Was craving some bbq and met my friends in NYC to try it out. I’m from northern NY so am quite familiar with Dino BBQ. Food was just as tasty as I love their wings and fried green tomatoes! A nice array of beers on tap and loved the sampler. This is a very busy place so you can expect a wait. I expected this as even back home gets crowded quick. The only thing lacking was the allure and unique vibe of the Dino Bbqs from back home. This felt more chain like compared to the local fun small atmosphere of the original. Food was tasty and if I catch myself back in Harlem I’ll check it out again.

Dear Sir or Madam, I’m writing this letter because the last two visits to this establishment were not satisfactory. About a month ago I had placed a seamless order on a Friday, we were 3 people ordering a pick up order we were excited because we love the food ! but when I got to the restaurant they told me that they«didn’t do seamless anymore, and that’s a 3rd party and we are not responsible for it…» my jaw dropped are you kidding me? this is the first time that this has happen to me and I order on seamless weekly for 2 years… But the main reason why I am writing is because I had recommended this place to a friend. She went this past Saturday to celebrate her boyfriends birthday, she had ordered a simple hamburger and they messed up the order twice by the time she got her burger he was done with his lunch, according to her it wasn’t the waiter fault but the kitchens. He also got food poisoning from the food he ate there! so he had to spend the rest of his birthday in the toilet. This is not right! I hope you guys get your act together if you want repeat business I will be posting this on Unilocal as well. Thanks

This place is the best bbq joint in all of NYC no matter what anyone says believe the hype. Be prepared to wait especially in the evening time for dinner. The wait is about 45 minutes to an hour and the place is big. They have a great food selection and while you wait to be seated you can go to the bar and enjoy some great drinks. I really enjoyed their sampler dish loved the ribs must come back here for sure

Pretty good barbecue! I had the«Memphis chop» brisket sandwitch and found it tasty, and my dining companions enjoyed the pulled pork and ribs. Sides were good, but nothing to write home about. There was a good beer list, which made the long wait at the bar more bearable. The service was reasonably good. The bathrooms were pretty bad, though.

My main issue with this place was that for some reason, I forced myself to finish my meal which exceeded the capacity of my stomach. Otherwise, it was a great experience. We made reservations and arrived early. We went to the bar for a few drinks and were seated promptly at our reservation time. We ordered a few appetizers including garlic chipotle chicken wings, deviled eggs, and grilled shrimp. The wings in particularly were quite good. For my main, I had the 3 item combo, including the brisket, pulled pork and ribs. For sides, I had the mac and cheese and potato balls. The BBQ was solid and I had no complaints about them. The potato balls, however, weren’t anything to write home about. Everyone else seemed to enjoy them, though. Our server was friendly and the food came out at a reasonable pace. Overall, it was a solid meal. I would definitely come back in the future.

Great place to truly enjoy bbq ribs, sweet potatoes, collard greens, bbq rice … single servings are enough for 2 people … prices are extremely reasonable … the only downfall was service was a little slow as it gets packed with large groups. Staff is friendly. Definitely would recommend to others!

Weekend lunch isn’t super busy, but if you can, make a reservation anyway(better safe than sorry). Weekend dinner, expect a wait unless you made a reservation! FOOD — Food is usually quick. You have to get the ribs here! Usually, it’s consistently fall off the bone good! We have been here numerous times and there was only one time that the ribs disappointed(a bit dry and not fall off the bone good). The next best thing is the BBQ chicken. Even if you get the chicken breast, it’s super moist! Never disappoints! Pulled pork is pretty decent. The brisket can be a hit or miss, sometimes too dry because it’s not a semi-fatty slice. For sides, we like getting the collard greens and mac ‘n cheese. They typically have a special side of the day, Cajun corn. If they have it, I suggest getting it! Most dishes come with corn bread. If you have 4 or more, recommend getting the family meal. It’s a lot of food and you get to try everything. 4 stars for mostly consistent food.

A very solid BBQ option, everything done well but nothing exceptional. Tres Ninos: great deal with a sample of the 3 must haves at any bbq joint: ribs, brisket, pulled pork, includes two side and cornbread. Again, I’ll reiterate, for a bbq joint everything was solid and acceptable but I can’t say anything stood out. Wing: I usually don’t get them, but I’m quite glad I got these and for $ 3 extra, you get two side and cornbread… a steal. I only go the chipotle-garlic and by were some of the best wings I’ve had lately, burstin’ with flavor and SPICY. Sides: I tried the bbq fried rice, syracuse fried potatoes, beans, mac and cheese. And like the meats, all sides were solid but no standouts. OVERALL: best bbq option up north. everything good and less pricey than the downtown/bk joints.

