This place has gotten more expensive over the years that I don’t go as often as I would have previous. Not my first choice anymore for Chinese/Vietnamese fare.

This has got to be the worse bun Bo hue and wonton min I have ever eaten in my entire existence! I don’t think I’m that picky of an eater but the bun in the Bo Hue was choppy, the broth tasted like it was out of a can and the bean sprouts that came with it has to be the saddest I have ever seen! Then you get to the Wonton noodles. It is a cold dreary day so by recommendation, we came upon this place. The broth is so freaking salty! You can’t taste if it has any chicken broth or beef broth or any sort of broth other than salt in a dark colored soup! The noodles were soggy and if anything at least the wonton tasted decent, not exactly appealing looking. I’ve never been so disappointed in my life! Don’t come here if you are looking for authentic Vietnamese or Chinese food! The summer rolls, don’t even get me started on that! It was so bad I didn’t even snap a photo! Don’t come here! There’s bound to be something better out there cause this place definitely isn’t it!

Hilo Rice Noodle: Hidden Gem Hilo Rice Noodle is a small mom and pop restaurant located in a small strip mall in Hilo. The menu is a blend between Chinese, Vietnamese, and local Eurasian cuisine. Overall the service and price is good. The food was tasty and portions was generous. Ample parking is available. There are no visible signs near the entrance. Unless one is from the area it is not easy to find. I highly recommend if visiting or living in the Waiakea-Uka area.

Being a homey style restaurant, Hilo Rice Noodle has great boba and phở! It’s a comfortable environment and the servers are kind. I love how the bubble tea is similar to a slush and has a refreshing fruity taste. It’s a very small restaurant, but I do enjoy stopping by once in a while.

Another one of my go to restaurants! This place has been around since before my existence but for as long as I can remember I’ve been brought up around this place. Some of my favorite dishes would be the avocado salad, their phở, summer rolls, lettuce wraps and pot stickers!

Open M ~ F: 10:00am to 8:30pm Sat: 10:00am to 2:00pm Sun: Closed Serves both Vietnamese & Chinese food. Equipped with two drive-in type service windows and a few outdoor tables for to-go orders. They also have a small indoor dining area. This business started off clean, well maintained and busy. But… when the Unemployment Office moved in next door, it took a turn for the worst. The quality of the food is still as good as it was when the business first opened but geez… It’s sure wasn’t looking pretty on my last visit. The heavy foot traffic and lack of maintenance is making the place look really run down. And the people that have been loitering here are the types you’d probably report as suspicious. Still, every now and then we stop in for some of their delicious spring rolls. $ 6.99 will buy you 3 fresh out the fryer, hot & crispy spring rolls, wrapped in a cold crisp lettuce with cilantro and a sweet fish sauce for dipping. I normally get two orders. We also like their phở. I like the shrimp phở. An order comes with fresh basil, bean sprouts, mint, cilantro, an oyster plum type sauce, as well as a mildly spicy red sauce that probably has enough kick to cure a sinus infection. Yes sir! The combination plates consist of fried pork, shrimp and spring rolls, served over a cold rice noodle that ‘s perched on a bed of lettuce and comes with a side of the same sweet fish dipping sauce. The food is totally worth an occasional stop. Just be aware of your surroundings.

Got the seafood chow fun… It was 98% chow fun and 2% seafood. The noodles just tasted salty. I drenched it with sriracha to make it taste better. Not worth $ 14. Nice customer service but food needs improvement.

I had the oyster sauce chicken entrée. The egg soup that comes with it is bery bland no flavor it looks like instant soup. The plate was dissapointing i had take out. The plate was light first off all. The chicken had no flair nor did the sauce! no side veggies jus chicken n rice:( This is my second time here and im still not impressed. The first experience was sit down service. I had a 13 yr old waiter that gave me a plate with a fly on it in plain sight! i was very dissapointed that they only offered me free tapioca and not a full refund. Not returning to this place theres many more places in Hilo that give more food and actually have TASTE!

It was 8:00pm and we were trying to find a decent place in town. Stopped here after seeing the 70 reviews averaging 4 stars. This was pretty terrible. Nothing had any real flavor our waitress was pretty uneducated in any of the dishes and even told us that she didn’t usually eat at the restaurant she was serving at… I would not recommend this and would suggest going to the store and buying bread, peanut butter and jelly and eating a meal ten times better than this.

The workers were very nice. The waiter helped us choose some stuff on the menu and I tried some of the suggestions on Unilocal. I loved the Honey walnut shrimp and he Sesame chicken. I wasn’t really liking the salt and pepper beef. But everything else was good. We also got the chow funn pork since we were cutting out rice. Hot jasmine tea also! And I had to get a taro bubble tea before leaving… And that was delicious!

I came here to pick up lunch which was a #34 Chicken and Spring Roll Cold Noodle. You can either dine in or take-out and eat outside, whatever you prefer. Hilo Rice Noodle serves Chinese and Vietnamese cuisine. They are open from Monday through Friday from 10 am to 8:30 pm. On Saturday from 10 am to 2 pm and closed on Sunday. Today was my first time being here in a long long time! I do however remember all those umbrellas hanging upside-down from the ceiling though. The food is a little pricey here but Hilo Rice Noodle does server up really good items. In the past I’ve ordered the Honey Chicken, House Cake noodles with shrimp and Salt and Pepper Squid. All were at that time… splendid! It’s a nice place to go to when you need to break the monotony of Chinese restaurants in Hilo. That is especially when Chinese restaurants are all you see around Hilo town, LOL! Don’t get me wrong, I love it but more variety is better. Anyway, Hilo Rice Noodle achieves 4 stars from me… nice job!

