Let me start off by saying WOW! What a find. This café apparently has been here for a long time and I have never knew it. I just drove passed it everyday. The food here is delicious! Homemade German food! HOMEMADE in case you missed it! We went when the restaurant opened for breakfast and we ordered a few different plates. First plate was Eggs bacon and potatoes that are very well seasoned. Next was French Toast and let me tell you The French Toast is AMAZING! Its made with homemade German bread its was lite and fluffy and ooo soo good! Then we got a order of Apple Pancakes and just wow! Your taste buds won’t know what hit them. The location has just been expanded and remodeled and when you walk in everyone is so nice and friendly and inviting! I would definitely recommend this location! Great food decent prices and good portions!

My boyfriend has told me about this place ever since I met him, this was over a year ago, and today we finally got to go! We both got Cuban sandwiches. Amazing. They are so delicious, juicy, and crispy. We also got a pretzel dog and white bratwurst to go with a side of fries, everything was perfect. My boyfriend also got a tarimisu to go and he loved it as well. The desserts were so beautifully presented. I cannot wait to go back and order more food. Hopefully one day, I can stop by for breakfast! I recommend this place to anyone who wants to try something tasty. They also have gluten free items!

The Jäger schnitzel was so good! Very good portions for price, and a complimentary dessert. They now serve beer and wine as well, we will certainly be back!

Came by this place on the recommendation of a co-worker. Located in a strip mall kinda plain inside but the people are super helpful and friendly. The food is great. The Cuban was wonderful. My dad had the gulasch which was like a pork stew he was funny saying they should serve seconds. Fries are homeade and nice. The gravy from the gulasch went well with them We took home some awesome pastries. Soo good! Will definitely be coming back here.

If you like authentic German food this is the place. I have been working on a project nearby and I eat lunch hear almost every day. Keeping that in mind I have tried almost everything on the menu. That sausage platter is my favorite. Everything is made to order from scratch. The desserts are to die for. Prices are very reasonable. And it is a very welcoming place. If you like German food and are in the Schaumburg, Hoffman estates area this has to be in your«must try» list!!!

I came for lunch the other day. I got some really tasty beef barley soup… really tasty. It was sort of weird that it was served in what reminded me of a hospital bowl minus the plastic cover. With that. I ordered a grilled cheese. Don’t do it :). I will go back but will order more authentic dishes to critique. I so could have ordered better.

Family owned and operated café offering baked goods and homemade German inspired dishes. I don’t eat desserts due to my diet, but their cookies, cakes and brownies are irresistible and taste just like how grandma used to make em. You can tell the owner puts a lot of love and care into her menu. –German dinner platters –Cakes –Cookies –Family owned = Great Service

Had the egg drop noodle and Kahlua Kuss(which means kiss in German) for lunch today at the Olde Salem Café. They serve«family recipes from Gernan Heritage». I’ve had their pastries before and they were delicious. They will be catering the jembalaya and kings cake at the Village’s Mardigras business networking event Feb 17 @5pm. Check it out on Old Salem circle in the shopping center east of the Long John silvers on Irving Park Rd.

This little café is a wonderful secret! My daughter eats here at least once a week. She turned me on to Olde Salem Café last summer. The food is DELICIOUS, the owners are charming, and when you walk in you feel like part of the family. I have absolutely loved everything I’ve eaten here! My husband is very picky about his food, so I wondered what he would think when I brought him here yesterday. We both ordered the puled pork meal… and we both LOVED it! The potato salad was genuine & he loved his fries!!! It’s too bad it is in a pretty secluded location. I am telling everyone that it is in the strip mall on the side of Long John Silver’s off of Irving Park Road in Hanover Park. Seriously, people, you have to try this place! You will be as hooked as we are!!!

This past summer, I learned about the Olde Salem Café at a farmers market. I think it was the Schaumburg one. Anyhow, I had the most wonderful brownies that day they had prepared and I knew I would have to visit their storefront soon. I was in the area looking for a quick bite to eat when I remembered they were nearby. I turned right where I thought they were and I was exactly right. They are located in a small strip mall directly across the street from Long John Silver’s. This is one of those«don’t judge a book by its cover» places. Literally. The window coverings are kinda haphazard and it looked dark inside, but the open sign was lit up and so I wandered in. While it was dark inside and a little chilly, it definitely smelled fantastic! And I was greeted by the sweetest lady. It took me a while to decide and while I was working through my options, she took multiple phone orders. Looks like they do a great carryout business for lunch! Then a couple came in to take a look. I quickly learned they had been here before and knew exactly what they wanted. There is a self serve refrigerated case in the front filled with brownies, tarts, homemade banana bread, zucchini bread, blueberry bread, streusel, cookies and beyond! They unloaded a bunch of items on the counter, paid and quickly took their sweet goodies to go. It was decision time. They make their own pretzel rolls. I absolutely had to try one. So I had a grilled chicken sandwich on a pretzel roll with fresh cut French fries. I also took home a yogurt fruit tart and a mini zucchini bread. Let’s break it down: The pretzel roll was actually shaped like a pretzel which was cute. But more importantly was how fresh, soft and tasty it was. This was a five star item! The grilled chicken was a little but like a chargrilled chicken and a bit too charred in some areas for me. But it was seasoned and juicy in the center, so it was still pretty good. The fresh cut fries were lightly salted, hot and greasy. Aren’t these the perfect adjectives for fresh cut fries? The yogurt tart was suggested by the sweet woman working there. I think it’s about five layers. A cookie layer, a thin layer of something like jam, a layer of sponge cake, the thick layer of yogurt that didn’t really taste just like yogurt but rather had a deeper thing going on there and a top layer kinda like jello but not. And the fruit. This was rich and creamy and awesome. Truly a five star item for me as well. I cannot comment on the mini zucchini bread yet because I haven’t dived in and it’s hibernating in my fridge at the moment. But it looks awesome and if it’s anything like the rest of the food, I’m guessing it will be another home run! Without a doubt, I will be stopping by again soon to try some more of their tasty treats and savory menu items.

I was not sure what to expect but I am glad I walked in. The food was good and it is all made fresh. I had the pull pork and my wife had the Italian beef both were good. The fries are made to order you can’t beat that. The location is the only down fall because it is easy to miss. If you know the area it is in the plaza next to the Long John Silvers off Irving Park Rd. The brownies were real good be sure to try them.
