Every time my boyfriend and I stop for a combo po’ boy sandwich(fish and shrimp), deep fried pickles and a jambalaya. The staff is always super nice. The food is made to order and delicious! This stop we brought our own beers to enjoy(which was perfect to accompany our Cajun food!) and ordered the usual. Usually takes about 10 minutes to get our order. Food is brought out picnic style. The fried pickles and Cajun ranch are the reason we first ate at Dat Cajun Guy. I can’t resist a good fried pickle and this one has far surpassed any I’ve ever tried. The pickles are perfectly fried to a golden brown, hot and never soggy. The Cajun ranch adds the right amount of spicy. Their pO’boy is a shining star. The crisp fresh cabbage and spicy remoulade are a match made in heaven! I can’t get enough of this place! Yum yum!

best Southern food on the island since Kiss My Grits closed! they have excellent and friendly service, and their sweet tea is on point(free refills!). i’m one of those people who, once they find a menu item that they really like, doesn’t order anything else. but i’m slowly trying to work my way thru the menu. the New Orleans Style BBQ Shrimp is really where it’s at! this dish is so rich, and flavorful — my fiancé actually thinks it can get TOO flavorful! i can see where he’s coming from, but i figure that’s what the rice and french bread are there for(duh!). the shrimp is served either breaded or «naked» over a bed of rice. it’s then wonderfully smothered in a decadent gravy that’s making my mouth water just thinking about it! brace yourself for your first bite, because that gravy will really take you by surprise if you’re not ready. it really is so flavorful — the garlic, onion, worcestershire, and spices just make your taste buds want to dance! it’s served with several slices of french bread on the side so you can sop up all your leftover gravy. yummm! the Shrimp Po’ Boy is another winner. definitely a solid choice, and it’s my fiancé’s go-to. the remoulade sauce adds a nice bit of flavor that doesn’t overpower the shrimp, which is always perfectly breaded and cooked. they’re very generous with the amount of shrimp they put in the sandwich, and i haven’t been able to finish a whole sandwich by myself yet. we just tried the Buffalo Shrimp Po’ Boy, and my fiancé felt the spiciness overpowered all the other flavors. i kind of agree. we both really liked the flavor at first and felt that it was hot, but not too hot. after several more bites, the buffalo sauce and heat just kind of took over. i still enjoyed the heck out of it! if you like buffalo-spiced things, i think you’ll love this. just be sure to keep that sweet tea on hand because while the heat builds slowly, it gets pretty spicy toward the end. love the Fried Pickles! seriously, it’s breaded, deep fried pickles slices. can’t go wrong there!(unless you don’t like pickles.) the pickles are nice and briny. they’re coated with cornmeal(i think), and deep fried until the outside is just crispy. then served with a ranchy kind of dip! it’s a great appetizer! another good appetizer is the Sweet Potato Fries. golden, crispy, salty, and sweet! and what’s dessert without fried dough covered(COVERED!) in powdered sugar? their beignets weren’t the best i’ve ever had(and i’ll admit that i haven’t had all that many), but they’re still deep fried, covered in sugar, and tasty! so many of these reviews are raving about the beignets, so maybe we just didn’t get a great batch? they just weren’t as light and poufy as i’ve had before(these were actually quite puffy, but it was just a giant air bubble — nothing in the middle). i’ll definitely give these another try next time though — because powdered sugar.

This place has the best shrimp on island! The shrimp is so good and it is perfectly done! The iced tea is so good and it is the best sweet ice tea I’ve tasted ever! The fried pickles are so good too! I hate pickles and I don’t eat them but I tried these and I ate every single one of them!

Hands down the best fried pickle chips ever! When I first moved to the island 3 years ago this was the first food truck I ate at and have been a frequent customer since. The owner is a really cool down to earth guy. He even gave me some spices to take home and try on my first attempt at cooking crabs, which by the way made the dinner a hit with my friends. I don’t know what was mixed in that little container but I’ve never been able to duplicate that awesome Cajun flavor. I haven’t visited in a while after moving further out to Ewa Beach, but I still order the fried pickles when I’m in the area and they’re still the best on the island.

We ordered the fried shrimp po boy, jambalaya, fried okra, and beignets for dessert. Mmmmmmmmmmmmm!!! It was all so tasty. I finally found the yummiest fried okra in Hawaii!!! We will definitely come back to this food truck, and try the other foods. The food was fried perfectly; so, it wasn’t soggy. They are very busy, but still have great service and friendly workers. There are a couple picnic tables to eat at by their food truck. Parking can be a little coocoo because they share the lot/parking with other food trucks – but don’t let that stop you from trying this place out. We tried coming to this food truck a couple of times, but they weren’t here. After driving to Haleiwa, and not being able to locate their food truck, I finally had called #861−5567, and the recording said they were on vacation, and the other time it was there day off. We finally made it here, and I’m glad we did. So selfish of me, but I wished they opened a little earlier, stayed open longer on a couple days per week, and opened everyday(closed on Wednesday and Sunday). :)

No comprehensive review needed. The food was good, access was not an issue and the service was fine. The only issue I had was that they ran out of Gumbo. I got the Jambalaya as a consolation. The wait wasn’t too bad.

