The Zoo Health Club

Good gym. Love having a gym so close to me and that I can go to whenever (as long as you pay for the higher memberships). Wish there was some music playing or something. The days I forget my headphones suck. Since I’ve been going there for almost a year now the staff has been a hot and miss. Some I’m glad to know there but others not so much. But I’m not too worried about that since rarely do I go during staff hours anymore. But very clean gym (just hope the cleaner wipes don’t run out or not come out of the container).

The Zoo is a nice sized 24 hour gym and a great alternative to the mega gym corporations. The membership rates and perk are the best that I have seen. My wife signed us up for the Standard Membership. It is $ 24 for the first person and $ 12 for additional family members. The best perk is that each member also gets to bring in a guest at staffed hours free of charge. There’s no stupid guest pass that requires a «consultation» with a fitness expert. There’s no sell whatsoever. They are your guest and can just work out with you or spot you when you’re benching 300 pounds like me ;).
There are the usual suspects of equipment like weight machines, free weights, and cardio machines. The gym and locker room are always clean and the equipment is well-​maintained. The Zoo is barely/​almost 2 years old. Some equipment started to show signs of wear. The workout bench’s cushioning was tearing. One day it was taped up. I was scared. I thought they were going to cost cut their way to running a gym. To my surprise, The Zoo replaced the cushions a couple of days later. The speed in which they repaired the equipment showed that they are serious about running a great neighborhood gym. The zoo also has a group workout room for classes. When it is not being used for classes, then members are free to use the space. I like streaming my workout (insanity, etc.) to my tablet and doing the workouts in here.
However, streaming video can be an inconsistent situation. The Zoo offers free wifi, but the signal throughout the gym is very weak. The areas it needs to be the strongest, cardio and group room, is where it is weakest. My signal sometimes drops to speeds where I can’t stream Netflix while doing my cardio. The cardio area is where wifi needs to be strongest because this is where people can make the most of it. I need my Olivia Pope while doing 15 miles on the treadmill! I have voiced my concern about the wifi, but there have been no improvements since they opened. In, this digital age, I have to ding it a star for the slow, unreliable wifi.
$ 24 per month with a free guest for a well-​managed gym with a friendly staff is a great deal. Now, excuse me, I gotta get swolled.

I love the ZOO Gym! This is the first time I have ever gotten my money’s worth out of a membership. It is clean, bright and friendly! If you’re looking for a swimming pool or racket ball courts, this is not your gym. If you’re looking for good cardio & strength equipment, the ZOO is a hit. I seldom wait for a machine, either cardio or resistance. The staff and members are friendly… it’s a pleasure to go in.

Although I don’t use the gym side, I need to mention that it is very clean and uncrowded. A plus for sure.

I love this little neighborhood gym! I used to go to the LA Fitness on Imbrie, but after they bought out the competition and funneled everyone into their LA locations, they started cramming people into the once spacious building like cattle. The Zoo, on the other hand, is only moderately crowded even at peak times. They’ve got state-​of-​the-​art equipment that supports iPods, and you can either watch TV or surf the Internet on the elliptical machines. They’ve got a good mix of free weights and resistance machines, and best of all hardly any of the bellowing meatheads that crash weight-​stacks and hog up the leg-​lift machine for an hour. Oh, and the members are really conscientious about cleaning the machines after using them. A terrific place to get in shape and stay that way!

This gym is amazing! I am hesitant on writing a review here because I don’t want it to become over crowded and like those «other» gyms. This place is clean, bright and friendly. From staff to other members the environment is warm and inviting.
The only thing I could suggest to improve is more classes (especially on Saturday/​Sunday).
Whoever said this is good for kids, your crazy. This is a gym with no kid play area. LEAVE YOUR KIDS AT HOME! I actually am going to drop this by 1 star because people like to think this is part time daycare and there are children that hog machines for no point except to touch the TV screens and surf the web.

I love this little gem of a gym. The owner and staff are very friendly. The best thing about this gym is that everyone cleans up the machines after each use. It doesn’t have a pool, basketball court or spa, but it does have what you need to get your workout done. Such a great little gym.

This gym is great.
The price is right. They have a few different options. I pay around 20 but I have 24 hour access to the gym. there are cheaper memberships but you have to come in during their hours of operation. If you get the membership I have you get 24 hour access and can bring a friend whenever you like during business hours.
All of the cardio machines have their own TV, so instead of looking at a monitor yure watching Wheel of Fortune. I did not think I would care abut this feauture but its pretty awesome.
This isnt a corporate gym, the owner is very nice and you will often see her working out, its a year contract as far as I know but when i signed up she was very cool to me, not charging me for a month I was out of town.
Cant say enough good things, modern equipment (kettlebells!), freindly staff, and rarely busy. Check it out
