Love it, especially the roast duck! Highly recommend those people who love duck meat.

We had been planning a 50th birthday party for my husband(the day after Christmas). But I was busy at work and a lot of the planning went to the wayside. On Christmas Eve I went to Asian Mix and placed a large order for the day after Christmas. The day of the birthday the food was ready on time! Daniel and staff helped me to the car with everything! All of our guests were super happy with the food! I had no idea how many people would show up to the party, so I bought little take out containers in case there were left overs. That was a big hit because what we did have left overs, but everyone was more than happy to take home! I should also mention that one of the reasons I chose Asian Mix was that my husband goes there fairly often for his dinner, so we already knew how great it was. :)

Really? Never go grocery shopping on an empty stomach. Well, it’s a fact that having an empty stomach will influence your food choices. The Asian Mix café is strategically located under the Safeway — Beretania Street supermarket! Asian Mix has been at this spot since the opening of this market square. It has expanded to include its own Taiwanese tea counter with its kitchen which we’ve not tried yet so this review is only for the Hong Kong-style food. We’ve been here on several occasions to try their famous Taiwanese Beef Noodle Soup, Ma Po Tofu plate and Cold Ginger Chicken &BBQ Pork Combo plate. All dishes have been flavorful and value priced($ 10& below). Their service is predominately made for takeout as they use styrofoam containers and plastic utensils. They roast whole ducks and we’ve been told that the flavor is on par with a certain Chinatown establishment. Anyway, today, we stopped into Asian Mix prior to food marketing for the week. We weren’t all that hungry so we ordered 2 bowls of their special won ton mein(Pork dumplings with Hong Kong-style noodles in soup) priced at $ 6.95 each. The friendly counter help took our order then directed us to take a seat in their outdoor patio dining area. Within a few minutes, she brought out our soup noodles that were piping hot and perfect to eat on this blustery day. The won ton(dumplings) were wrapped in delicate and thin wrappers and the noodles were cooked with a slight chew left in them. AM’s noodle dishes hit the spot and took the edge off from our hunger. We enjoyed our light snack before marketing and went off to market. Needless to say, we kept on track to our market list and weren’t tempted to purchase any more than we needed. #507

I’m trying to chase the last remnants of my cold away so the mood for a hearty, comforting bowl of noodle soup struck my soul. Taiwanese Beef Noodle Soup($ 10.99 w/tax) is available regular or spicy. The soup is packed separately for your take away order. Flat udon-like noodles garnished with generous chunks of beef, some with fatty tendon still attached to give your soup flavor. But the amount of beef they give makes me not mind it. The leathery tendon falls away easily, so no problem. Topped with cilantro, green onions & pickled leafy greens. The beefy broth is flavored with star anise & other spices. You must venture to Chinatown for the best but Asian Mix is a convenient alternative. The only thing that matters to me is that it left me full of soup slurping happiness.

Typical Americanized Chinese food with some other things like ramen and bubble tea. They have plates during lunch. Otherwise you order entrée style. Likes: Convenient location. They have the usual things you’d find at lunch. Entrée portions are decent. Dislikes: Didn’t care for the ramen. Their soda fountain is calibrated off(watery), so I’d rather go upstairs to Safeway if I want a soda with my food. Favorites: I did like the orange chicken. It’s not too sweet, but you need to eat it right away because it gets soggy fast. Not the best, not the worst. Good location.

Food is great, bubble tea is superior. I’ve had many types of bubble/boba tea before, and the tapioca pearls here are excellent. I’m not sure why or how, but it works. A must-order for me is their crispy gaugee mein — the flavors are just right and the veggies/chicken in it are so tasty and filling. I also love the salt and pepper garlic prawns — it’s so garlicky and crispy. 10⁄10 will visit again.

I go there time to time to go for service next door. The BBQ pork and duck is pretty good. You should go before 12pm if you want the best tasting Duck or the BBQ meats because sometimes they run out. I usually get the gaugees and beef chowfun platters because its so good. Nice people, the take out area is similar to pandas, however it gets low and at times need to be changed out. it gets very busy so be patience.