This place has a lot of great reviews, and it definitely lived up to the hype. We came in on a Thursday when they first opened. The owner actually sat down and talked to us, and the employees were very friendly. I had the«gumbalaya», which was gumbo with a scoop of jambalaya in the middle. I got the half size and it was very filling. I also had the okra and beignets, which were also delicious. My husband had the ghost pepper chicken po boy, which was a special, and red beans and rice. I tasted the po boy and it was the most flavorful one I’ve ever tasted.

This food truck is in the same plaza as Giovanni’s shrimp truck. My BF and I made a game plan to try both food truck so he came here and ordered shrimp po boy and fried oyster po boy sandwiches. They were both really good but our fave was the shrimp po boy! The hype is real people(you must try this place).

This lunch wagon’s fried pickles are the best I have ever had! I will frequent this place, just for the fried pickles every time I head up to the north shore. They were so good I ordered a second plate.

This Cajun food is by far the best on the island. We used to live close to New Orleans and so we were spoiled on authentic Cajun food. We’ve tried all the other Cajun restaurants in Oahu, but they all seem like surf and turf compared to this one. The service was amazing! The owner, Jordan, came by and greeted each one of the guests. I had the oyster Po Boy while my wife had fried catfish, shrimp, and jambalaya. Everything was cooked to perfection and the jambalaya was bursting with flavor. To top it off, they had refillable sweet tea. I cannot recommend this restaurant enough. We will come back for sure and bring our friends.

We were on the golf practice range at Leilehua Golf Course for a couple of hours this morning when my stomach started growling. In fact, the growl was so loud that my husband said he heard my stomach’s «GROOOONK» from the next stall over. He burst out laughing and asked how I could be hungry after having a huge breakfast. That was when I said«let’s pack it up and have lunch». Rather than return back into town, I suggested we drive«up da road» to Haleiwa to look for the food truck called«Dat Cajun Guy». Holy Tchoupitoulas! The Unilocal directions and location was indeed accurate as we found the site rather quickly. There are several other food trucks that share this lot so you might have some trouble squeezing in. The parking lot was sort of crowded but we managed to get a parking space nearby some picnic tables and under a large tree. This food truck is painted white and is distinguished by its name in red letters and a logo in the shape of the state of Louisiana. We rounded the food truck to its colorful order window and menu boards. They have a lot of NOLA specialties listed and it took us a few minutes before deciding on our meal. The young man who took our food orders was friendly and engaging. He confirmed that the owner of the business hailed from Louisiana and the recipes are authentic. We placed our orders and took a seat at one of the picnic tables. Within a few minutes, one of the workers came out and served us our food. We also ordered sweet iced teas to pair with our meals. As we dined, another worker came out to refill our iced teas and asked how we liked the food. THEFOOD: –Gumbalaya: I went«all in» and ordered a full order. This dish is a bowl of gumbo served with a generous scoop of Jambalaya instead of the traditional white rice. The chicken-sausage gumbo was«lovingly» seasoned with the typical Louisiana vegetable«Holy Trinity» and thickened with its dark roux. Tender chicken shreds, generous slices of Andouille sausage, tomatoes and tender cooked okra filled the bowl. A hearty scoop of Jamabalya(rice seasoned with Cajun seasonings, beef, chicken, pork and smoky sausage) was heaped into the stew. There was a slight kick of spice but not overwhelming. The flavors were reminiscent of NOLA’s Gumbo Shop but obviously NOT as elegant as K-Paul’s or Commander’s Palace. But, hey, it’s a food truck and I’m a fan! –Po’Boy: My husband chose the fried fish and asked for his sando to be fully dressed. Dressed means lettuce, tomato and«mynez» aka mayonnaise. The fried fish had a beautiful golden crisp crust while the flesh was tender, moist and flaky. I wasn’t sure if it was catfish fillets as I only took a small bite. My fried food eating husband gobbled down the sando although, he had originally said that he wasn’t hungry. While waiting, he noticed that fried oysters were another option and considered ordering them for the next time, if available. Oh, I noticed that they offer beignets but we didn’t order them. We were holding out for a couple of Snow Puffies from Paalaa Kai Bakery. Ah, but, there will always be another day as we plan on returning to try more of their specialties. #550

