Cleanest recording studio I’ve personally ever been in, and I’m convinced the cleanest bathrooms in all of Chicago. Solid Sound is a long-standing studio with a *solid* past. Since 1979 the studio has recorded many local, national, and international projects. I’ve been in some pretty dirty gritty studios in my lifetime, and what I absolutely love about the vibe here is how comfortable it is. The live room is ginormous and feels cozy for one or for a whole group. The lighting is perfect, there’s a sofa in there so everyone has a place to sit, a grand piano and a variety of organs, mics, drums, everything you need to make a great album. The control room is loaded with world class equipment and there’s a place for everyone to sit. It’s tight as a drum and well-sealed from the live room. This place is far and pretty hidden, and when I left at night there was a security car outside. This place seems to be watched like a hawk. I don’t know if there are any other recording studios in the area, but the trip is well worth it. They are pretty flexible and gave me a great rate — able to work with my budget. The best part of everything is the fact that there is no smoking here. As a singer, I hate it when you go into a studio and have to sing with cigarette fumes and leave smelling like a smoke stack. That’s just gross. But, it’s quite common with many studios still. Don’t pass this studio by, because it’s worth the trip. Joe, one of the studio owners, is a great guy to work with. He’ll take good care of you like you’re in his home. Note: chocolate bowl and 24 hour iHop right near by! Score!
