Sad news, just heard that Ace Express is closing June 15. Go while you can!

Bad news! Found out that Ace Express is going to close shop next month as their last day is June 15th. What a loss of another great establishment as their prices were very affordable for downtown.

If you like Zippy’s you’ll like the food here, however, don’t expect good customer service. There are usually three ladies working during the lunch hour(well, to be honest, 2 ½), and really, only 1 out of the 3 is really willing to answer any questions that you may have. Go to a Zippy’s and study their menu, then go to Ace’s order then get out of there.

It really should be called Zippy’s Express, not Ace express? Where did the Ace come from? In either case, should the mood for some local food strike you or perhaps a hankering for some of their famous chili, be sure to check out Ace Express on Alakea. They offer a very good menu of quick grab/go items at reasonable prices. Let’s be honest, who hasn’t had Zippy’s chili? Ok, I guess if you are new to the state or a newborn child you probably didn’t, but it’s pretty darn good. I blame it on the mayonnaise and the MSG. However, if the need for something warm and savory to strike, be sure to have some of their chili with rice(or crackers, or whatever other concoction should strike you). They also feature a rotating selection of their plate lunch menu items and a very good selection of small bento’s, salads, sandwiches, and rolls. I have never been disappointing, however at the same time you won’t be wow’ed by the flavor. If your office is celebrating an event and you forgot to pick up the cake, they do offer a good selection of cakes and pies from Napoleon’s Bakery as well. Prices are rather reasonable with sandwiches and rolls, bentos, and a few other grab and go items being a bit on the cheaper side while plate lunches in the $ 7 – 10 range. Service is generally pretty quick, however you may be waiting for a few minutes if you go at a peak lunch time. All in all, definitely a good place to grab you lunch when you are in downtown and on the go!

When I need a cheap breakfast fix… especially when I just have to have«Pinoy Style» Spaghetti, I always come here. Prices are definitely recession friendly. Service is quick too! I like how they have most everything grab and go! It isnt the best… sometimes it looks like they keep the food for too long, but that’s why I go in the morning. Salads are decent. It’s alot better than jack In the Crack across the street!

You know, for a pseudo Zippy’s, this place isn’t bad, not bad at all. It’s well-situated(for me, at least), clean, bright, and offers a wide selection of relatively inexpensive lunchtime goodies(i.e. chili, rice, kalua cabbage, macaroni salad, teri beef, etc) for on-the-go individuals(e.g. downtowners). I particularly like their ~$ 4.80 bentos, especially those that include the breaded fish(or hoki). Also, on some days when the mood strikes, I get their tasty tofu salad. A five-dollar bill can take you places here(i.e. bento, salads, slice of cake, donuts, etc) and to me, that’s a giant positive.

This is basically«Zippys» relabeled. Same Zippys food… It’s located on Alakea in one of those run down looking buildings. You walk in & it’s almost GHETTO. haha. the workers(ladies) are a bit grumpy(i would be too if I worked there) — I usually get the Chili Frank with no beans, all rice(dont wanna get sick from the mac salad). It’s alright food. Not a «you gotta eat it every day» kind of food.

Awesome value, great for when you need your Zippy’s fix but you don’t want to lose your downtown parking spot! A mix bento and an andagi for $ 5.24, what a deal!

Here’s one of the biggest plate lunch secrets in downtown: on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, Ace Express offers a scoop of kimchi fried rice for $.80. This is intended for those who would rather have kimchi fried rice rather than white rice for their lunch plates, adding $.80. But this deal is equally valid a la carte. I’d say 4 scoops would be enough for a regular kimchi fried rice entrée. OK maybe 5 scoops to be safe. That’s $ 3.20 or $ 4 for pretty much a full entrée order of kimchi fried rice. And I have to say it’s really solid. The only bad thing is that they use this canned luncheon meat in it and it’s not SPAM. It must be one of those other SPAM knock offs(who does that?). I should ask next time what kind of meat it allegedly is. Anyway, if you can get past that, it’s a great deal for really good kimchi fried rice.

I like ace because they have good selections for breakfast and lunch. They have the same chili and recipies of Zippys. Sometimes this place gets really crowded during lunchtime, but I have to say it is worth the wait. I like to eat their chef salads, and when I want something more I go for the things that I could get from Zippys. They even have the doughnuts from Zippys too. Its quick and easy and really close to the office.

I would say it is like a mini Zippy’s in downtown there’s the Napolean Bakery goodies Salads and some other meals, although I usually go there for the bakery goods and what can I say it is good doughnuts and apple turnovers that have that flaky goodness and buttery taste of the apple turnovers Yum!

You mini-Zippys downtown. Nice selection of bentos, salads, pastries and hot lunches. Has you Zippy’s staples of chilli and rice and fried chicken. Sometimes the turkey and gravy tastes off, usually try to avoid that now… Seriously, if for some reason you want your Zippy’s fix while downtown, Ace Express is there for you…