AMBIANCE: rustic, dim, booths and/or tables, clean. LOCATION: easy access, by a subway line. Looked to be street parking SERVICE: good service, friendly, not as efficient as it could have been but we were not in any rush FOOD: I came for bbq so I tried their brisket, sausage, wings, mac&cheese, fried rice, and deviled eggs. They were all delicious. For NYC I was impressed. Not the best bbq I’ve ever had, but decent and would be a good craving choice. Deviled eggs were interesting and I would get them again since that was a unique item for a bbq place. The fried rice used bits of BBQ and was also good and interesting. PRICING: overall, the price matched the quality and service you receive. It was not overpriced and looks to be at a good field for all come and goers.

Come hungry or bring a spare stomach to fit all this extra meat :) because the portions are exactly as the name implies. Really good mac and cheese and the wings have that great wood flavor as expect from a bbq restaurant. Casual and fun for a bite after work. PROTIP: mac n cheese!

As I’ve said many times, I’m a BBQ snob with a strong bias towards Memphis style BBQ. However, these St. Louis style ribs were ridiculously good here!!! I’d heard from others that dinosaur had gone down in quality over the years after they’d expanded. So if this isn’t dinosaur at it’s best, I shudder to think how good it must have been back in the day. Since this is a top 2 rack of ribs I’ve ever eaten(#1 still corky’s for me in Memphis since I grew up with it). Food: Ribs(5⁄5). Amazingly flavorful and rich bark; tender literally fall-off-the-bone meat. Sauce: I particularly liked the spicy one; tasted a little too tomato-y for me at first. But then when I tried it with the ribs, I fell in love with it. Perfectly accentuates and enhances the meat flavor without overpowering it. Sides: Mac and cheese was great; baked beans were amazing; whipped sweet potatoes were the STAR of the sides; would NOT order the salted potatoes again(nothin special) Ambience and service: really good overall Pro tip: Fill out the survey on your receipt as soon as you get it, and then get a free bottle of sauce to go home with!!! Can’t stress how much I loved this food enough.

This place does the best Ribs and the best Mac&Cheese in the whole world. There’s always a queue but it’s worth the wait, and you can wait at the bar in the meantime. Plates are huge, maybe a bit big for my European taste but the food was so delicious I finished everything… and order desert.

deviled eggs as an appetizer is a must. their bbq baked beans are also on point. if you’re going to go, make sure to go hungry cause everything is good. though the mild wings were a slight disappointment. would definitely pass on the wings and go for something else. went during peak hours for dinner. so was a hit crowded and the service was a little slow, but other than that, not much to complain about.

Visited Dinosaur with a friend on a Sunday afternoon around 2:00 pm. The hostess told us there was a wait of about 20 – 30 minutes, but we could sit at the shared tables near the bar immediately. So, we did that. It took us a while to get menus and water, but that was because I only saw maybe two waitresses on the floor, and they were both hustling trying to cover some fourteen(?) tables. We still had access to the full menu in the side area, so we both ordered the ¼ rack of ribs with two sides and cornbread. The cornbread was pretty average, and the sides were not bad(the greens had citrus tang but the sweet potatoes were a little too mushy for my taste), but the ribs were very good, which I guess is what matters most being a barbecue restaurant. Dinosaur BBQ is the type of place I’d take my teenage brother. It’s got an Applebee’s/Chili’s type feel, which teenage brothers love, but it’s a step up in quality(you do still get that mass produced feel though…). In this scenario, the«sweetheart» platter is a great deal(full rack of ribs and four sides), about $ 15 per person. Not bad! I’ll give them a fourth star for catering because they do a great job with that. Went to a Superbowl Party that had Dinosaur on the table, and it was a real crowd pleaser.

I have reviewed this restaurant before, I’m not sure where it went, so here we are again. After sampling a lot of BBQ in NYC, Dinosaur is hands down my favorite. My go to dish is the Tres Ninos, where you get a portion of brisket, ribs & pulled pork. It’s a great size, not too big, plus you get to choose 2 sides as well. I have also tried the sandwiches and combos and the Tres Nino is the way to go. I have been here about 5 times at least in the past year and recommend it to friends. I have also visited the Brooklyn Dinosaur, but prefer Harlem. You can’t go wrong with the meat here. The brisket is tender, the pork juicy and the ribs meaty! Dinosaur is my benchmark to rate other BBQ& so far I have not found brisket as good anywhere else.

