Jimmys Old Town Tavern

In DC for vacation, found this place on Unilocal.Awesome drink, awesome food. We loved the loud, party like energetic atmosphere. And the heart of the party is definitely the owner, Jimmy. Our waitress was awesome too.

Food tasted great and the service was awesome! Very friendly environment with cold brews and flavorful food!

Ok, so… I’ve been meaning to try this place after it constantly popping up in my searches in the Herndon area. It just never looked appealing to me from the street/​road, and hence i’ve avoided it. Its literally looks like an oldtime saloon,.
Nonetheless, I decided to come try with a buddy finally. We ordered the onion rings, the wings with BBQ and hot, and the chicken musroom pierogis and the philly cheesesteak.
All were really good!!!
So why the three stars?
Welp…i seriously cannot give something 4 or 5 stars that I literally feel like will give you a coronary. Most places these days at least attempt to be somewhat cognizant of nutrition health, by reducing portions, or cutting back on grease and fatty goodness,…but not this place.
megapiled philly cheesesteak, massive onion rings, and pierogis fried for days.
Don’t get me wrong,.i’m conflicted because it was good, but i feel like eating there i won’t live long enough to become a regular.
nice to go once in a blue moon, maybe on a cheat day when you need fried battered meaty something or other, but any other time, i’d advise, and so would your doctor, to stay away lol.
BTW — SERVICE was EXCELLENT!!! Thanks to our wonderful server guy (I wish I caught your name, but it was last monday during lunch, you were awesome!!!)
Will i go back? Yes. But not soon. Arteries still declogging.

Still one of my favorites! Food is always good and they have the best chili. Staff is always on point and friendly.

We tried Jimmy’s and enjoyed our meals. We ordered the Philly Steak and the beef on weck. The beef on weck was good but the real winner was the Philly Steak that was served hot and loaded with meat. We definitely will be back!

Although I haven’t been back in awhile, this place has some pretty good wings. Not only are the wings good, I also had the salmon dinner with green beans and rice, which was a 10 star quality dinner.
Parking is a bit tight but the food and the staff makes it all worth it.

I decided to give this place a try with my roommate after I found them through the United dinning program (which, if you are a member, you’ll earn miles for dinning here). Close by in Herndon and with great reviews, it seemed like a great place to check out.
The location is ok, finding parking can be difficult though if things are busy in the historic part of town. The building definitely has a good charm to it, it’s old, but not unpleasant. You can tell there’s been a lot of history in this place. The atmosphere is great, you can tell there’s a lot of locals that have been coming here for years and the place was hopping when we got there, always good signs!
They had live music that was just a tad bit too loud (was a bit difficult to talk to my roommate without raising out voices) but was fine. They have TVs with sports on. It appears this place is a Buffalo, NY sports bar (the family that owns it is from that area).
Being on a low carb diet right now, I looked over the whole menu and was able to find a few dishes that fit what I was looking for. No problems having my rice and fries substituted for green beans and asparagus. The jerk chicken was great, blackened just right and still juicy with a decent kick that wasn’t overwhelming. My roommate liked his steak and cheese (which was huge!) and he brought the rest home. They have Poutine on the menu if you’ve ever wanted to try this Canadian snack! Happy hour was very decently priced as well.
The service was excellent! There was only one waitress serving the entire downstairs section, but she was very attentive and quick. Very pleased overall and this will likely become my go to United miles dinning destination!

If you enjoy local bars you’ll like this place. It reminded me of Cheers where everybody knows your name (if you’re a regular) and they’re always glad you came. I had the grilled cheese which is a dish they’re known for and it was ok. I expected the cheese to be more melty and the bread to be a little thinner.
They show a lot of sport games on their TVs and they had a DJ when I went (on a Saturday). My guess is the DJ is for all the kids to dance. The place was more family friendly than I expected.

Jimmys is overall a good bar with solid food, drinks and service. The waiter that served our group of 10 was very efficient and accommodating. The food took a little longer to come out but everything was pretty good. He even split the checks for all of us without cringing.
However, Jimmys isn’t a place I’d come back to very often since it’s kind of worn down, parking is annoying and the service didn’t blow me away. And another strike is that they don’t hand out moist towelettes with wings. The food is good and all but I prefer Glory days/​Bdubs over Jimmys. The food is just as good (or dare I say better) and the prices are lower. To each their own I suppose!

Beautiful Easter Saturday… Great eats at Jimmy’s Tavern. Had a Guinness and a wrek. Good fries and tasty beef.

Reminds me of home (Buffalo, NY)!!! Probably because the owners are from there. The food is great, the beer is cold, and the hospitality is awesome! Great old fashioned corner bar and grill!
This was our first time here but we will definitely be back!

Wow, fun place. Great bartenders. Chicken stew is outstanding. Food was good. Energetic atmosphere. Still haven’t gotten a straight answer about the guy wearing the helmet. He’s a waiter.

Great atmosphere, delicious food, cold beer, who could ask for more?
Well, you actually do get more, because the people are incredibly friendly and they have multiple events a week. It has a very lived in and welcoming feel, like a true hometown bar. It’s split level, so there’s a slightly more secluded (and quieter) dining area if you’re there for the food with group.

