From firsthand experience, let me stress how important it is to shop around and do your homework to save yourself the misery and pain that I went through.
I was referred to this jewelry store by a family member who is heavily involved in the annual Chinese Narcissus pageants and has known Mabel Lau for quite a few years.
I had been looking to purchase myself a nice diamond ring, and Mabel had a variety from which to choose. This was a big deal for me, having never purchased a really expensive piece of jewelry for myself before, so I was really excited to do business with someone who I believed to be trust-​worthy and reputable.
Well, I wore the ring for about a year and decided to sell it since I was in the process of moving and preferred to have the cash … Imagine my shock and awe when I took it to a few reputable jewelers (NOT cash for gold spots) to have it looked at and appraised. Sadly, the ring that I bought from Mabel for close to $ 3k was appraised at less than $ 200, and upon closer inspection, it was discovered that the diamonds were incredibly flawed and not even relatively close to being worth what I paid! I can only imagine all the other folks who have bought jewelry from her thinking that they purchased a high-​quality piece, but instead are just throwing their money away.
The ring did NOT come with any kind of paperwork or certification (which should have been a red flag) … but I trusted Mabel’s representation of her jewelry (she is also GIA certified) and she really talked up the piece by saying that the diamonds were of excellent quality. It is totally unethical and incredibly bad business practice to misrepresent jewelry and take advantage of clients who trust you to deliver them a good product for their hard earned money.
If I could give this business ZERO or negative stars, I absolutely would not hesitate. This business is nothing close to EXCELLENT, in fact it is the exact opposite. Poor quality and heavily overpriced jewelry — not worth its weight in gold.
