Super affordable and accommodating. I highly recommend! I ordered the fried shrimp and oyster basket, no slaw, sub extra hush puppies, and chose potatoes as side. So much food! Everyone I ate with loved it. Very attentive service as well.

We went to The Shrimp Basket in Gulfport because my father stops there regularly on his trips to deliver boats that he sells. I was so impressed that I might go with him to deliver his next boat. I had raw oysters, and a shrimp boil that included potatoes corn on the cob and 42 shrimp. That I shared with everyone. We also had Mahi Mahi tacos. Everything was cooked to perfection. The staff was friendly and attentive. If you are ever in Gulfport stop by The Shrimp Shack. Be sure and Have some of Ashley’s Crack Sticks(funnel cake fries). They are addictive little treats covered in caramel sauce and dusted with powdered sugar. We ate at 10 different restaurants on this trip, one that was over $ 50 per person, and The Shrimp Basket was my favorite meal of the trip.

I’m going to have to start this review with a couple of qualifiers. The first is that this is not a Louisiana/Mississippi style seafood place. It’s more an east coast thing. So some of y’all are going to think it’s «bland.» It isn’t bland. Not at all. But there’s not a lot of spice in it. It’s more about tasting the seafood than loading it up with spice, and you can taste the seafood quite well. I tried to find out if this place was owned by Red Lobster, seeing as that’s really what this is, in a way. It’s a stripped down Red Lobster without the pretense. The fried seafood is just like Red Lobster, the tartar sauce tastes very similar to Red Lobster’s, they have fried clam strips like Red Lobster and like most places around here don’t. In fact, you can pretty much create the old Red Lobster Neptune Platter from the olden days before Red Lobster stopped carrying fried oysters. Now I also need to say that most of the fried seafood here comes from a bag and goes from bag to fryer. That can be a very bad thing, but it depends a great deal on how it was processed before it went into the bag and how it was handled after. You can tell this stuff had been frozen, but there wasn’t even the slightest hint of old seafood to it. It was sweet and very tasty, all of it, oysters, fish, clam, shrimp. It’s like a Red Lobster, but like Red Lobster at the top of its game. With fried and fresh oysters. And po-boys. And red beans and rice, and gumbo, and étouffée. Of the last three, I only tried the gumbo, and it was nice. Now some folk have complained about it being dirty and having slow service. Neither was true for me when I went in. Others have complained about portions, but I’ll counter that by pointing out the low prices. Where else around here are you gonna get a dozen oysters on the half shell for ten bucks? Or a basket with fish, shrimp, oysters, stuffed crab, hush puppies, and a side of gumbo for fifteen bucks? FIFTEENBUCKS, people! C’mon! And yes, it’s mostly from frozen, but I’ll take frozen sweet seafood over never-frozen seafood that’s been sitting in the fridge for days any day of the week.(I’m talking to YOU, «The Dock!») Tomorrow’s my birthday. I was originally gonna hit the Blow Fly for the stuffed flounder, but I think I’ve just talked myself into the Shrimp Basket. Don’t let me down!

Fried seafood, hole in the wall. Nice servers who did a good job dealing with a large party. This is the coastal equivalent of a local burger joint. Some will swear by it; typically because they haven’t experienced much else.

We ate here twice during our stay if that tells you how I feel about it. The first time the wife, kids and I ate here for lunch. I had the blackened mahi tacos which were awesome and the wife had stuffed crab. We liked it so well a couple days later we brought our entire group of 13 for dinner and not one complaint. And it was reasonably priced as well.

We eat here at least once every year when we come to Gulfport for vacation. It’s not fancy but it sure is good. My wife loves the New Potatoes so much she gets a double order. I enjoy the shrimp slaw as well as the red ans and rice. The shrimp and oysters are fresh and delicious. Family friendly and won’ melt the credit card.

My favorite place for gumbo and fried seafood in Gulfport. Service is great, I asked for something that wasn’t on the menu and they were happy to put it together.

We were seated 10 minutes before the waitress came to take drinks orders and another 10 before she came back with drinks. The seating area isn’t large and was being covered by two waitresses. The blackened catfish was bland as was the fried okra(which seems hard to do, fried okra is easy right?). I wouldn’t return and I wouldn’t recommend.

I heard about this place from a friend. It’s a chain type place but you wouldn’t know it by the food. Food it amazing. I had the red beans and rice with sausage. Whoa. Amazing. I high, y recommend it. I also had the Shrimp Basket on another day I was there. It was good. Fried seafood. Not much you can do to screw that up. Was a little chinsy on the hush puppies… Whatever. Overall, I keep going back. Red beans and rice are ridiculous. Staff is super friendly. Clean inside.

Reasonably priced and great food!!! Kinda a «greasy spoon» type place but those are the places with the best food!!! Definitely give this place a try! Shrimp was excellent and large! Most places serve small shrimp and charge too much, not this place! My complaint? The steamed new potatoes need seasoning. They were slightly overlooked and need seasoning. These were very bland.

The first time going here I was a fan of the food but not the service, and when you have a toddler who doesn’t like to wait 30 minutes for a grilled cheese sandwich it was hard to try again but we did. The food here is great and the only reason we returned. Second time around it was fabulous. I had the grilled shrimp and my husband had the grilled shrimp and whitefish. Both were great and MUCH better service the second time.

This is a great place if you want fast, good quality, fried fish. We went recently due to the convenient location and ordered the all you can eat white fish(on Thursdays and one other day). It was delicious and very hot and fresh upon delivery. There was nothing special about the new potatoes or French fries but the fish made up for it. I’m not a cole slaw fan, but theirs has shrimp in it which was a nice touch.

