I really wanted to love this place. Because I’m a huge fan of Thai food, However they didn’t have a wide selection of Thai choice. They didn’t even have Thai ice tea :(. I went on a Saturday afternoon around 2PM and the restaurant was pretty clean. The service here is a bit slow but ok. We order the drums of heaven was good for starters. For entrée I order the schezwan fried rice with chicks which was also good but it was a bit to dry. There hot and sour soup with chicken is ok I wish it had more flavor and vegetables to go along with it. But there is not anything special that makes you want to come back or give you that wow factor. Maybe if I’m in the area I’ll eat here again.

Dropped by for dinner after a day of shopping in the Hicksville Broadway Mall(IKEA, etc). Had a Groupon deal to use anyway. Ordered the Drums of Heaven(chicken drum sticks), Papaya Salad, Basil Ginger Chicken, Pad Thai, Green Curry, and Thai Fried Rice for a family of four. Portions were not big and Pad Thai not up to standard. Other than that, the Basil Chicken was tasty and the Green Curry was very good. The restaurant is nice and quiet with mostly Indo-Asian crowd. Service was good not outstanding. Overall, it was a good use of my Groupon $ 60 food for $ 30. Might come back again.

My rating went down not because of the food. food is pretty good and delicious. My rating is down because they add the gratuity in the bill and then expect an additional gratuity on top of that. I went with three of my friends and the bill had a 19% gratuity… and then they expected an additional 15−20% on top of that. I didn’t appreciate that.

I liked the food allot ! I didn’t like the ambience of this place ! The place suffers due to bad service otherwise it’s a good restaurant … Don’t know why this place gets bad reviews.

I have been here many times before and trust me, the quality is AMAZING for the price. Their Indian-Chinese fusion cuisine is ruly something out of this world. From their Chili Lamb to their Manchow soups, there is not a thing that will disappoint you. The décor is superb and the staff is very helpful, friendly and entertaining. Plus the fact that a place like this would even have Groupon specials make this place all the sweeter. Alone or with a group, if you’re feeling adventurous, Masala Wok is the place to be!!!

Do not understand the negative reviews. This is a true fusion restaurant with great entrees. I LOVE the cauliflower manchurian, chili lamb and Hakka noodles. The honey chicken is also great, perfectly crispy. Their soups are delicious. Great for take out and dining in. Food is great overall. I would eat here every week. It’s a delicious treat.

The food was really good. We had the shrimp pad thai the szechwan shrimp and the shrimp in hot garlic sauce(which wasnt spicy but still good). I had a groupon so i decided 2 get the drums of heaven to go(nowhere near as good as people said it would be. The worst thing we ordered). The entrees were very filling tho and I was very satisfied. The waiter wasnt very attentive especially since we were the only people there but he was easy to find when we need somethi g so it wasnt to a point where it annoyed me. Overall I’d go back

Not the best place for vegetarians for lunch. I did not enjoy the 1 hour wait for water when the dish was spicy AF. I think that Masala Wok would possibly be good for those who eat meat but since I am no expert on meat I cannot say with certainty. They do have a lunch deal in which you get soup and an entrée. Big portions w/okay food.

Masala Wok was a mediocre experience. My husband and I bought a Groupon worth $ 60 and then discovered that there were no specialty beverages(alcoholic or non-alcoholic) and no dessert. So we chose various dishes knowing we would bring a lot home. For appetizers, we ordered the Drums of Heaven and Crispy Lotus Flower. The drums were okay. They were smothered in something that tasted like an unimpressive Asian wing sauce. The Crispy Lotus Flower was crunchy and drenched in a sweet and sour-like sauce. They were interesting, but they were more of a novelty. I’m not sure I’d order either again. We had two soups: Tom Kha and Tom Yum. They were probably my favorite dishes of the night. Our entrées were Ginger Basil Chicken, Pad Thai, and Eggplant in Hot Garlic sauce. Pad Thai was inedible. Sweet and pasty. We did enjoy the other two dishes, though the Ginger Basil Chicken could have used more peppers. The people there were nice, but not very attentive or informative. All in all, I have had most of these dishes at other Thai restaurants. I would rather revisit one of my usual places than come back to Masala Wok.

The worst! I was even hungry and I did not even want to finish my meal .I went because My friend brought a groupon deal for it. The food was tasteless, it’s like they marinated the dish for a second and cooked it. It didn’t taste fresh. The only decent thing was the waiter. He tried to be helpful.

Used to be a good restaurant. Now practically all the dishes we order are tasteless. We ordered the vegetable manchurian and chili garlic noodles. Talk about bland. It’s like the chef doesn’t carry salt or spices in the kitchen. I would forego the Groupon deals they offer and stick to New Chili & Curry or Tangra Masala in Hillside. What a lousy experience.

It was okay. Drums of heaven or something like that, good appetizer, tasty. The main entrees I had were good tasting but a little more oily then I liked and one dish just over punched with chili spice. If I ever came back it would just be for the chicken appetizer.

Well Masala Wok is the most delicious hakka chinese restaurant on Long Island. I prefer it’s flavors over New Chili. However don’t go for strictly thai or chinese dishes as they are not the reason to go. Rather, focus on the regional specialties, the«Indianized Chinese» dishes. The Hakka chilly lamb, shrimp and chicken and the Hakka chilly noodles. The shrimp in black bean is also first rate. Also the Manchurian dishes. Their drums of heaven appetizer is excellent and I could have an order as entrée as well. The coriander dish has been good as well. Don’t forget to BYOB or you’ll be thirsty!

