I called to speak to someone about their rates for a closing in Long Island. They transferred me to a young man who works there. He then proceeded to tell me he works with one of the lawyers and they charge $ 1250 plus any other expenses you may incur including but not limited to mailings etc. I explained to him that before I moved forward I would be calling a few other lawyers to get their rates and he assured me that they wouldn’t be the cheapest, but they do thousands of closings, so their reputation speaks for itself. I was offended by his response and to be honest — I found a wonderful lawyer who is working with me for less than 50% of their«going» rate. This to me seems like a lawyer taking advantage of an uneducated consumer. Just wanted all of you to know that if you need a good lawyer for a closing — contact me and I can send you someone who is professional and available by cell without the extravagant fees. Moral of this story: Treat your customers or potential customers with respect. If you take advantage of people, your reputation has the potential of getting tarnished. It’s about quality — not quantity, but the going rate for a closing attorney is $ 500-$ 1000 — if you are paying more, you are either really rich and have no value for money or you are being cheated.