Review based on average of two visits. I made the initial trip based on glowing recommendations from friends. Upon arrival I realized how foolish I was not to make a reservation. It was Saturday evening and the place was packed! Since me and 2 other people had made the long trip, and there was nothing else in the area, we endured the hour and a half wait. The bar area was pretty good but had limited seating. Finally seated I couldn’t wait to dig in. Ordered the Sweetheart Deal for Two and was amazed at the size of the portions. The tray covered the entire table! The ribs were great but what was truly mesmerizing was the sweet potatoes. Best I’ve ever had. Place made an impression so my second trip here was to celebrate my graduation, so large group(12). Made a reservation of course and was seated fairly quickly(the no seating until the entire party is there irks me but a lot of other places do it as well). The food was great again and we received our orders in a reasonable time. The thing that bothered me was how we were rushed. We came around 4pm and the place wasn’t packed, in fact there were several empty tables. But just a few minutes after receiving our food the waitress brought us the check and kept hinting that we should be finishing up. I don’t think we took long at all and given the fact we were spending $ 400+ dollars, I thought it was rude to rush us off. This definitely soured the experience and has made me hesitant to return and what prevents me from giving a 5 start rating.

I’m glad such a spacious venue exists. Dinosaur’s has a lot of character. It made me feel like we were in another town. We came in one Sunday afternoon. It was busy, and they quoted us about a 30 minute wait, but we didn’t have to wait nearly that long. We started with the… High Octane Flight($ 7) — Dogfish Head IPA, KY Bourbon Barrel, Empire IPA, Bronx Pale Ale The BBQ plates include cornbread + 2 sides. The little cornbread muffins were okay, could be a little more moist. Tres Ninos($ 17) — petite sampling of brisket, ribs, and pork: The brisket was okay. The ribs were probably the best part, smoky and sweet. The pulled pork was slightly dry, but the sauce helped. Mac & Cheese: thick, a little dense Simmered Greens: I asked the waitress to describe the simmered greens and she said they’re like collard greens. They’re not bad, but oh so sour. BBQ Brisket & jalapenos & Smoked Hot Link(~$ 18): not bad. BBQ Fried Rice w/BBQ Meats: Fried rice wasn’t bad, but not particularly special. Mashed Sweet Potato: The sweet potato helped balance all the salty food. The food here is pretty decent. The prices are pretty good for the amount of food included in each plate. The service is pretty good. Everyone was hard-working and nice. I tried the Tres Ninos just to try the different meats. If I came back, I’d probably stick with the ribs. Depending on weather, you might want to take a nice walk along the water after your meal to walk it off.

Dinosaur Bar-B-Que is great. It’s even more impressive when you take into consideration one, the amount of visitors they have in an evening and, two, this is one of the very few places that serve proper BBQ in the tri-state area. The food here is really good, whether you get the ribs, brisket, or chicken you’ll be quite satisfied with the seasoning and sauces. Also, the sides aren’t anything to be ignored. The most authentic, imo, are the sweet potatoes. Room for improvement, the collard greens. Finally, drinks are pretty good but, like most places, they played it safe with the spiciness of their infused drinks, specifically the jalapeño margarita. The service is great, the staff is super attentive and always just around the corner to fill your drinks or take another order of mac’n’cheese. Also, great to come here in groups as the staff doesn’t have an issue splitting the bill.

Aside from the long wait to actually be seated, this place is definitely great! It was worth the wait. Once seated, the staff are quick to respond to you and your food comes out in a relatively expeditious amount of time. The rack of ribs…(drools like Homer Simpson). EXCELLENT! Make sure you plan ahead when trying to get a table because it fills up fast and you may have a wait ahead of you. But don’t let that stop you from going. If you like BBQ, you’ll like Dinosaur BBQ. Also, check out their signature sauce.

Awesome service & awesome BBQ! The beans were flavorful(coming from someone who isn’t a bean person). I am from Florida, and have travelled around the southern states, so the fact that I think this BBQ isn’t too shabby is saying a lot for this place. The pulled pork was juicy and the ribs had a sweet sauce spread all over them. The fact that they had deviled eggs as an appetizer almost won me over before I even tried the food. A pretty good place to check out!

