Oh good guy can my rockstar pick THE best places! He brought me a box hand selected assorted chocolates from here and I couldn’t believe my eyes OR mouth! I could even tell by the classy yet plain box that what was inside was going to be wonderful! My favorite was a peanut butter and chocolate ‘number’ that looked like a square of fudge. It was not fudge like at all — it was a 1″ x 1″ square of sin and delight! The chocolate was devine and peanut butter smooth yet had little hard bits(of sugar? or toffee?) in it. I could’ve eaten about 5 of them(really) but thankfully there was only one to keep me craving more! I ate the box in 3 days — my first choice was a giant dark chocolate peanut butter cup(are you sensing a theme?!) that was very very VERY good. I totally cheated on Reese! I also very much enjoyed the large dark chocolate individual cashews and very delightful caramels with large salt crumbs on top.(I was very vocal with every chocolate!) I’m going to have to put a bribe in to be taken here :) W O W ! ! !

There’s a lot of pressure when you are the first to review a business that you used to visit as a child, and still do many years later. Way back then this was a traditional card and gifts store, and I remember many times when my dad gave me a few bucks and forced me to go there to get a bday or mother’s day gift for mom. At some point in it’s history they added a small chocolate counter carrying good quality sweets. Eventually the counter turned into a wrap around case with a very good selection. And a few years ago a small ice cream parlor popped up here too. Said parlor carries Thomas Sweet brand ice cream, and makes shakes, sundaes, or any other concoction you could desire. However, as all these positive changes were happening, the card and gift selection kept getting smaller and smaller. I guess that is just a sign of the digital times. It seems that the card part of the store is just a homage to it’s past at this point. But so be it. Their candies, some of which are made by them, and the rest made by other small batch quality producers, are a bit of a tradition in this town now. They have become good choices for holiday or hostess gifts. i think it’s good that this business was able to change with the times, and even recreate itself. It gives me hope that if a business can do it, so too can people. I’m rounding up only slightly for old times sake. 4 bittersweet Unilocal