Here’s my four stars, because Jimmy’s has a very special commitment to the town of Herndon, and because they were open during the Blizzard 2016.
Been there a few times now since I live down the street.
The interior is very old and quite beat. A bunch of biker photos and patriotic stuff on the walls… not so much my thing. But I like that this is a place where the community could meet up during the snow days.
The food is so-​so. They could use better quality ingredients for their burgers and other foods. It’s nothing special, but hey — it’s a simple bar.
The service is always nice, but not the fastest. They worked especially hard during the snow days.
I think Jimmy will survive if the town gets better bars when the Metro comes in, because Jimmy has its loyal fans that will stick with him. I wish the place could be a bit more cool, but I love their commitment to the town.

If I could give ten stars for service I would!
Yup!!! We got almost 3 feet of snow and shops, restaurants, markets are closed for the entire weekend! However we have one strong shining gem that stands true to its heritage! Jimmy’s a true neighborhood pub shines it’s beacon and is OPEN! Jimmy is Buffalo, NY bred and his staff are all stars as well! Our server was Kelliann and from the start to when we finally left was upbeat, fun and professional! It’s a true local pub where you feel welcome.
We dined on a couple yummy appetizers like the spinach artichoke dip which was creamy and held its warmth throughout and a side of fries– I LOVE their fries. They keep the skin on and fry lightly till they hold a golden crisp. The drinks came quickly and we had a blast!

I called Jimmy’s this past weekend for a table for seven and was told no problem. When i showed up with four adults and four toddlers (my mistake), I am sure they were less than thrilled. However, you couldn’t tell by the service we got. Not only did our host/​waiter help get all the high-​chairs situated, he was quick to get cold beers for the adults and milk for the kids in awesome kid friendly cups. Even better, someone else brought over coloring books and crayons for the kids.
This wasn’t our first time here, we knew the service was good, but didn’t know it could be that good. Everyone was super friendly and helpful, and didn’t make it seem like were a hassle (though I am sure we were). It was a great relief to all of us, particularly as the meal ended close to nap time (read: cranky, irritable, loud toddlers).
Outside of service, food was AWESOME (as always). Across the group, we got a Beef on Weck, Philly Cheese Steak, Reuben, Hot Dogs, Chicken Fingers, and a Portabello wrap. The only leftovers we had were a couple of french fries. It was all so delicious. My wife and I will be coming back here on a regular basis. The place is the best.

I choose to Jimmy’s with based on the positive Unilocal reviews it had received for an early lunch on 11÷1÷15. I am happy to report what some other Unilocalers have commented on is true.
I thought the service was fantastic at this restaurant (from the moment we entered the somewhat empty restaurant we were greeted and paid attention to).
I had the veggie wrap. Although not fantastic, considering (it is apparent from when you enter Jimmy’s) their main business is the bar; it was better than what I expected.
In a nutshell, Jimmy’s is a solid choice for lunch if you’re in the historic area of Herndon, VA.

What a great find in the heart of Herndon. Jimmy’s is great for sports, drinks and even family friendly! It’s a fun locally owned restaurant that serves delicious food. Service is good, but can be slow at times. The menu is simple but a good variety from Poutine, Salads, Ribs, Chili Mac, Salmon and Sandwiches.
~Wings are lightly fried, the medium sauce has a nice kick at the end. Wings were a good size and definitely a good portion. Gotta try em!
~Poutine has to be my favorite here. Small cheese curds and the gravy is just perfect, not too salty, not too heavy. Very flavorful! The fries also helped because it’s fresh cut potatoes and you can tell. Delish!
~Homemade chili is hearty with tender beef, not overbearing of beans (which I like) and loaded with cheese on top. So flavorful and well seasoned.
~Fish fry is my second favorite. I believe it’s only on Fridays after 4 pm. It’s lightly fried, dipped in beer batter with fresh haddock, kielbasa and pierogis. Can’t go wrong with it. Huge portion too, well worth it.
~BBQ ribs are fall off the bone goodness. Can’t get any better than that. Also the BBQ sauce is drinkable. Ha!
~Bread pudding is homemade with vanilla and raisins. All I’m gonna say is ask for Captain Morgan rum sauce.
Overall affordable prices, amazing food with large portions. Great for families, couples or just a place to hang out with your friends. If you want to enjoy a very laid back and relaxing time you should come here!

We were in town because my cousin had a long layover at Dulles and saw this place had great reviews. The place was in a residential area and seemed to be a neighborhood joint.
The food was really good. My sister ordered the suicidal wings and while we didn’t have to talk her off a ledge (lol) the girl was sweating balls.
They gave my cousin a super hard time bc of his international ID and he had to go back to the hotel to get his passport! The manager actually gave our party a round on the house.
Everyone we encountered was super welcoming. Every staff member was super kind to us and made us feel like regulars. The service was impeccable and our waiter Mitch was honestly the best. He was so respectful and took excellent care of us! I would definitely recommend if in the area!
