Now why did I come here? Oh yeah… it was cheap, I wanted to experience the Shirokiya food/beer court, and to spend some time with my Christian bruddah Nate Y. das why… but I gotta tell you, aside from the neat atmosphere, and great company… the food was just meh at best! While walking around the Shirokiya food court yesterday, it was so overwhelming as there were so many food shops & choices… Ar first I was thinking Japanese curry, then I see some delicious bento’s, then I see beer, then I see desserts downstairs by the Brug Bakery. Aaaaaaaah, so may choices to choose from! At the end, I found myself at a place called — «5&2 Bento»…what caught my eye was the delicious looking bento’s that were 20% marked down from it’s original price(Can we say Chang?) Lol! Well, I ended up picking up a Kalbi &BBQ Chicken bento. It came with white rice, some cabbage, & some pickled veggies on the side. My friend picked a bento with Meat Jun, BBQ Chicken, & Spam. It also came with white rice & some pickled veggies too. What can I say about the Bento? Well, even if I got a 20% discount for that bento($ 7.99)…I think I would rather have had a Zippy’s Zip Pack instead… The bento was cold… and although we ate around 7PM, I guess the bento was sitting for awhile, therefore they marked it down 20% before the mall closes at 9PM. If the bento was at least warm, maybe the bento would have tasted better? My friend also said the same thing… Oh well… but I must say the Shirokiya food court is a pretty neat place to eat & people watch. :)

Despite the many food options in the Shirokiya food court, we somehow always end up picking something from here(5&2 Bento). Maybe it’s because we’re partial to their Korean offerings: mean jun, kalbi, teri beef, fish jun, bbq chicken, chop chae, etc. You can get a larger, bento meal or choose items a la carte. Eat it here or take it to go. Lots of options.

5&2… What?! Sounds like a reality show on MTV! I still don’t get the name, but I believe it’s Korean owned, since all the workers are Korean. Super nice, but don’t expect Nordstrom customer service here. To be honest I only come here for: 1. Extra Scoop Rice(cheapest in Yataimura Quality Food Court) 2. Default Spam Musubi– it’s actually pretty decent if it’s freshly made, but if sitting… Oh no. I «sometimes» get one for my Japanese Biru at Shirokiya Beer Garden— MR. DUKE! Nothing more. Anyways, those that know me, know my novel reviews, so I must inform you that this is my shortest one yet! I mean why add anything that Vince B. already said. Congrats Vince for beating me to the punch here… Maybe we’ll share a scoop of rice here one day… Nothing more. ***This is the 10th part of my Shirokiya Series. Follow me to follow my journey! OMG! First to review!!! Can’t believe that no one has reviewed 5&2 Bento yet! I like this place! Well, to be honest, yes I can see why it has been missed. Yeah, it is sort of nondescript and blends in with all the other nondescript bento display cases at this end of the food court. Location: Shirokiya Dept Store Yataimura Food Court and/or Beer Garden on the second floor. Next to the andagi fryer. Has been here since 2003. Food: Korean food mostly but a few other local style things too. Usual kalbi, beef etc etc. They also have chive jun, Korean sushi, some tofu items and fresh vietnamese spring rolls. Everything from gut busting huge meaty bentos to small lighter items. They also have plain white rice. Service: Busy workers in the back will answer questions or make something that they have run out of. Quality: They use no MSG and the items that I get are always good. I especially like the fresh spring rolls because they are big, come with two different dipping sauces, are cheap and taste great. Vegetarian: Some of the fresh spring rolls are meat free as are some of the Korean sushi(kimbap). Of course the rice and chive jun are meat free. This is why I go there. I don’t really eat those big meaty bentos any more. I’m always looking for the lighter or vegetarian options. Creativity: Okay, get the rice and chive june here. Get some grilled saba or spicy chicken wings to go with it. Or even better, get a heathy fresh spring roll and some andagi from next door. See what I’m saying. Make your own meal from two or more vendors. That’s why I love this place and shop here frequently.