The former owner of Panda Cuisine on Keeaumoku open Asian Mix up a few years back. I’m not sure what the back story is but they brought the great tasty food to Asian Mix. Gone are all the famous actor/actress with the owner on the walls. Now at Asian mix it’s a small, modern looking take out joint. Asian mix is across from the T-Mobile store and it’s a small little restaurant and some tables outside. Food = A+, staff = A+, prices = A+

THEBESTROASTPORKEVER! Mind blown! I was eating it like bacon while driving to work! You have to, have to eat it fresh to really appreciate it! The skin was so crispy. Most of the fat was rendered out, and there was A LOT of meat! Most of it was meat actually! The salt was just right, small kine so you are OK just eating the meat(ate 6 slices in a row before I was like«oh ok calm down») or to eat with rice. Note: I ordered this about 15 min after they opened, so it was f-f-fresshhh. I ordered party platters for a work potluck. The process was easy and the service was great. 30 gau gee for $ 20 is the best deal around. Also ordered Chinese Chicken salad and it was simple but good. They didn’t fluff the lettuce after cutting it so that there was more lettuce to fill the bin. What I really appreciated is that the owner? youngish guy was telling me they cut slashes in the foil to let the heat out so the gau gee doesn’t sog. When I was going to stack the gau gee on the salad, he said no don’t crush it! When he gave me the roast pork, he said don’t close the bag handles together because the steam will soften the skin. I chortled — he really wants you to eat the food as it’s intended. This little spot is located in bottom floor of the safeway complex. I’m looking forward to trying their plates!

Quite a disappointment. I love Chinese food, this place was bad. $ 31.94 for Vegetable Fried Rice, Cold Ginger Chicken, Chicken Pan Fried Noodles and Gao Gee. These dishes were ordered at 7:50 and was able to pick the items up at 8:05 pm. That’s seems a bit quick for three dishes made fresh. I really do not recommend this place. I found seafood in my chicken; had I had an allergy to seafood this place would be held liable. Just stay away. Stick to Panda Express.

Every time I’m not feeling well, there are two words that come to mind. Those words are soup and rice. The best comforting combination of food ever made. 1) hot and sour soup — great for colds 2) egg drop soup — great for colds/stomach aches So all day today my stomach has been sore. Night came around and I figured it was time to try and get some food into my system. Asian mix is in a great location. Conveniently located next to Safeway. Today I picked up. 1) Seafood & tofu soup — basically egg drop soup with seafood and tofu. A bit on the bland side but I really didn’t mind. It was nice and comforting to eat for my poor tummy. $ 10 2) Honey Walnut Shrimp — I’m not well enough to eat this yet but I decided to pick it up hoping I’d feel better tomorrow. I took a look inside the box. It was a nice portion! I couldn’t help but take a bite. I don’t care for the walnuts. it’s too greasy with the sauce but it taste excellent with the shrimp. $ 13 3) Rice — can be purchased as a side in either the $ 1 box or $ 2 box. It’s packed into the traditional Chinese takeout boxes. 4) Honey lemon green tea — I decided to pick up a drink while I was waiting for my food. The drink is delicious! So refreshing and not too sweet. I shouldn’t have got boba inside though. she put too much. $ 4 Overall great service, friendly staff, great location! One of the workers opened the door for me while I left the store. Workers are friendly and attentive to all customers. Food came out quickly. Mahalo!

On the way home from work, not wanting to go out of the way for food, ended up stopping in at this place conveniently located right underneath Safeway. When I walked in, I was immediately greeted by the distinct and nostalgic smell of roasting animals which built up pretty high hopes for the food I was about to order. Ironically, I didn’t get any duck but in hindsight, probably should have. Ordered three dishes to bring home: sweet sour pork, mabo tofu, and crispy gau gee noodles. Another customer in front of me ordered around three bags of food, so this held up the kitchen a whole lot. Can’t really blame the restaurant for that, but it did give me enough time to entirely finish the milk tea I bought. The mabo tofu was a little on the bland side; it needed a little more spice and seasoning in it. On the plus side, it had a lot of meat in it. The noodles were flavorful and crispy. They put bok choy on top which was nicer than the choy sum most places use. The gau gee filling had a weird airy texture but was still not the worst I’ve had. The sweet sour pork was your typical gwailo Chinese dish with red sauce and pineapples– pretty good. Overall, not bad, worth it if you’re lazy and in the area.