What a great way to end a day wandering around Harlem. Dinosaur is a veritable Disneyland for carnivores. If you love good old fashioned BBQ meals and aren’t afraid to indulge a bit(OK, a lot), then I highly recommend a stop to this mecca of meat! The menu is a bit overwhelming, so it’s a good strategy to start by deciding what kind of meat you feel like. As a non-pork eater my options were decreased right away, and I went with the half chicken and brisket combo. I went with the salt potatoes and greens on the side, and also tried some of their baked beans. Everything was really tasty. Was it the best brisket I’ve ever had? Certainly not. The best BBQ chicken? No. But the meat was high quality and flavorful, and nothing was too overcooked. The sides were totally acceptable as well. The baked beans which I was so excited about turned out to be my least favorite, and I wished I had just gone all the way and gotten the mac and cheese or something else more decadent. For dessert we shared a key lime pie, which I have to say was a disappointment. Just a pile of custard more than a pie due to the sad lack of a substantial crust. At $ 5.50 I honestly expected more, both quantity and quality-wise. Would definitely return while in the area or if I get an uncontrollable BBQ craving. It definitely felt like an authentic spot with some real deal BBQ!

If you really like ribs, this is the place to go! it’s called Dinosaur BBQ and the one I went to was on West 125th Street. The ambiance of the restaurant is great. It’s huge and there are lots of old posters on the walls. The bathrooms are filled with graffiti(people over the years just writing their names on the walls for the most part). When I went there, it was very busy and about five birthdays were being celebrated. It is a bit pricey, but I would suggest going at least once. 10 out of 10 full rack of ribs! This is the closest thing to real southern comfort food.

The beef brisket was the best I have ever had at any restaurant establishment, it had the right amount of fat and tenderness. The ribs and fries were really great as well. Right outside the restaurant you could see firewood, which is what they use to fire up their bbq stove and to give all the foods that smoky flavor, and it certainly does. We came here on a tuesday evening around 7pm, without reservations, because they said all the reservation slots were full. I honestly thougbt we would wait a long time, but were seated in less than a minute. But for those that like the plan ahead, I would recommend making reservations just in case it gets crowded. Although we didn’t make reservations, the restaurant wasn’t empty, every table was filled. The staff and food were all excellent. I’ll definitely come back to dinosaur bbq.

Great atmosphere and awesome food. I had the honey bbq chicken wings and half a rack of ribs, together with bbq fried rice and carrot salad. The ribs were falling off the bone, so so good! The only food-related complaint I have is that the cornbread was a little dry, but the whole meal was still great. As for service, it was a little hard to catch the attention of our waitress, as this place is massive, and it was during peak dinner time. I came here at 8pm and had to wait for 30′ for a table for 2. I’d recommend making a reservation before coming; even though this place is huge, it fills up very quickly.

This place is awesome for those craving bar-b-que. I am forever grateful that the mobile concession stand turned restaurant in Syracuse made its way down to NYC. There is another location in Brooklyn(also great), but as a UES resident I find myself in this Harlem establishment more often. It is a well-known restaurant so expect crowds during peak hours(i.e. make a reservation in advance). My most recent visit was the afternoon of Veterans Day, and our party was seated immediately as walk-in guests. We came in hungry(highly recommended), as we just finished hiking Bear Mountain. I ordered the«pick three» combo, including St. Louis ribs, pulled pork, BBQ brisket, honey hush cornbread, BBQ beans, and mac & cheese. This is an absolute feast in itself. Our table also shared a plate of the jumbo BBQ chicken wings(wango tango sauce = unreal) and fried green tomatoes. Everything was delicious to a point where I consumed anything in front of me and was full for about 24 hours after the meal. The proverbial«food coma» immediately following the meal was also glorious. Check it out if you are hungry and love BBQ. I cannot wait to go back!

I give Dinosaur BBQ four stars. The reason they don’t get five is because of the lack of parking and our waitress. The food and atmosphere is nice. I had the rib and wing combo with two sides. Half rack of ribs, eight wings, mac n cheese, and potatoes(some style name i cant recall). Wife had the brisket with rice and whipped sweet potato. The food was good. My wings seemed smaller then the last time i visited but they didn’t lack in flavor with that wonderful wood burned smell. Dino BBQ is a nice place to gather with friends, reminince, and eat a hardy meal.

customer service: Last time I walked in and tried to get seated, they told us I had a 30 minute wait even though there were 10 free tables. Apparently those 10 tables were reserved. Given this, next time I knew to call ahead and make a reservation before coming in. 4 days before a planned birthday dinner for my grandparents, I called and they told me that they don’t take reservations. Confused, I figured the hostess was new. Called again the following day and they told me that I can make a reservation but the system was down. Even more wtf at this point. Called the day before the planned birthday dinner for my elderly grandparents and I’m told that I can’t make a reservation and that its first come, first serve. Arrived on the day of, they asked if I had a reservation. I said that I called multiple times and they said I should’ve called a week prior. Why didn’t any hostess mention this on the phone? I’ve been waiting for over 1 hour for a party of 7 and my poor grandparents are just sitting here starving. I feel so bad for them. All of this could’ve been avoided had the hostess been more clear with me over the phone. I would’ve made a reservation for the following week.