To me, Hilo Rice Noodle Soup(referred to as HRNS from here on out) was always that place that we would call when we needed to get a big order of cake noodles for a party or something; and I had no problem with that. But, I not-so-recently learned that they serve boba drinks, and I’d be lying if I said that didn’t change the game. Really though, HRNS isn’t some restaurant that just popped up out of nowhere by any means. It’s always been there(as long as I can remember), serving up great Viet and Chinese food for the masses. From banh mi to mongolian beef, they’ve got you covered. Being a restaurant that allows you to call before hand and just pick up food, HRNS is always a very convenient and viable option when you need to grab a quick dish to a get-together. However, that’s not to say that they aren’t also a great place to simply dine-in. With a good number of booths and tables inside their restaurant, along with two dining rooms in the back for larger groups, you can normally count on them to have seats available for you and your crew. They also have lots of seating outside by the pick-up area if you get your plate and decide you just want to enjoy the fresh air while you eat. Parking at HRNS is also a non-issue. Located in a building that used to have a super market in it, there is ample parking at all times of day. I believe on Saturdays there is even a farmer’s market sort of thing in the parking lot there, so if you happened to swing by on the weekend you could catch that as well. Really I have nothing bad to say about HRNS. Every time I’ve been there, I’ve had great service and good foods. Just an overall good experience. What more could you ask for? I highly recommend that you give them a try if you haven’t already!

Food is good. Service was ookay. It was a very slow afternoon, yet the girl was still unable to get one of our rice order until the last min we were done w our other dishes. Also really disappointed with how small the dish portions were considering its high price… I feel like getting food at Panda would be much worth for its serving/price.

I went here so often when I lived in Hilo. I practically stopped by once a week. The phở here is great but I am very partial the salt and pepper squid. I even got my friends hooked on it. They have speedy service and great staff that take care of you. They also had the best boba in Hilo(IMO). Give this place a try!!! It’s delicious!!!

The family who owns Hilo Rice Noodle Soup Restaurant have both Vietnamese and Chinese roots and that is reflected in their extensive menu. A regular choice for me from the Vietnamese side of the menu is the Cold Vermicelli Noodles with Spring Rolls and BBQ Chicken, they put lettuce at the bottom so it’s a complete meal in a bowl. If you’d rather have rice, try the Pork Chop, the chop is thin and well seasoned with lemongrass and spices. From the Chinese side, try the Young Tofu with mushroom and ground pork. The tofu is soft and silky and the gravy has a nice flavor. They also have a wide variety of stir-fries, vegetarian options, and dishes with noodles(chow funn, chow mien, rice noodle, and cake noodle). There is no sign on the exterior – that was stolen years ago – casual indoor and outdoor dinning, or takeout. If you are craving Vietnamese or Chinese food in Hilo, Hilo Rice Noodle is your best option.

Found this place on Unilocal because we wanted soup, and this was the first one that popped up. Followed the directions and wasn’t sure if we found the right place. It’s in an unmarked building. No signs what so ever. Was only able to identify the restaurant based on the décor I saw from Unilocal pictures. It’s a mixture of Vietnamese and Chinese. Different, I’ll give them that. The food was bland– I had the combination fired noodles. The service was not up to par and they need to put a sign to direct customers to pay outside. I didn’t even know the two were connected! Work on the signage and maybe more people will come.

If you’re craving for pork with a bit of spice, I highly recommend the Salt & Pepper Pork Ribs! It is my favorite dish! If you’re thinking of dining in, the inside of the restaurant is beautiful! They have the traditional Chinese umbrellas(uncertain what they are called, I’m sorry if I offend anyone) hanging from the ceiling, and Christmas lights to the light the room :) It’s very romantic and lit. Also, I forgot to mention that the spring rolls and the Honeydew bobba drink are awesome!

Great food and good service… so far the best Vietnamese food in Hilo by far. I would have given them 5 stars but they forgot to put my meatballs in my phở. They did give it to me after I asked though. The waiter and waitress were very helpful and friendly. Food was fresh and deliciously satisfying. We will be back!

3-stars means«A-OK» which accurately describes this local Vietnamese-Chinese restaurant(imho). Good food and service at reasonable prices. My friend and I were visiting from Oahu and found this place on Unilocal, but we had a hard time finding it because there is no sign outside, and nothing on the door, but GPS said we’d arrived. So when we asked«Is this Hilo Rice Noodle?» a lady answered«Yes — you must not be local» which I thought was a strange thing to say to a new customer(so perhaps put a sign up? just sayin’…) Okay, that said, the food! — Salt and pepper shrimp — Messy to eat, but really good, so worth it :0} — Mongolian beef — tasty but the beef was tough, thick slices with gristle :0{ — Lettuce chicken cups — these were quite bland, wouldn’t get again. :0I If I lived here, I’m sure I would return as there is a lot on the menu that looks really inviting and the service is fast and friendly. All in all, A-OK.