WAY overpriced for what you get. For example, on Sunday and Wednesday they have an all you can eat shrimp special for $ 11.99. For an extra dollar you can get blackened shrimp. These are dinky little popcorn shrimp and you only get about a dozen of them. When you ask for a refill they bring you 8 – 9 more and it takes a while for that. Drinks are an extra $ 2+ on top of that. Combine with a $ 2 tip and you’re looking at over $ 18 for less than two dozen shrimp. Yeah, I could have stayed longer and eaten a bunch more but I was on my lunch hour. You can get much more for your money just about anywhere else. The food was good, but not worth it.

I took my wife here for Valentine Day because she had a taste for seafood. The service was okay I had to keep reminding the waitress to bring items that were missing from the order or table. The waitress was nice enough to give my wife a coupon for a free bowl of Jambalaya. My wife loved it. I ordered the catfish basket and my wife ordered the seafood platter. The portion they gave was right for the price. The fish was hot but could have been seasoned a bit more. The slaw had a bit too much mayo. My wife seem to have enjoyed her meal she had little to no complaints. I think three stars is fair.

Popped in here on a very quick trip to Mississippi on my way to New Orleans… drove by and thought it had a fun vibe. Boy was I right! Great food… tartar sauce is outstanding !! Waitstaff were all very attentive to everyone, not just their tables, bar area. Next time I’m in the area I’ll definitely pop in again!

I don’t get to visit the Gulf Coast nearly as often as I’d like, but that’s just life. However, I had a rare opportunity to visit the Port of Gulfport on Wednesday(08÷27÷14) for a work assignment. We arrived early and headed to the dock before the sun started to work it’s magic on the top of my balding head. By 1:00PM we finished the task at hand and were recommended by our local Gulfport counterparts to try the food at The Shrimp Basket. I always trust the locals when it comes to food options, and The Shrimp Basket tuned out to be a decent spot. The restaurant was very unassuming from the outside, but the décor on the inside was pleasant and inviting. We were greeted immediately upon entering and were seated immediately thereafter. Our server, Shitara(spelling) was very personable and I would recommend you requesting her if you ever get the opportunity to eat here. If I had not been working, I would have liked to eat at the bar, as it looked like one of the best«perches» in the restaurant. The restaurant was only ¼ full when we arrived, but the place soon filled to over ¾ capacity in the next 30 minutes. It appears that the local soldiers like to eat here as I saw several Airmen from Keesler Air Force Base and a few Army soldiers as well. Unfortunately, I have been on a «health kick» for the past 73 days, so my food choices have been rather limited. However, they had an all you can eat shrimp special for lunch that included grilled, fried or blackened shrimp. I opted for the grilled shrimp and a side of boiled cabbage. Unfortunately, we had to wait a long time for our food(nearly 30 minutes), even though the restaurant was not that crowded. Our waitress was a «gem» and kept our«tea» glasses full and checked on us often. My dish came with 2 hush puppies and cole slaw as well. I passed on the calorie laden cole slaw but could not resist the piping hot hush puppies; which were so good. I’m glad they only gave me 2, as I would have been very tempted to eat more. The shrimp, although a little small, were seasoned perfectly. The serving size was approximately 15 shrimp, but as soon as they arrived, Shitara asked if we wanted another plate, so she immediately put in another order for more shrimp. The good news is that once the initial food arrived, the follow up plates(yeah, I said plates with an «S») arrived quickly. Overall, my experience here was ok. The food was average and the prices were ok. The shining star of the day was our server. Would I go back here? Maybe, as there are so many other options on the Gulf Coast. I may not be a fan yet, but I can honestly say that this place is A-Ok.

This little family run restaurant has obviously listened to Unilocalers. The interior was clean, new carpet and clean bathrooms. Though the restrooms are a little awkward to get into because they are small, but for those of us that are claustrophobic, there is the family restroom for space. The dining room was full and so I expected our food to come out really slow. Folks this is hand made stuff down to the tatar sauce which is delicious, I’m just not a fan of tatar sauce. Everything was delicious and fresh and hot. The boiled potatoes were a little plain but spruced right up under a little salt and pepper. I would rather add some than be over seasoned. Service was friendly and helpful.

Sitting here waiting on food. Doubtful I’ll be coming back here. For one the ladies bathroom was nasty and the dining room floor was dirty. There was trash all over. I attached a photo of just one area. For the # of staff, SOMEONE could have been rolling a roller broom over the floor instead of hanging out at the bar. Our waitress was good and we appreciated her efforts. As for dinner, there were only 6 tables seated in the entire restuarant. We asked if we could get half fried and half blackend shrimp for one of the po boys. The waitress went back and asked the Mgr(some woman, did not get her name). And we were told no. Now I could see if they were busy. But seriously how hard would it have been to blacken a few shrimp while the other fried? My fish was supposed to be blackened. It looked like it was steamed with a little red seasoning on it. ITWASNOWHERENEARBLACKENED. Anyone from the south knows what blackened is. The potatoes had no flavor, or seasoning and where mushy. I actually did not finish them and sent them back Our waitress was nice and also expressed some frustration. She too thought there was at least no reason why we could not have gotten the shrimp half and half given there were only 6 tables seated. As for the floor being like it was and the bathroom, she did offer to get the MGR. BUTREALLY, do you have to be told to clean. Perhaps if the Mgr were managing and not sitting in the back she’d have known this. This is the same kind of stuff you see on TV where they go in and fix problems. I only wish Id have taken additional photos. Next time I will.