I feel like Ive discovered Hawaii’s best kept secret… and its Cajun/Creole food! After drooling over all of the pictures friends and other Unilocalers had posted, my friend and I had had it; we finally had a day off together and booked it to Dat Cajun Guy. Its located in Haleiwa, in the little«lot» where other food trucks congregate. There’s parking, but man does it get crowded with tourists. If you cant find parking, there is a road a little ways down that you can park at(which we ended up doing). It wasnt hard to spot the food truck since it was decorated so cutely with mardi gras beads and masks: D My friend and I opted for the Combo w/gumbalaya(which is a combo of the Jumbalaya and Gumbo) and the Shrimp Po(fried shrimp in a hoagie bun and cole slaw) but my friend got it with hot sauce. I also got the Sweet tea since I love teaaaaaa. OH. MY. LAWWWWWDDD. Everything was delicious. EVERYYTHINGGGGGG. The flavors of the the Gumbalaya was perfect and the shrimp in the Shrimp Po was fried to perfection with a great amount of cole slaw. And the Sweet tea was the perfect refreshment to go along with it(and it comes with free refills!) The Good: –THEFOOD: No joke. I’ve never been to Louisiana but man, I felt like I was transported there through the food. Everything was so tasty and flavorful! –Sweet Tea: Not too sweet, but still full flavor… with free refills! –Service: Super nice workers. They walk your food out, are really friendly and kept coming out to ask if I wanted a refill of my tea. I felt like I was in a restaurant. in fact, they had better service than some restaurants ive been to. The Bleh: –It does get quite busy, so be prepared to wait or find other seats –Parking: the parking lot gets really crowded and spaces are pretty tight –Prices: Pretty steep but honestly? Worth it. Treat yourself. TRANSPORTYOURSELFTOMARDIGRAS.

When I was on Oahu last week for work I found this place on Unilocal as I was driving around the island. Honestly I didn’t know what to expect while I was ordering but I was pleasantly surprised. I ordered the half New Orleans shrimp Po Boy and half jambalaya with a sweet tea. I also got an order of benieghts for the drive. Everything was so on point and delicious. The workers were all super friendly but the food is really what sold me. The jambalaya had just the right amount of kick and the shrimp po boy was so fresh and flavorful. A+ for everything

Dat Cajun Guy is an awesome Food Truck. The food is the most authentic(outside of someone’s home cooking) you’ll find in Hawaii. It’s convenient with parking and picnic-style seating, and the staff are super nice. Whenever I’m craving a taste of NOLA, I head to Haleiwa. I love the Gumbalaya which is a bowl of their tasty gumbo with a scoop of jambalaya. Their gumbo is full of chicken, sausage, and okra in a hearty, savory stew – the dark roux, the seasoning, it’s all on point. The jambalaya is full of tasty meats – pork, beef, and sausage – and the holy trinity, this is the Cajun response to gandule rice, totally flavor packed and delicious. If you’d rather have a sandwich, I love their Po’Boys. Try the Shrimp Po’Boy loaded. The hearty French bread and tender breaded shrimp go perfectly with the fresh veggies and remoulade sauce. You also gotta have a Sweet Tea which they’ll refill, then finish with the Beignets(and maybe bring your own Café Au Lait) for the full experience. Make the trip, you’ll be happy you stopped by.

There are about 10 food carts here all in a circle with parking in the middle. Parking is difficult, but there are ample places to eat once you find a place to park. I ordered the New Orleans BBQ style shrimp. I was so happy that the shrimp came peeled: as most food trucks here they do not! The shrimp can either be naked(unbreaded), or breaded. I order naked. It is served in a bowl with ample sauce and rice with a side of French bread for soaking up the rest of the sauce. The sauce was buttery, savory, a hint of spicy(when you got a pepper flake) and all around delicious. I would order it again in a heartbeat and recommend it to anyone. Talk about Southern hospitality! Even at a food truck! The owner can out from the truck, ask how our meal was and ask to refill my sweet tea. Wow!

Everyone talks about Giovannis shrimp truck, but I was more blown away by Dat Cajun Guy’s! A little more about dat Cajun guy: 1. He’s tall 2. He’s handsome 3. He’s really nice, helpful, and offers great service(for a food truck? That’s unheard of). 4. He cooks up the juiciest, freshest shrimp in Hawaii. After hearing countless people rave but Giovannis, we ordered their two most popular dishes — shrimp scampi and hot and spicy. While the flavor was indeed incredible — who doesn’t love a mouthful of butter and garlic? The quality of shrimp was actually better at Dat Cajun Guy. And I loved that there was no hurried hustle and bustle. The guy took his time making suggestions and even brings your food out to where you’re sitting when it’s done. Nice touch! The first thing I noticed was how fresh the shrimp was in our New Orleans style shrimp. Clearly fresh off the boat. No, not in a fobby way. In a clearly never-frozen way that leaves shrimp super tender and with a teeny tiny hint of sweetness. The shrimp was covered in a decadent cajun style BBQ sauce that had the consistency of hot gravy and served with 5 slices of French bread, and topped with white rice. I cut white bread entirely out of my diet but I still ate that soft French bread just so I could soak up that flavorful sauce. I couldn’t waste a single drop of it! It had a slight kick to it, and not from hot sauce, but from a perfect mixture of spices. So delish! I saw other people’s po boy sandwiches and fried fish and shrimp. Looked and smelled so good! I need to return just to try those next time.
