My mom heard of It Tastes Like Love when she tasted one of their pielettes at the Downers Grove, IL farmer’s market. It was fate. I had wanted to do mini pies for my wedding favors and so I set up a tasting. It was incredible, Harriet was the most lovely person I worked with throughout my entire wedding. And the pies were delicious. I’m a foodie and I’m pretty critical and I have absolutely nothing bad to say about the pies, they were incredible. We ended up choosing pumpkin, dutch apple, sweet potato, tart cherry, and pecan(we did alternating flavors on the tables and people could trade if they wanted.)

I am pretty shocked that no one has reviewed this business. Now, I guess I get to do the honors. It Tastes Like Love is just what the name implies. I stumbled on this business at a local farmers market and I have to say, it did catch my attention. Unlike some of others, this was a new business. This business was formed in 2008 by Harriett Barry, a former marketing executive who happens to love baking. Good thing for us she took this route. I saw many people buy pies from her(at a local Farmer’s Market) over a period of weeks and some were repeat buyers. The real bread and butter of this business are pies. You can either order a full pie(about 9″) or a pie-lette(more of a min-pie, about the size of a cupcake). Price range was between around $ 20.00 for a pie and $ 3.50 for a pie-lette. Over the last summer, the pecan pie-lette was a staple for me. The pie was unreal. No artificial colors, flavoring or preservatives. All of them are hand made. I was hooked on my first bite. The apple was also rock solid as was the sweet potato. The textures for all of these pies were savory(for lack of better words). Perfect filling, perfect balance of spices and not over– powering. In other words, I missed these treats once the market season ended. So now that things are heating up again, I can get my fix again. Now here’s the catch, especially for those outside the western burbs. As of now, you can get the pies one of two ways. First, you have to go to either Bolingbrook, Hinsdale or Downers Grove Farmers Markets(again, this was as of last year). As of now, they don’t have a retail location. They do the baking out of a local church so at least this is being done in a professional setting. You can arrange to pick up your pie at the time of order. That’s how Internet orders are filled(as of now). I had the pleasure of speaking to the owner, Harriet Barry, a few times last year and she couldn’t have been more genuinely nice. You may also consider contacting them directly to see what markets they will be at this summer. You may also order online. Yes, this is a keeper. If you see the business at a local market, it will be worth a visit. It’s businesses like this you really want to be successful. Your sweet tooth will thank you.
