SOOO apparently caspers closes at 6? either they need to update their hours or Unilocal needs to because at 6:15 i walked in and the woman told me they close at 6& didnt help me out and there was someone else in there and the doors were still opened.

I gotta say that my first review was a review about Caspers hot dogs in general. Best hot dogs ever in the bay. Hands down. Always will be. This spot in Hayward, in particular, gets 1 star, simply for service, and not letting Unilocal know that they close at «6PM!!» According to the middle aged woman inside while helping out two other people. I’m pretty sure those were people she knew, because why else would they be getting special treatment after work hours? Not really ok to be misleading people in their time of closing. But, the other caspers, on foothill, stays open way later. Guess they aren’t afraid to work a little longer.

Hung up on me 3 times. When someone did answer she said they don’t take to-go orders. Huh? Is that right? Or did she just not want todo her job?

It is a done deal. This particular location IS my favorite place to grab a d-a-w-g! With many, if not all of the Kasper’s with a «K» closed down, I’ve more than willingly, settled on this location with the«C». And it is on «C» street, how convenient! Things I love: –Super old school. Not trying to be retro at all, it just remained that way… all them years. It is so old school that I always feel like lighting up a ciggy after my dawg… and I quit smoking yeeeeeaaaaarrrrrs ago. –Horse shoe shaped counter bar, so classic. –Love the building itself, they just don’t make them like this anymore. –Kinda love how there is no kim chee, chipotle mayo or sririacha to cover up a dog. Uh-murica dawg gone it! –Love how I can curb side park, get in, grub and get back on the road. Super efficient. –Service is efficient. Usually one to take orders/handle money and another to whip out dogs. –Still my favorite, basic, no frills quality dog. Steamed and simple and perfect. Kraut and mustard requisite for me. 6 bucks gets you a combo with chips and a soda. I try and not do a whole lot of junk food, BUT when I do… Casper’s on C St. is where it is done!

I ordered the hot link with all the fixings and sauerkraut. It left my mouth on fire in an excellent way. Combo meal was about $ 7 bucks but well worth, the stop as I was headed back onto 580 east.

Very disappointed in this place. Literally just drove in to the parking lot with a woman flipping the closed sign at 630 even though everywhere posted they’re open til 7. when I looked at her and asked what’s up she just mouthed we’re closed. Pretty sappy and wondering how they’re still in business. It’s no wonder Castro Valley and union city have better restaurant business. the restaurants in Hayward run their own hours, don’t care about their clients and don’t even want to stay open when clients are trying to come in during scheduled hours. so of course I’m headed over to Castro Valley to spend my money there where they actually want my business and stay open.

Been eating at Caspars for over 50 years. Started in San Pablo and Richmond. These dogs have the same snap that they had 50 years ago. Best hot dogs in the Bay Area

Came here yesterday afternoon the service and food was wonderful! I ordered a Casper dog and a strawberry milkshake and my boyfriend had a Casper dog combo. Everything was so delicious. Will definitely be back to try other items on the menu!

Came here after the Double IPA festival at the Bistro. Wow, there is just something good about a couple of hot dogs after an afternoon of sampling some of the finest brews around. The gals working there were quick and funny. We all were having a good time. Nice job folks.

My first Caspers was 1954 – 5. They were a foot long then. The price was 20¢ in 1959. The C street location is where we got them. The tomatoes were cut into thick wedges compared to now. The dogs stuck out 2 inches from each end of the bun. The garlic in them is awesome. At the Bahnhoff in Frankfurt AM/Main, Germany, there was stand selling wurst and beer. The sausages were essentially identical to the Caspers back home. This was 1967. They were just delicious! The taste of the hot dogs remain the same but they are much smaller now and they don’t come 5 for a dollar these days. The C street location is a Hayward tradition.

My Husband and I are Hayward Locals, born and raised. Today we figured we would eat at the«original» Caspers on Cst in downtown,(early dinner about 4pm). In my opinion it was a waste of money. We both ordered casper dogs, his with cheese and mine without. We expected our dog to at least be warm, but they we not, kinda Like they sat in lukewarm water all day, definitely not fresh. In my opinion a little over priced for a glorified hot dog,(have to pay extra for tomatoes and they give you 1!) All together for two Casper dogs, a drink and small bag of chips was $ 10.44 which isn’t to bad i guess, but the food could have been much better, especially because they have always had such a good reputation. There was two women working, and older heavier set woman and a younger woman with curly hair. The older lady begun to take our order from my husband, everytime he tried to order she looked off almost like she spaced out, then would rudely ask my husband to repeat himself like it was his fault the order was taking so long. This happened FOUR times before she finally was able to take the order and prepare our hot dogs, which literally took two minutes so i don’t see what the problem was to begin with. Then she forgot to enter our order into the register and the curly hair girl working had to stop what she was doing just ring us up, and once again we had to repeat our order. Before leaving we asked the older woman for a refill on our soda and if she can dump out some ice(the cup was pretty much full of ice) she was so rude about it! And If that wasn’t enough of a poor display of customer service, there was two gentlemen sitting at the counter next to us who left a few minutes before we did. That grumpy old woman started complaining about the mess the guys left(it was like an small piece of onion and some cheese, it was nothing much, really.) She just blatantly doesn’t care about her job, the customers or anything, She is not friendly at all and should not be working in customer service. The counter should be wiped regardless after someone has eaten there… DUH. Most likely will not eat here again.

Love Caspers … this one is a little hole in the wall the little older ladies that work there are simply sweet as pie… as my husband said was like having his mom fix his lunch… he created a new dog«everything minus the kitchen sink» and it really did have everything but the sink

Okay good hot dogs but customer service is ridiculous here. The old ass short lady need to really retire and give this up. Customer service from her is obsolete. She must be def! They need to get rid od her and keep the younger guy that works there. Duuuh.

Really the service wasn’t very pleasant and the food was ridiculous I ordered a chill cheese dog and it wasn’t very good it was over done with chill and not too delious either barley Even edible. So I don’t really have much of a good taste from them now.

Great hot dogs that are simple and delicious. Steamed buns and the dogs themselves make for a great texture when eating… They have that snappiness that hot dogs should have. Not much else to say really… simplicity at it’s finest.

Caspar’s has been my fav since i started eating them a s a youngster at a place near the tribune tower in downtown oaktown. maybe it wasn’t a caspars franchise but it was made the caspar way sampling: caspar dog(2.89) –large onion slices, tomato slices, relish, mustard, salt & pepper on a warmed(by steam) wonder bread hot dog bun. *dog had a crunch when you bit into it. meat tastes a little sweet, not juicy. sad the usual accompaniments of soda and chips are healthy items. fwiw, dogs aren’t that healthy either… good service at this locale, parking in back.
