*Sigh* It appears that my quest for decent fried chicken that I do not have to drive into the city for will continue unabated, as this place was barely passable. Good fried chicken is not quantum physics folks. Let’s break it down shall we? And I will add my thoughts on how Brown’s Chicken stacks up in turn. 1) Chicken needs to be decent quality– Highly doubtful in this instance, or it would of been far more succulent and meaty. 2) Use of good flour mixed with appropriate seasoning to emphasize taste: It was good and crunchy, but it was devoid of much flavor. They do have hot sauce available, but if you have to douse your chicken with hot sauce then there is obviously a problem. 3) Make sure chicken fry oil is changed out regularly so it does not give the chicken that«burnt» taste(ideally pan fried): No dice from Brown’s chicken on this one either. 4) Chicken is not over-battered: Nothing sucks more than biting into a piece of chicken that seems huge, but the reality is it just has a layer of crust 2 inches thick. This is one area Brown’s did decent on, but one out of 4 is not going to cut it. This place is simply not legit by any true chicken lovers standards. The biscuits were not very tasty either. Kind of doughy with a hint of flour. Their fried okra(a personal fav of mine that I was actually excited to see on the menu) was greasy similarly lifeless. The lone highlight side dish was the mac and cheese, which was really tasty, but this was hardly enough to elevate this place’s overall rating. Looks like I am going to have to make a pilgrimage to the ghetto sooner rather than later if there is ever going to be a decent 2 piece and a biscuit in my future.

Disgusting place. Walked in, crumbs everywhere, old dry chicken under the heat lamp, small kid walking on the counter. Stay away. I walked out.

There for lunch. Pedestrian fried chicken, nothing interesting. Maybe a good take out option if no other option. Eating there is miserable. Or at least was today. So cold… Thermostat on wall said 53 degrees! Asked for ketchup, tried to take one out of bin, 5 were stuck together by some goo. Gross. Television stuck on The Chew at ridiculous volume… Unbearable. The show and volume. And the booths are small. I’m not that big, felt very cramped. I didn’t order soda, but it appears by the sign on the machine refills are $ 1.00 — ridiculous. Onion rings tasted burned, though weren’t, leading me to think they are overdue on changing fryer oil. And flimsy plastic forks, not ideal for trying to eat chicken. And again, cold. Found myself eating fast just to get to car to warm up. Given the myriad of other choices in the area, doubt I will ever go back.

Worst place on earth. Went there and ended up throwing my food on the counter & leaving. Rude lady does not know customer service. Stay away, This place does not deserve to be open. Food was poor & the staff was bad.

Evidently not all Brown’s Chickens are the same. Stay away from this one … in a strip mall about 1 mile west of Woodfield Mall. How can they not fry their classic chicken, fritters or mushrooms correctly?! Dark, greasy, tough, overcooked. My guess: they use old oil — tasted odd anyway. Maybe the same flavor as the fried food in the Indian restaurant next door? Sat. night at 6:45, 20 min. wait with only one other guy waiting for his food before me. A cook came out of the restroom right next to the counter carrying a bag of food — hope he washed his hands. $ 25 for an 8 piece greasy dinner: P The woman at the counter couldn’t care less when I said I wouldn’t be back because the wait was so long. I agree with a previous reviewer — Palatine or Elk Grove or Skokie have good Brown’s — for those couple times a year you have a craving.

Brown’s Chicken is under new management. It is Zabiha/Halal. Since I was a kid, I’ve always loved their fried mushrooms but lately it has been greasy and unappetizing. Well, we went this Monday and all I can say is that they’re BACK!!! The fried chicken was really good. I anxiously anticipated their fried mushrooms and they were simply delicious. It was like a blast from the past. We also ordered meatball sandwich from the menu. It was really good. The owner is nice and friendly. Only gripe is I wish they were faster but was worth the wait.

I ordered 1 pound of chicken liver but I think I only got a half pound and it did not taste good at all. What a waste of $ 9.80. I bought 1 pound of fresh chicken liver for $ 1.50 and fried it up myself a few days later because I had to have some good stuff after the nasty stuff from this place.

I love me some fried chicken… BUT! Not from this place! The Indian man behind the counter was not very pleasant and I am guessing he was the owner. If you wanted to change anything in your meal it was a dollar up charge. The chicken was alright, kinda crappy and as for the sides… Very tasteless and gross. The place itself was pretty run down looking. We should have just left the moment we stepped foot in that place but we were hungry and it was already 7:30pm. The Browns in Palatine is a lot more fresher with their food.
