I love this little farmers market and am excited about the possibilities. What I love most about this market is that they only feature produce that is Non-GMO and grown without pesticides, and even some that is organic, like wonderful Haloa Farms. They are also making strides to be as green a market as possible… most vendors use no plastic and no styrofoam. It is for this effort that they get 5 stars from me! We like the vibe of the Friday night market, there’s a nice hangout scene, and often some live music. But we often go Saturday morning as well. The advantage of Saturday morning is that Baker Dude has freshly baked croissants: ham and cheese, asparagus and parmesan and luscious chocolate croissants. We were there for the grand opening last Saturday and easily bought enough greens, fruits and veggies for the week, plus local eggs, beautiful local fish and fresh local beef from Molokai! We can’t go to the market without getting some Hawaiian coffee, and some of Samsha’s tea and juice with pure squeeze sugar cane juice(try the lilikoi!). Last weekend was also the debut of the Green Being food truck, which features some very tasty chicken Pad Thai(they also serve a vegan version). The Logan family has homemade chicken and pork laulau every Friday and Saturday, too. We became totally burned out on the other big Saturday market and the hassle of the crowds and parking. This market has tons of free, easy parking, and you can actually talk story with your farmers and food artisans and get to know them, because it’s not overrun with tourists. It’s a small, sweet market that needs more shoppers. Some shoppers came when they first opened and there were only a couple of farmers with fresh produce… as of last week there were lots more farmers. I really encourage folks to support this market… the farmers take a huge hit when they come with their wares and nobody comes to shop. It’s a chicken or egg thing, but there are a small, mighty band of farmers and food artisans down in Kaka’ako who have built it so you will come!

A Farmers Market+ fresh caught local fish, free-range O’ahu eggs and Non-GMO produce. Lots of fantastic fresh prepared foods also made with local non-GMO produce. Live music, spontaneous hula, guest performances. Each week different community groups share their programs on the environment, Hawaiian culture and making Hawai’i healthy and sustainable.
