Walked in and heard bam bam bam and German being spoken in the kitchen. I took that as a good sign. I ordered the schnitzel plate(more bam bam bam, as they flattened my cut of meat; the food was made to order, and tasted great. The only negative is that the place is exceedingly small. I can envision diners being frustrated… but I suggest you just order the meal to go. Not fancy, but worth a try if you are trying to escape from your normal Mexican-Burger-American-Pizza-Chinese-repeat cycle.

For this area the food is good. The place is small, and a bit out of the way but the food is good, schnitzel in particular is very good. Menu is small, but the building is so small I don’t think they would be able to handle a bigger menu. Hope they do well enough to get into a bigger space. I’ve only had the schnitzel and it was a tender piece of meat, fried good, gravy was awesome.

Great German food in a small package. This tiny, family run restaurant is full of German character and ambiance. The menu is spartan, but everything is well prepared, and inexpensive as well. This establishment does not serve alcohol. Again, Opa’s is small, with inside seating for fifteen or so patrons.

This place might be small but their jäger schnitzel is the bomb! The meal comes with 2 sides also so it will definitely fill you up! I’m not from around here but our family friends that lives in this area highly recommends this place and were so glad that they did it was a great last meal to have here in Texas.

This is a great, but small, hole in the wall joint. The restaurant has a great story and is run by friendly, German women. The food is great and well priced for the amount that you get. We got a few brats, which were delectable. I wouldn’t plan on bringing a large group because as I said it is a small space. There is some outside seating, but eating outside in the Texas heat during the summer will likely not be enjoyable. Either way, get in your vehicle and drive over right away to support these ladies, so they can keep making great, German food!

A little taste of Germany! The ladies who run this place are super sweet and can pump out Schnitzel and Wurst relatively fast! I never thought I’d crave Schnitzel so often but now that I’ve experienced theirs my husband and I can’t get enough! We go here at least once or twice a month and we never tire of the food!

I am truly all for supporting our local businesses but it’s kind of hard to support a restaurant that won’t even serve you. Extremely disappointed that we had to get up and leave after being told to have a seat(there’s only 5 tables in the tiny establishment and 4 were occupied) and then waiting 15 min with no greeting, no drink order, no I’ll be right with you… nothing. Very small menu so it’s not like we needed time to peruse and decide. It’s ok this story has a good ending. Oh we did leave but we were still able to support a local restaurant and still get German food that was really amazing… we drove to Zum Edelwiess on Edwards Dr. I don’t plan to go back to Opa’s where we definitely were not welcomed. Sad, based on the excellent reviews we’d been wanting to try this place for a long time but their hours are so weird. NOT a good first impression and now when people ask me my opinion about Opa’s this is what I’ll have to say and honestly I hate that, and trust me they’ll ask and I’ll tell.

Oh my goodness. This itty bitty place is FANTASTIC! I had the Jaegerschnitzel with home potatoes and green bean salad. The gravy, oh that gravy! Rich but not heavy, fresh, just amazing. And such a friendly, welcome home vibe! Go!

Popped in from out-of-town for some schnitzel. Avoid the soul-less chains in this town and go to Opa’s! This little place deserves all five stars. I like to split my review into three categories: food quality, cleanliness, service. For me, however, it is mostly about the food. Opa’s is a small restaurant with extremely friendly ladies cooking and waiting tables. The menu is limited only to items that are fantastic. I cannot address authenticity as I am not well experienced with German food. I can say that my friends and I ordered as many dishes as we could eat(Dinner plate aka Bratwurst, Zegeunerschnitzel and Jaegerschnitzel, iced coffee, german cheesecake). Side dishes come with the entrees we ordered. Don’t skip the spatzel. The sauerkraut was very tasty and had a lot of bacon in it. All of the items we had were fantastic, in a way that I cannot do in my own kitchen. I had the Zegeunerschnitzel(gypsy schnitzel). It was crispy and not too thin, the pork was still moist and well salted, and the paprika sauce was savory, tangy and had a very satisfying flavor. The food is made the way I like most, from scratch, with love. I also tried the cheesecake, more eggy than most cheesecakes(nothing like NY-style). While made mostly from eggs, the velvetty texture suggested delicate baking. Very delicious. Service-wise, both women were very upbeat and silly and seemed like the hard work of running a restaurant wasn’t getting in the way of having a good time. I didn’t get a chance to look at the bathroom(rule: clean bathroom suggest good food safety in the kitchen). The dining room was decorated with some german knick knacks and was cozy. Even though the place was full to the gills, it appeared clean. I should mention: They have shirts that say: «Food tastes so good, you’ll schnitzel your pants» It doesn’t get any funnier than that.

Great authentic German food at this cozy restaurant. The Wiener schnitzel, jaeger schnitzel, and bratwurst were all delicious! Super sweet and friendly service. We had seen it driving by before, and decided to stop in today. Glad we did, will definitely come back again!(Would have been 4.5 stars if A/C were working better)

As far as friendliness-everyone was very much so. BUT Who ever made the mushroom gravy today used a heavy hand with the salt shaker. Was very amazed that a rest would put that much salt in food when so many today are on low salt or no salt diets. Couldn’t eat but about ¼ of schnitzel, had to throw the rest away. Also purchased a slice of cheesecake — Sara Lee has a much better one in the freezer case. The sweet tea was good as was the cucumber salad. and rolls that came with the 2 meals.

My very first time eating German food and I was blown away how good it tasted. I’ve been to the resturant 2 times had almost everything there and I will continue to go back. Food was made fresh and that there is my 5 star rating. The service was amazing and the restaurant was so adorable. But, they need to get a bigger restaurant because, so many people was there to eat in the restaurant and no where to set. Great atmosphere and resturant. LOVEDIT!!!

Sorry for thjs this but I must say something. First let say I lived in Germany for 8 years. I was excited to see this place come p on Unilocal. So I tried it, I ordered a simple, schnitzel sandwich. The schnitzel was greasy(no guest house or street stand I have been to has ever served greasy schnitzel) the bread was not brouchen it was a hoggy roll an american hoggy roll. They had no curry catsup. I feel if place can’t do a simple schnitzel sandwich then the rest is not worth my time. I will say the ladies their were nice and the place looked Authentic but the food was not so good.

This is my first try here. I am German so I am probably more critical of German food. I ordered a Schnitzel sandwich and my friends orderd the cheese cake and coffee. My sandwich came with a choice of a roll or german ryebread. It was pretty good and I will be back… please remember that food is cooked to order, so it takes a little while, but it will hot and fresh ;-)

Fellow Unilocalers: Humble apologies for not taking pics of our meals, but it was THAT delicious — I completely forgot! Next time. We called in the order and my husband went to pick it up. He said the ladies were absolutely delightful, and the inside of this tiny establishment was lovely(so don’t be thrown off by the outside). This is absolutely the REALDEAL here, folks!!! Hands down, our favorite place for authentic, fresh German food! We shared two entrees of jagershnitzel(mushroom gravy) and the gypsy schnitzel(I don’t recall the German name for it, but it had the sauce with bell peppers). Mouthwatering DELICIOUSNESS, my fellow Unilocalers!!! For sides, we chose the cucumber salad(light, fresh, creamy herb dressing), hand-made spaetzel(noodles), and red cabbage(pickled). We also ordered off the kid’s menu: bratwurst(made in-house) on a roll and french fries(fresh and hot!). All of it was authentic yumminess, and thinking about this food to write this review is actually making my mouth water… Great place for a cozy, quiet date-night dinner with my hubby. :-)
