Lawson Drayage

How many riggers does it take to move a Vertical VMC machine? If your dealing with Lawson Drayage, it could be more than expected. In my particular case two people to drive a partially loaded flatbed semi truck with my machine on it; from an originating warehouse and a separate truck used to drive the forklift to the machine installation site. I wouldn’t have had a problem with it if it were necessary but in this case the third guy simply backed off a forklift from his truck and gave it to his co-​workers to use. I generally would not have a problem with that until I realized, I was charged an extra $ 110 per hour for 10 hours worth of work for a guy to drop off a forklift. This makes absolutely no sense considering the fork lift easily would have fit on the truck with the machine on it. I got the feeling they were raking us over the coals. The guys which moved the machine were good riggers and knew what they were doing. The people in the front office are a bunch of idiots who have no clue on how to logistically plan a simple job. It seems they had no interest in trying to keep a good paying customer happy. What ever you do… Do Not Hire this company unless you do not mind getting gouged. The easiest way to describe this company verbally is incompetence at its finest. Machine shops beware! Use this company at your own risk.

It just occurred to me that I should Unilocal these guys for all the work they’ve done for me all these years. You’ve probably seen their blue and white semi-​trucks on the freeway, loaded up with a huge forklift and somebodies equipment. These guys are THE pros in moving large items — machines mainly — from one location to the next. I’ve used them for two other specialty tasks. Our internal team was disassemblying a large cleanroom when one of the pieces came loose and fell on the head of one of our guys. Took him to the hospital and now had a removal task that needed to be completed by the next day. Lawson came out the next day with a team and trucks, disassembled and moved everything and stacked it in our building ready to assemble. Another jow was where I had some obnoxiously heavy and awkward items (blue lab benches, leaded doors for x-​ray labs, etc) that needed to be removed from rooms on one side of the large/​long building and moved (a long way) to another section of the building. They came out with two guys, a truck, a forklift… had everything knocked out in 4 hours, including other things I didn’t realize should go, but went because they were going so efficiently.
Can’t recommend them enough.