Having heard about Dinosaur Bar-B-Que for several years from my aunt(a Queens native) — I finally had the opportunity to step foot into their NY brick and motor location for a late lunch as Mark C and I were heading out of the city. Got there easily by train from Columbus Circle — which was good thing as when we exited the train there was a lot of construction and no parking to be seen. We let our noses do the walking and proceeded to have no problem finding the restaurant and since it was after the lunch rush, we headed to the bar area. Our waitress/bartender set us up with drinks and a menu, engaged us in a bit of chit chat about the marathon I ran in the day before, and left us to the task at hand — ordering. Mark C and I basically ordered the same meal — 3 meat combo(Ribs/Chicken/Brisket) with 2 sides(Baked Beans/Mac & Cheese). We enjoyed watching what appeared to be some regulars and in no time our meals were brought out, which I was glad to see considering we were the only ones eating. Our meals were piping hot but unfortunately the quantity and more so the quality of the meal was hit or miss. Hits — the pork ribs, chicken and ½ the mac & cheese. Those meats were both moist, flavorful with a bit of a kick. Those meats did not need that much of the complimentary BBQ sauce available for dipping. Now I say ½ the mac & cheese was good because it was SO, SO cheesy and honestly all that cheese made it heavy and towards the end it felt like I was eating a block of Velveeta cheese. Now the misses — and I hate to say this — was the brisket which was so fatty that I pretty much ate a 2 meat combo in the end, the baked beans — which I think had jalapeño in them(and should have been indicated on the menu), and sadly the honey hush puppies which were cold, stale and only remedied by dipping in the BBQ sauce on the table. And all this was mine for a pretty steep price that in the end I could only justify by saying«At least I can now say I tried it». For those looking for their BBQ fix — this is a pretty average place. To those that say this is the«Best BBQ in the NYC area» — I think they should keep searching.

Dinosaur BBQ is, hands-down, one of the best BBQ spots I’ve had the pleasure of eating in NYC!!! I had heard about Dinosaur but never ventured. It was Sunday evening and there was a short wait which was fine because we ended up having drinks at the bar while we waited. The décor includes a unique and varied aesthetic. One of my favorite illustrations of this was a vintage Billie Holiday bill located on a wall. The place was packed which is indicative of how good the food is at Dinosaur. All of the food was delicious(I mean lick your fingers one at a time delicious) but one of the main standouts was the BBQ Chicken wings. They were incredible! I’ve had a lot of BBQ in my lifetime but the sauce on these wings were magic! The deviled eggs were the bomb as well as the macaroni and cheese. Haven’t been this excited about a place in a while! I’ll DEFINITELY be adding this spot among my list of Harlem gems! Looking forward to checking out the other locations as well but I’m glad my initial entrée to Dinosaur was Uptown! Get thee involved!

Have always wanted to come here, but last nights visit was totally unplanned! Was detouring through Harlem on the way home and passed it, good thing there was parking lot directly next door because I knew I needed to get dinner there! Clearly there’s a love for this place– it had a 20min wait on a Wed night. My roommate and I grabbed a beer at the bar(awesome local draft selection) and were seated shortly. We ordered– swag platter for 2, the tres ninos platter and the chicken/ribs combo platter. We got sides of BBQ fried rice and Mac and cheese. Everything was sooo flavorful! Swag platter highlights were wings(chipotle garlic) and fried green tomatoes. Ribs were fall off the bone and brisket on tres Ninos platter was also a highlight. The BBQ friend rice was unlike any fried rice I’ve had. Seriously I woke up craving it this morning. My single complaint is that the cornbread was very underwhelming. Can’t wait to come back.

Egal was man bestellt, überall diese BBQ Sauce.

Heard about this place for a long time, but never could make the long trip up to Harlem. Finally did and I enjoyed it. I ordered the quarter ribs with sweet potato and fried rice sides. Ribs were delicious, soft and peeled right off the bone, BBQ sauce was perfect. The sides total disappointment– sweet potato was wet mushy like baby food and their popular rice was ok. Overall glad I tried it out at least once but would not go back

I don’t know what happened to this place the service was excellent but the food was very disappointing it used to be way better plus with all the construction going on outside and made it almost impossible to park so I had to pay $ 13 in a parking lot no bueno