My bf and I stumbled upon here for lunch. We were shopping at Ikea and decided to do a lil restaurant roulette with the plethora of choices in this area. Masala Wok won only cuz of the ease of(street) parking. We came towards the end of the lunch hour(I think 3PM), but the staff didn’t seem bothered. Whenever I come near closing time to other restaurants, the staff sometimes seem agitated and wants to hurry us out. The staff at Masala Wok was very accommodating and doting, despite the fact that their restaurant was technically closed(i think they were going to prep for dinner) — we literally walked in probably 5 minutes before closing. At first glance into the restaurant it look like it needs an update. It seems a little dark and dingey, and the sound system was a bit wonky but I liked it(then again I’m an optimist and I like hole in the wall places). For appetizers, we started off with the drums of heaven. This was pretty delish but I felt like the meat was lacking a bit in flavor. It didn’t seem like it was marinated in herbs, just topped with them. For entrees, we ordered Chicken Manchurian, Masala Veggies in Green Chilly Sauce, and Chili Garlic Rice. All of the entrée dishes were amazing and had the perfect amount of heat! The portion were pretty huge for the Veggies and Rice, so we ended up with a good amount of leftovers. At some point while dining, the waiter changed and the new waiter was not on top of his game. Multiple times, my bf and I had to flag him for water refills and napkins. At the time we dined this wasn’t a big deal(as the restaurant was empty except for us and another couple) but it would be a deal breaker when it was a peak dining time(and looks like reason for most of the low star reviews). Would I come back here? Most definitely yes — I’d love to try all the other dishes. I would just be conscious about what time I come, so as to avoid«peak» dining times. The bill for four dishes was about $ 40 — not bad for four dishes with enough for some lunch tomorrow.

Worst dinner I can remember. Most likely because I wasn’t able to eat. After waiting more than 40 minutes for 2 appetizers and only 1 showed up, we decided to leave. Haven’t done that in 20 years. Won’t go back. Won’t recommend.

The inside of the restaurant has about 30 seats with sparse décor. I came here with a friend with a grupon valid for $ 60. Using up the coupon was more difficult than I thought it might be after we realized there nothing here to drink — no Thai iced tea, no regular tea, of course no alcohol, no coffee — just water and coca cola. Since the drums of heaven at new chili have always been spot on, we tried those for the appetizer. They’re about the same at Masala Wok, maybe New Chili is slightly better. For our entrées we had the green curry(since the waiter said pagang wasn’t an option for the kitchen and that red was too hot), chicken Hakka, and shrimp with garlic sauce. The serving sizes seemed a little smaller than what you might get at another restaurant, but we ordered so much it didn’t matter. The curry was good, not too spicy. More chicken than vegetables. The Hakka came with lots of chills, which we avoided but the chicken itself was good, smaller cuts of meat. The shrimp came out in a red sauce, my friend said it vaguely tasted like ketchup. I didn’t exactly taste the garlic either. When we were given the bill, it came to $ 52 before tax. In the past using grupons it usually didn’t matter if we didn’t use the full grupon, but the waiter insisted we had to order another dish to bring the pretax order to 60. After 1 app and 3 dishes we were full and there were no deserts to speak of so I resigned on the cauliflower appetizer to take home. Slightly fried and seasoned pieces of cauliflower were good. The service was spotty, there were two people working and the restaurant filled quickly after 6.

Masala Wok is a standout in a town full of Indian, Pan Asian, Asian Fusion and Thai type restaurants. The owner is a gem and very concerned about the quality of his food. You should know that about 75% of the clientele is Sikh and they have no problem with the service or language spoken by the waiters and service staff. We have been patrons since they opened and always enjoy the experience. Our favorite dishes, which we gravitate to each visit are : appys; Manchurian Cauliflower and drums of heaven… both tasty and prepared beautifully. Mains: We always order the Coriander Shrimp Spicy! and it does have a nice kick. They have a BYOB policy which makes the experience fun and less costly then the competing venues in the area. And, they appreciate Groupon customers and treat them equally as well as full paying ones. I am at a loss to explain the negative reviews which seem to proliferate. If you come at dinner time the place is always crowded which does have significance!

Really enjoyed our first meal here, we will be back to try more! Had the Hakka Chilly Chicken which was a little crispy(not KFC crispy) and still tender. The Szechuan lamb was our second dish, also very flavorful with a little kick to it, very welcome that it was spicy but not super hot that you had to take breaks in between bites :). Halal sign in the front window as well. Park in the back where they have a huge lot not the limited street parking in the front. Not 5 stars because it was slightly pricey, $ 18 for lamb dishes when the portions were not super huge.

I gotta wonder why the menu says«Authenic Indian Cuisine» when really, the dishes were mainly unauthentic Thai and Chinese cuisines. I guess they mean that everything is made with authentic Indian style? I was disappointed to find that there weren’t any Indian dishes at all, even though the online menu has some. We ordered a crispy chicken appetizer, which tasted an awful lot like General Tso’s Chicken. And then there was the Thai Green Curry, Penang Curry, Hakka Chicken, and Hakka noodles. Each dish was about $ 13 and it really wouldn’t have been worth it if we didn’t use a Groupon that saved us $ 25. Still, it was barely worth it. The good thing was that the chicken is extra, extra soft and tender. almost suspiciously too tender. Anyway, it was good to try, but I was really looking forward to Indian food.