One of my favorite places to grab some quick chinese food! Although they could get quite busy during lunch, the workers are very efficient. Asian Mix by far had the best roast duck on the island. And yes, even compared to all the places that offer it in Chinatown. I am very picky about my roast duck. It has to be somewhat crispy on the outside, moist on the inside, and it has to be very flavorful. I personally think that this is the only place on the island that makes authentic Hong Kong style roast duck. When I come here during lunch, I almost always order my favorite combo… roast duck and char siu on rice! They give you a hefty amount of rice, a decent amount of meat, and a good amount of choi sum also. If ordering ala carte, my favorites include Lamb with Fresh Leek and Pork Chop with Salt & Pepper. Another dish that I would consider pretty well made is their Beef Chow Funn. Once in while, i would also pick up a milk tea from them too. My usual would be the milk green tea. Since they tend to make their drinks on the sweeter side, i always ask for half the sweetness. All in all, they offer relatively good and authentic chinese food at reasonable prices.

Been here four or five times I forget which… Can’t decide if I like their food or not. Some dishes just don’t taste right. Guess it’s a hit or miss and need to order the right thing. I still need to go back to try the beef noodle the pictures make me drool. Roadtrip to town!

Asian Mix is located on the bottom of the Beretania Safeway. I’ve eaten here a few times and the food is good. It’s more authentic than some other Chinese take out spots. The food is of a higher caliber. A friend got a two entrée plate, consisting of ginger onion chicken and roast duck on rice. I didn’t know that you could get this since it wasn’t on the menu. I guess you can customize your plate. The roast duck had a hoisin sauce glaze on it. The skin was crispy and the meat was tender. The ginger onion chicken was lukewarm. I don’t know if the chicken itself was warm, or it was warm from sitting on the bed of white rice. That was perfectly fine with me. I’d prefer it warm than chilled, like how most places serve it. Ginger onion chicken wouldn’t be ginger onion chicken without the sauce that they put on it. The sauce makes the dish. They do a remarkable job of the sauce here. The balance between the ginger, onion and oil was perfect. It wasn’t overly salty. The ginger was minced just enough to where you couldn’t taste chunks of it. I took off a star because the fowls were on the smaller side. There were a lot of bones but hardly any meat. The plate was finished off with choy sum surrounding the plate.

CRAZY about the milk tea; not so much the food. Tried the roast duck with look fun soup and salt&pepper pork. Would not get the soup again or recommend to anyone(would rather just get the duck by itself and even that probably won’t happen) and would only get the salt&pepper pork if I was desperate for food right then and there — good, but I can live without it. Service is pretty typical for Chinese takeout; the cashier can seem extremely rude and impatient when ordering so best to know what you want before you get to the counter. Sticking to the milk tea side only.

Panda Express cannot hold a candle to Asian Mix, which has your choice of Asian Mix plate as well as made-to-order dishes. Asian Mix Plates are: $ 5.75 for 1 side + 1 choice; $ 7.45 for 1 side + 2 choices; $ 8.95 for 1 side + 3 choices. Available Daily from 10:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. only. That may be an obstacle to those Nine-to-Fivers looking for an excuse not to cook dinner. I opted for a made-to-order: fish fillet with vegetables for $ 10.95 plus tax. It was excellent, restaurant quality fish and vegetables, chock full of those nice greens instead of the cheap vegetables like onion, bean sprouts and celery. The Asian Mix version delights with healthy, iron-rich broccoli, baby bok choy and carrots with tender boneless fish fillet tossed with garlic. The portion is generous enough for you to enjoy a second time. They also serve specialty teas, lattes and coffees, with or without tapioca pearls, and smoothies, priced in the $ 3.00−5.00 range. Parking is stress-free in the Safeway parking lot accessible from Beretania or Piikoi streets. There is an outdoor seating area, on either side of the restaurant, if you can’t wait to go home to eat.

This review is only for the strawberry milk tea: 2 stars — I was really thirsty and my son was willing to share with me, but sorry to say that of all the teas I bought or had my son make, this is the worst I’ve ever tasted. This tea tasted very synthetic, powdery and sour at the same time, and did not blend well at all, so we both couldn’t finish it. I would give it a 1 star but the girl who served it was really nice, thus another star for service, but after spending $ 4, I’m still thirsty.. .

This is a conveniently located fast food Chinese food place with a lot of customers within walking distance from their condo/apartments or the neighboring businesses. I had the chow fun and orange chicken as a one choice take out lunch. It was okay. I like my chow fun with more soy flavor and my orange chicken less salty. It wasn’t the worst Chinese food I’ve eaten and it is a convenient place to go. They have ramen and bubble tea drinks which seem to be popular as well. What I’d really like to try is the roast duck the next time I have to bring something for potluck. It sounds to be authentic in flavor — as close as it gets to «real» roast duck according to some of my Chinese friends. I’ll definitely be back to try that and a bubble drink or two.
