Best bakery ever. I honestly can’t believe the few negative reviews here about the workers. They are the most friendly, honest and hardworking business owners in town, always accommodating to patrons and actually open during times people would be out shopping, which I can’t say is true for many other Hollister business owners. Everything is always FRESH made that day and I don’t know how much more fresh you want it. The tortillas are melt-in-your-mouth to die for and I actually have friends out of town that I mail them to. The prices are also great. Where can you really buy a pack of 20 of the best tortillas ever for $ 2? Best masa ever at Christmas time, not greasy and perfect consistency. Keep up the good work El Nopal. We love you guys!

Best bakery ever. I look forward to the times when I come to town for this place alone! The service is always great. Once, at the second location, their debit machine wasn’t working and I had no cash and the owner told me the bread was on them that day! Seriously the best.

The people that work the front are rude and have an attitude. If your not happy find a different job.

I am writing this review on behalf of my friend who was there a week ago. I would give this place negative stars if there was an option to. My friend went there to buy cookies for her daughter. When my friend asked for fresh cookies the owner immediately told her I can’t sell you cookies. My friend was like WTF. Just because she asked for«fresh» they refused to sell her cookies. This is so unacceptable and unheard of. She is never going there again!

I especially made my Unilocal account just to review El Nopal. I’ve been coming here since I was a tiny little boy. I’ve eaten pan dulce(Mexican sweet bread) just about everywhere in the southwestern states from California to Texas, nothing, and I do mean NOTHING beats El Nopal. I live in San Jose and make frequent trips to Hollister just for this bread, I know it sounds insane, but it’s true. And I know I’m not the only one who goes out of their way to buy pan dulce. We use to have a lot of family from Hollister who have now moved elsewhere and the first thing they ask for before visiting them is bread from El Nopal. It has a simplistic charm that is definitely unbeatable with the quality of bread. I really hope this place stays as it is for my future kids to one day enjoy!

El Nopal is 70% of the reason why Im fat. And Im 100% ok with that. Churro me. I have been coming here ever since I was a little girl. I was at El Nopal the moment that they announced on the radio that Selena died. We cried along with the workers there that day. Super emotional. Also, super awkward.

Best Mexican bakery in Hollister. Pumpkin empanadas are just right, and the jalapeño cheese rolls are the best I’ve had.

I’m sorry Bobby but this is NOT the best pan dulce! I heard all kinds of hype about this place from my friend and I made sure I saved enough calories for me to enjoy a piece of pan dulce after lunch and let me tell you… what a waste of my 200 calories! I definitely have to take him to the panaderias out here in the bay because he is missing out! This panaderia is a medium size shop, with glass windows all around and a lot of light coming through. Very clean and clutter free. They must make their own tortillas because it seemed like it was a very popular item to buy. They only have two long glass displays with bread and a lot of OPEN room for more pastries. Their bread looks good at first glance(except for their«puerquitos» which didn’t look like pigs at all… they kind of looked like embryo pigs instead… idk, oh and they looked fried rather than baked… just awful!) Aside from the puerquitos I like the elotes which in my experience they tend to be pink on the inside. well not here! I had an elote and my friend had a concha and I don’t know how his was but mine was plain plain plain. I mean… even Marinela’s bread tastes better than this one. It is too bad because I have a flaw for pan dulce and this just was cutting it for me! Better luck next time.

Of the 20 – 30 words I know in Spanish, I’m so happy that pan dulce is two of them so that when I go to this bakery I don’t have to point at what I want through the glass while drooling. Though to be honest, for the soft fresh, flavourful deliciousness of these little breads, no amount of drooling and gesticulation is below me. I don’t know what they put in the breads here that they don’t at other places, but whatever it is has people making special trips from San Jose to get it, or in my case jogging from my house 3 miles away to justify eating it when I get there!

i really don’t know what’s all the hype with this place, i hate their costumer service, i hate the hours of operation, they just close on random days, if you’re not open when your schedule says, you’re loosing my business, the bread is OK but nothing out if this world, truly hollister people have never been to a good Mexican bakery. sorry to bring out the facts but this place sucks.

Their bread is really good. I know people that have driven to Hollister from San Jose just to get their bread or they beg me to buy them some before I head to San Jose. I don’t really like conchas but they are soft and tasty at El Nopa. Their«bolillos con queso y chile» are good as well as their«cuernos» or «polvorones.» If you go early in the morning the bread is still warm.

This place is the BOMB! Freshest pastries AND you can get a whole pack of flour tortillas freshly baked that morning for $ 0.99!!! If you have never had fresh tortillas you havent lived and if you you havent had El Nopals then shame on you! I drive from Oakland to buy the tortillas when I make enchiladas! TOTALLY worth it!

Another Hollister treasure except for a basic customer service of pricing. I go there for the corn or flour tortillas. Seems like they are always warm like they’ve just been made. Tortillas don’t get any fresher than this unless you make ‘em yourself. Yummy and cheap! However, folks, I’m downgrading them from 5 stars to three due to the lack of pricing or names on ANYTHING. Two big glass cases full of interesting things and no clue for the customers as to what or how much they are. This isn’t a roadside stand; it’s a storefront business that’s been here forever. Come on guys, put a price sticker at the front of each tray. Can’t be that hard.

They have the softest conchas you have EVER seen! I go to this place when I visit my parents, back in my home town. Nice little shop that opens early and has good ass menudo on the weekends. All the Oregano in that makes it spicy! Just the way I like it! You buy a Bolillo and dunk that sunbish’ in the menudo and you are set!!! The place is clean and as soon as you walk in, its like BAM! So many different smells of baked goods that makes your nose feel like its having a dang orgasm(serious). The staff is nice and work fast. If English is your only language dont fret. They speak English here too! The Baked good are just amazin. They have Conchas, Empanandas(pineapple, pumpin, and others) Puerquitos(pig shaped gingerbread goods), Oatmeal cookies, and they even make their own tortillas. When I go here I usually buy some empananadas, conchas, cuernos and misc things. Everything is super fresh too! Everythign is priced extrremly cheap. Dont be surprised if you go back for more when you find your total to be HALF of what you thought it would be! Im getting hungry just writting this review!!!

Best Mexican bakery I have EVER had the good fortune of visiting. And it happens to be in my hometown! My favorite purchase are by far the«cuernos,» large delicious buttery, toasted croissants. Seriously the best thing on earth. Anytime I go home to visit my parents i.e. do my laundry I stock up on as many cuernos they have in stock, literally. And everything is SO inexpensive! Also good are the sweet«conchas» and their«magdalenas» among many other things. I’m getting hungry just writing about them.
