Jak’s Shack – Fish and Fried Chicken

Went here for the first time. Greeted at the door by a nice young lady. She asked me where did I want to sit. There were only 4 people there and they were sitting on top of each other. I said can I sit in a booth? In the back ground the older waitress said” I don’t know why he wants to sit over there in a booth.” Then the older came over and started complaining to me about having to walk too far. Then she made negative comments about having to refill my glass with tea. Now for the food… chicken tenders were tasty and hot, fries were cold, mac and cheese elbows were burnt as was the cheese, biscuit was hard and cold and the tea was watery. I will not be going back!

Three trips there. All positive experiences. Friendly and quick service. Good food. Not expensive. Seemed clean. Men’s room a little on the scary side. Try the fried green beans as an appetizer. Really unique and very tasty. Salad was fresh lettuce. Not skimpy with portions, but not excessive. Will go again and will take friends.

Fresh, good portion size, affordable. Only suggestion is that the cook cover inside of top bun with coleslaw… not just a «dab» in the center of bun

Excellent cat fish! It’s American farm raised and delicious. Love the way the food is served. My husband had the fried chicken and loved it. Staff is accommodating. I’m giving it 5 stars for the freshness and taste for the price.

never been there (and I have been at least 5 times) that the food was not of the best quality and service was super!

If you have ever eaten Lee’s Famous Recipe Fried chicken, then you may be familiar with this version of fried chicken. (I personally enjoyed it, this is simply a reference point.)
The staff will greet you at the door, wisk you to a table and hand you a simple menu, that keeps its focus on doing those items to the best of their ability…
In keeping with a lower cost dining experience, all food is served from Styrofoam, not that there’s anything wrong with that…
An item that is particularly important to me is that I can order a fresh salad at a restaurant. I had avoided that on my visit, since I was most interested in having fried fish, however I did spot a tray being sent out from the kitchen, as I stood at the register to pay. It was quite fresh and nice looking. Next time, I think.
The battered fish was very tasty and the coating held up well. It didn’t turn into a soggy, doughy mess and the fish was a nice quality. I sampled the fried chicken, which brought back fond memories.
I will be back — next time I really want good fried chicken or fish.
