tl;dr: Got sold the wrong shoes, made my issues worse. So. I’ll just start with the story, I guess? Back like, I dunno, last year some time I switched up shoes to try and get some better ventilation(I have sweaty feet, for real) and at the same time started running in earnest to lose some weight. I started to notice some nagging pain on the outside of my right foot. I tried altering my form, taping, icing, and everyone said«Oh, you need to go into a store and have them do an analysis and get you the correct shoe.» So I did, in February I went to The Runner’s Corner. Now, the selection in there was good, and it had a nice atmosphere and the young man(college age) working the store seemed very nice. I explained my situation(and my pain), and he looked at my barefoot walking stride, then had me run on the treadmill in the store. He pronounced me an overpronator, and gave me a control shoe. I ran on the treadmill with it, it felt like a shoe, you know? Well, I lost 25 pounds but my pain got worse.(again, pain on the OUTSIDE of my foot, not the inside) After six months, I figured it was time for new shoes, but I really needed to talk to a pro. I went to a dr, explained my issues, and he asked who told me I was an overpronator? He(the Dr.) looked at my «everyday» shoes, showed me the wear on the outside edge(not towards the arch, as you might see with an overpronator) and said I needed a neutral running shoe, and that the control shoe I’d been using had been forcing my foot to the lateral side, exacerbating my pain. He said that pain on the lateral side of the foot isn’t really typical of an overpronator, that he’d expect more arch and inside leg problems, rather than what I was experiencing. Look, everyone makes mistakes. But this is WHY you go to the running store and not buy online or at Super Shoes or whatever… for expert advice. And in this case, I was given a 100+ dollar pair of shoes that simply made my issues worse.
