful. I enjoyed this so much. Highly recommended.

I’ve followed these guys for months and finally tracked them down tonight! The DTWS Food Truck Friday’s was the place, and man was it out of this world! Service getting the food was a bit slow for there only being four in front of me. But the results were fantastic! The Tripleta was so incredibly juicy and savory that I couldn’t stop eating! The three meat combined with the sauce, cheese, tomatoes, and lettuce were phenomenal! If your looking for a taste of Puerto Rico or Cuba, check them out! I no longer have to go to Charlotte for my fix anymore! This southern gentleman can certainly get it with Empanadas Borenquin!

I had the pleasure of trying the food truck at the Spring Garden Food Truck Festival and all I can say is OMG! The shrimp empanada was EVERYTHING! I’m talking sautéed red bell pepper and perfectly cooked succulent shrimp in every bite. The pastry was flaky and moist… fried to a golden perfection. My brother had the beef empanada which was basically empty but tasty. We split the Tripleta(Tres Carnes). Yes I said split. That sucker is huge. Three tender meats with an awesome sauce, lettuce, and tomato between 2 a toasted long roll. Oh and I can’t forget the super cute quarter size tostonones. They were absolutely perfect… crunchy but not hard with a dash of salt. Nothing was too greasy either. It was so friggin’ good I swear I saw a tear escape my bro’s eye. I simply thanked sweet baby Jesus for this yummiest sandwich ever. I’m going to stalk this truck for sure.

Love this food truck!!! Hailing from Miami, FL, I am always on the lookout for Latin food that is not Mexican(which there is a plethora of in the triad.) Empanadas Borinquen hits CRU Wine & Beer which is just down the street from me fairly often… so I have sampled their Mofongo(mashed green plantains with garlic, olive oil and pork rinds,) Carne Frita con Tostones y Ensalada(fried pork chunks with flattened fried green plantains & salad,) Beef & Chicken Empanadas, and the Tripleta Sandwich. The platters & the sandwiches are more than enough for 2 people to share — especially if you share an empanada for an appetizer! They serve everything with a side of sauce — I am not sure what is in it — a spicy, garlicky, creamy YUMMINESS is how I would describe it. I have seriously enjoyed EVERYTHING I have sampled from this food truck. If you have never eaten Puerto Rican food — just take a chance — any of their empanadas or sandwiches would be a good, safe bet for a newbie!

Puerto Rican street food, savory, saucy, delightful. Over a few visits we’ve tried the beef, shrimp, & guava(dessert) empanadas, as well as the mofongo platter. All were tasty; hubs likes shrimp best, and the guava was a perfect sweet ending. They also have a guava and cream cheese, but the cream cheese was almost extraneous. Grab extra napkins; they’re not neat eating.

Had the chance to try this food truck out at an event in downtown Winston last week. My friend and I each got a beef empanada and a guava with cheese empanada. Total was less than $ 5 and it was super filling and delicious! Both had a deliciously crispy crust without being greasy. The beef empanada filling was ground beef, onions with a great spice. The guava with cheese empanada was a wonderfully sweet yet savory dessert. Definitely would recommend!
