Avance’ Salon

Worst salon I have ever been to, save yourself some time and money and do not go here. These stylist have no clue what they are doing and really messed up my color and cut and when I mentioned it they acted like oh well. It is also way over priced. I recommend going somewhere else with your money, you can find much better places on the island.

I love Avance! I’ve been all over the country but always miss Tammie and Avance when I’m gone. I’m so happy to be back now so I can see Tammie for my hair again!

KELLIE IS MINE! Is that inappropriate to virtually shout that?
By nature, I’m a creature of habit. When I find someone, something, someplace I like, I like to go back, over and over. As a merchant, that’s a great thing because you’ll have a repeat customer for life as long as I’m happy. And truly… I’m very easy to please. Great customer service, value for the product or service and cleanliness is really all I need. If I’m recognized as a repeat customer and you throw me a bone occasionally, I’ll advocate for you and advertise for free so it brings in new clients or customers for you /​your business. I promise I’m try not to be obnoxious when I’m the duchess of an establishment (other than shouting at the top of my lungs, «I’M THE DUCHESS BITCHES!!!» Okay, okay… I don’t really shout it. I speak it loudly. In my mind. Unless there’s someone I know with me. Then, I actually verbalize it but only so the party I’m with, hears me. Unless I’m tipsy… because then, I may be loud and obnoxious, period. But I digress… where was I?
Oh yeah… so, confession time. I don’t know why but I can’t seem to find a hairdresser that I’m completely happy with. In my adult life, the average life span of a hair stylist I frequent is about 3 – 4 years. I’ve had one as long as 6 years but no one longer than that. Kellie is the 5^th hair stylist I’ve gone to and I believe I have found «the one.» I wish I could credit Unilocal for finding her… but WAIT! Actually, indirectly, it WAS Unilocal that led me to Kellie! Here’s how… I used to go to Adrienne to do my nails, who used to work in the Avance Salon. I found Adrienne through Unilocal.When I had another one of my hair stylist A.D.D. moments and asked who Adrienne would recommend so I could increase some efficiency in my life and make one stop whenever I wanted to do hair and nails, she recommended Kellie. THANK YOU Unilocal! See, maybe all roads do lead back to Unilocal.
Anyway, Kellie is absolutely awesome. Talk about great customer service… she styles my hair for no extra charge, she remembered details about our conversation when I only started with her 3 months ago and she is SO easy to talk with. I feel like I’m catching up with a friend that does my hair well. She’s very easy going and is not afraid to provide her expertise whenever you’re on the fence on what to do with your hair. Highly recommend!

If you’re a dude looking for a place that is easy to get to, tons of parking and an amazing haircut, then this is the place to come! Debs is an amazing stylist. She also has great products for sale. Nowadays it’s so hard to find the right place to get a haircut. Her prices are more than reasonable. Try it out you won’t be disappointed!

This place is awesome. I see Cheryl and she is fantastic. I go to her and always ask her opinion about what I should do with my hair and she has great feedback. I always like how my hair turns out. She does a great color as well. So far I haven’t been disappointed. It does not feel awkward or uncomfortable there. I will continue to go there.
The place is really easy to find. Depending on what time you go, the parking is usually ample and are all marked.

This place is number one in my book. Everyone is friendly and the owner Debra always has a smile for you. They have very professional stylist for every need, even mani and pedi’s.

Like going to my friends’ house.

Everyone!!! See Emi!!! I have been going to Emi since high school and she is awesome! She will use her expertise to make your hair the way you want it and I swear on the bible that she will make your hair gorgeous! Get your hair done by Emi and you will not regret it!

My mom and sister introduced me to the salon a few years back and it is the only place I’ll go to get my hair done!
Deb and Emi are AWESOME! I’m at the point where I don’t even need to look in the mirror when I leave because I know my hair looks perfect :] Deb showed me ideas on how to put my hair up for an upcoming interview, and how to trim my bangs myself ;]
The salon gives off a very friendly vibe… It’s clean and everyone around is super friendly! Theres a lot of parking just for Avance customers on the second level of the structure.

Love this salon! Been going to Avance since they first opened up @ Ward, then Kaimuki, now Kapiolani! Sharon Nakamoto is the best– such attention to detail! The whole staff is friendly & complimentary. Good & positive! It’s a family of creative minds! Highly recommend Avance Salon!

I’m super fussy about the salon I call home. My stylist has to cut well, be an expert colorist and the salon has to FEEL right. Clean, comfortably chic, fun dialogue. It took me over five years to find the right salon and I am soooo happy I found Debs at Avance!!!

It’s been almost exactly 4 months since I saw Cheryl and it was time to finish cutting off the dead ends that remained after my last battle with bleach. I guess I should have been more fair and taken a better before picture (see photos here:
) — but I was in a rush. The cut was still solid — but my hair was such a mess from MY home color jobs that without some effort it was just a fuzzy mess. Plus it was just time to get it done!
As usual, Cheryl was super cool and explained what she was doing and why. I pretty much gave her free range — with just a photo to give her an idea of the over all feel. Long story short, she worked at my hair until we were both happy AND got the approval of my husband who was waiting for me. Patiently.
Flat out, I normally hate getting my hair cut. Hate it. But Cheryl is ²⁄₂. I promised her that I would stop coloring my own hair (drastic changes anyway) and would see her every 6 weeks. She has a maintenance program which must work, because my sister goes to her every 4 – 6 weeks and her hair always looks great. We’ve decided mine is a work in progress — but I have to say that this is the best my hair has looked in a very long time.
If you read my original Unilocal!review below, I have to clarify that Avance’ has two sections. The main salon, which is pretty standard and the back room, which I still think feels like the garage. But a friend’s cool hangout garage. I’ve been to most of the top salons on the island in search of a good stylist and have gone to owners and «master» stylists. Their technique may be more refined and the environment uncomfortably posh, but I was never satisfied. I rather go somewhere I feel comfortable and to someone who is going to be straight with me and actually CARE about my crazy head of hair. Seriously, just because something is fancy doesn’t make it the best. Find what’s best for you — who’s best for you — and go with it.

Style is important, and Avance Salon gets it right. A group of individual stylists that are skilled and can offer great advice for stylish hair. My personal stylist is Sharon Namahoe and my family has been going to her for years now and she’s such an awesome person.
She is very skilled in long and short hair. She talks up a good story and really gets to know you while she’s cutting your hair. But whether you are getting styled by Sharon or another stylist, the atmosphere is very friendly and fun.
I think they also have someone that does nails in the salon but i cannot comment on her skills simply because i’ve never had my nails done. :)
Anyways if you are looking for new stylist, and something other than fantastic sams or supercuts, give Avance a try. I guarantee you won’t be disappointed. :)

EMI! I’ve been having my hair cut & colored by Emi for over a year and recommend her to anyone who is looking for a modern/​hip style and coloring by a fun stylist!

She is the best Colorist I’ve ever been to and I’ve been to the best. She is really worth a try… Plus they sell Morrocan Hair products that are excellant for dry hair and making it shiny. Thanxs again, I look UNBELIEVABLE thanxs to you.
