Slow but friendly service, simple yet delightful chicken and rice, drab yet clean décor, and a price point that’s hard to beat(around 7 or 8 bucks) make Cocoin Kitchen my new go-to post-workout lunch spot when in the area! I don’t know much about Hainan Chicken, but damn, it sure is tasty! The rice and sauces it comes with(«red» & «green», per our waitress) are excellent as well. I’ll definitely be back, but will struggle to venture on to other plates when I’m confident that I’ve already found my favorite! Note that the salt & pepper chicken wings are very much a worthy accompaniment, if your appetite permits. Cocoin Kitchen is closed on Tuesdays, but open until 9pm every other day. Bonus: AMEX accepted!

Tried this place for the first time today, the Kung Pao Shrimp had ALOT of onions and not the usual taste, the sauce was very runny.(Won’t order that again). Beef Chow fun was good, green beans were stirred fried in a powder… just so so, I will re-stir fry in soy w sugar & garlic. Portions were big, picked up my order, staff was friendly.

Such nice people, such great food. I love eating here. It’s great when you’re pressed for time because they are fast and they also speak English so that’s a plus! Try it out, you won’t regret it.

If I could give this place zero stars I would. This used to be a great place to dine when Karen owned it The next owner was as good Whoever purchased this place and changed the name of it has run it into the ground We dined there once since and you could not pay us to go back There was not one redeemable part of the experience The cook was out front of the restaurant in full view smoking a cigarette For all of these great reviews, I am guessing they are family of the owners or friends Disappointing that a once decent place for Chinese food has fallen so far down into the gutter

Look/taste: 4⁄5 stars. I came for the Hainan Chicken per good reviews here. It was good overall but had a few distraction IMO. People who likes sesame oil will love this place but it was too much of a good thing for my taste. The chicken tasted good but was drenched in oil. The hainan FRIED rice was good but again oily. The ginger scallion was good but again too much oil. The coconut jello was very good and is only one of few places that even has it. So try one if you have a chance. They serve it in young coconut for $ 7.50 or in a cup for $ 3.50. Atmosphere: 3⁄5 stars. Half run down hole in the wall. They could make it feel better if they clean the front door glass and wall mirrors inside. m Service: 4⁄5 stars. Waitress was very nice and efficient. English is not her strong point but she aims to please. She even gave me free soup. Expense: 4⁄5 stars. Cheap and reasonable adjective came to mind. For the quality and cost ratio I can’t complain. Return: 4⁄5 stars. Yes when I want cheap food. If the atmosphere was better with better cleanliness then I’d come back more often. Overall 3.75 stars so it was rounded up to 4 stars. Recommended? Yes, but come with a hole in the wall expectation and you’ll be ok.

Came here for dinner with some friends — food was definitely average. Cheap but average. Two ordered the Hainan Chicken Rice, which was tasty but didn’t come with much chicken($ 7.50). I ordered the Chicken w/Chinese Broccoli. I expected Chinese Broccoli with this dish, but instead, it came with regular broccoli! My Chinese friend said the Chinese lettering indicated it was regular broccoli, so their English translation is incorrect on their menu. They should really fix that bc I would not have ordered it had I known. The fourth dish was fish in black bean sauce. Both the chicken and fish dishes were not small, though both did not come with a lot of meat. The fish dish tasted good but the sauce was a bit watery. Dinner was $ 7.95 each and came with a sweet and sour soup. Food took a while to come out, too. There was only one girl working who did not seem to speak English, but she was very nice and even brought out separate bills for all of us. Milk tea was pretty good — I got mine without boba so it was under $ 2.

Came in for lunch several times now during the week. This is newly owned and are currently open 7 days a week from 11 to 9 pm. Parking is no issue since they are located in a strip center and share parking with other businesses. I tried variety of items which was salt & pepper tofu, beef with snow peas, fish filet with bell peppers & black bean sauce and filet mignon over rice. The lunch specials include hot and sour soup — which was yummy. Overall, there wasn’t a dish that I didn’t enjoy. The filet was delicious, tender and was probably my stand out entrée. Don’t expect to be overly pampered with service here — but it is friendly, when you’re ready to pay — most of the patrons I noticed– go the counter. They do accept credit cards which I found a plus. Looking forward to checking out the Hainan Chicken and they also offer phở here– so I know I’m be returning soon.

I am very pleased by the food and the warm hospitality I have received here. Awesome place and super close to home. The portions here are much bigger in my opinion than what they were before when this place was«China Star» and I like the food better now. Ive been getting the orange chicken and kung pao chicken and they have been delicious.

Love that is so close to my house. In hacienda there is very limited Cantonese rest. China star has been there 18 years and I’m hoping cocoin can succeed and be here for a long time. When I get lazy and need some Cantonese Chinese food! I now have a go to place. I had the hainam chicken(on the less salty side) love the oil rice, kids love the chicken wings and so the tofu chicken anchovies goes good with rice! The look from the outside and seating areas can be a bit old school but must give their food a try.

Best hainan chicken around, maybe even better than savoy. These owners used to own Man Chan in Rowland heights, and I can only assume that the Wacow LA hainan chicken hype led to the sale of that restaurant. Now in Haicenda Heights, some of the familiar faces from before are still around, and the staple foods are still present. However, as the area is less Asian, there’s a bit of catering to the American interest with«lunch specials» that I haven’t tried, but the more business the better for them. The décor isn’t exactly new as the restaurant seems to be an acquisition of another chinese restaurant, so don’t get your expectations up with some fancy or modern tables and chairs. What you’re here for is the food and it is damn good.

This use to be a good place. Went in for dinner just me and the girlfriend and we were the only ones there. We sat down and waited about 10 minutes to be asked what we wanted to drink. Ok oh well no big deal. We order the wonton app. and they were terrible, pure frozen junk. The waitress asks what we want to order for the meal and we say couple more minutes please. We sat there for another 30 minutes and she never came back out. One of the cooks came out went outside, smoked a cigarette, looked at us(we saw us when we first walked in too) and yelled something to the back. We thought now she would come to take our order, well 10 minutes later and still no one comes out to take our order. Left $ 5 on the table for the wontons and walked out. Went to ocean 7 down the street and had a great dinner.

A couple of weeks ago, me and the missus were looking for good Hainan Chicken on Unilocal and other blogs. She came across someone strongly recommending Cocoin, So we decided to give it a try. It’s definitely a hole in the wall. Located at the inside corner of a shopping plaza, close to the Buddhist temple. Our first time there was last weekend, And we have been back 2 more times since. I can safely say Cocoin has one of the, if not the best Hainan Chicken in Southern Cali. The rice is definitely authentic Hainan chicken rice. The chicken cooked properly and perfectly. Juicy, tender and delicious. Portion is generous and consistent for all my visits so far. The staff was very friendly and attentive. Glad we found Cocoin, will definitely be coming back a lot.

Amazing food as always… Especially their orange chicken. So yammyy! The only thing I’m confused about is why they changed their name to Cocoin Kitchen? I actually was looking for their old business with was called China Star and it took me awhile to figure out until I saw it on their old Unilocal page that they have renamed their business to this one. Still the food is great and I will keep on coming here.

I found you! I absolutely love the food here. I was sad and starved myself for lunch when they moved. I followed them from Rowland to Hacienda Heights. My top 2 are the hainan chickens and shaken beef with red rice
