Baby back ribs? I haven’t had ribs for a while. I would have not tried here if it wasn’t a Yaycinch popup alert event. Buy any plate for a free obi belt! I’m in! Food truck is located at the Eat The Street area. When there’s a line, the wait can be long. I was debating whether to order the chicken or the bbq back ribs. Since this place is known for bbq back ribs, I got that. The plate was about $ 10~ and came with a scoop of rice, choice of mac salad or toss salad, and 4 pieces of bbq back ribs. The food was hot. The back ribs was tangy and sweet… too sweet. The sauce was thick. I was kind of full after 2 ribs. I have a small appetite.

Found them today at Makers & Tasters on Ala Moana. Based upon the other Unilocaler reviews, I wanted to try their BBQ Baby Back Ribs and finally got a chance to give them a try. When my son and I pulled-up, we started to check-out the menu and there were so many things that looked good, that it made my selection that much more difficult. However, I stuck to my guns and ordered the BBQ Baby Back Ribs, Mac Salad and rice. My son ordered the Pulehu Beef Short Ribs, Mac Salad and rice. The ribs were cooked perfectly and the meat felll off the bone. The BBQ sauce was very flavorful and had the right amount of tanginess to it. I even found myself scraping the ribs to get as much sauce on them as possible. I also liked how they make their Mac Salad. It’s made with spaghetti style noodles and red potatoes, which I thought was a nice touch. My son enjoyed his Pulehu Beef Short Ribs as well. They were cooked perfectly, tender and tasty. I thought it was a good value, considering how much food you get and how much the meals cost. Service was very friendly and quick. I’ll have to come by upon another trip to Honolulu to try some of the other entrees that looked ono. But, I’m very happy I had a chance to try the ribs and would definitely recommend them.

I’ve been eyeing this place for awhile, but since they are only open till 2:30pm on weekdays, I haven’t been able to. However, today I was free and decided to finally try them out at Makers and Tasters near Ward. I got their«Trust Us» special with Mac salad and krazy rice. Total was about $ 17. I liked different aspects about the plate, so I think I’ll just rate each part: RIBS: 5⁄5: the sauce was nice and sweet and tangy and I found myself picking up every bit of the sauce… And the meat was nice and tender and not too fatty. I got 3 meaty pieces in my plate. GARLICSHRIMP: 4⁄5: better than some other places on the island, but it cannot beat Giovannis or Fumis on the north shore sadly.(If they were on par, I’d come here every week lol). The shrimp is served with the shell on so don’t forget to suck on the shell because that’s where all the flavor is! MACSALAD: 5⁄5: I don’t even like Mac salad, and I hate mayo, but I actually enjoyed this a lot… Although it may be because I was using it to make my mouth less spicy from the rice lol KRAZYRICE: 3⁄5: speaking of the rice, this was my least favorite part. To me, it was way too spicy(taste was a mix between Bba, Cajun and Korean, but in my opinion, it tasted spicier than kim chi fried rice lol). Luckily I had a drink and a Mac salad to even out the flavor. Overall, I’m glad I finally tried this place. If I’m really craving garlic shrimp and don’t want to go to the north shore, this is a good place, and when you come here, you MUST get the ribs! I would only recommend the krazy rice if you like spicy food. Oh and one more thing: they take credit cards! Yay

The ribs are good but the sauce is to sweet. The mac was not made the real way. It was made with spaghetti noodles. Also it didn’t come with a drink.

Saw a buddies instagram about this food truck and I needed to attempt it. Took the experience down to Kapahulu Avenue to where the old Shell gas station used to be. They turned it into a lunch truck food court. A lot of variety, but I came here specially for Kaukau Grill. The Mr. and I lunched on pulehu kalbi and garlic shrimp. The owner even slid us some bits of spare ribs to attempt. Everything was tasty, down to the green salad and mac salad. Definitely worth the drive and I ‘ll definitelt return to try their other delectable things.

My love for this food truck cannot be exaggerated. Get the combo($ 15) it’s not worth it for a regular plate($ 10). Tossed salad is lovely spinach with a tasty vinaigrette. Baby back ribs are the best damn ribs on the island! Period. The garlic ahi is heavenly– seriously the garlic is seared into a crust of magnificence. My sister makes grunting noises of delight when she eats the garlic shrimp here. Skip the smoke meat– the other stuff is so much better. They charge tax– weird since other food trucks don’t but I can deal.

Just had the K Special, BBQ Ribs and Spicy Poke plate, with Potato Mac Salad and it made me want to Unilocal bumbye I forget(to Unilocal,I won’t ever forget the taste)! Don’t blink or make like at the price because it’s totally worth it. If I could have went straight to sleep on the pier, I’d have to write to Unilocal corporate for a 6th star option because this was so fricking amazing!

After checking out everyone’s review, decided on trying this lunch truck out. Never in my life ever heard of a plate lunch with 1 scoop rice, didn’t know until I got to my office and open my plate, come on we live in Hawaii and RICE is our staple. Waited forever!!!, lastly they gave to little pieces of there Garlic Ahi. DONOTGOTOTHISPLACE, WHAT A RIPOFF. Paid $ 10.47, this actually was worth maybe $ 4.75. Just needed to add that they charge tax. Wow first impression is everything and this is the last ever going to this so called lunch truck, they should change there name to. YOULIKELOOSEWEIGHT, DENCUMEATHEA!

Omg I have been wanting to try Kau Kau grill for a long time! Ever since I heard they are at makers and tasters during the lunch time and ONLY during lunch. I have been waiting for a random weekday off and finally the day came. I went with a friend before we had to study and damm this was worth it! I really wanted to try the shory ribs and garlic shrimp combo but over $ 17 is a little too steep for my college student budget but then I saw was that they had smoked meat! I was sold. I got the smoked meat and garlic shrimp combo! I know they are known for their BBQ ribs but since my friend was getting it(lol) Omg the smoked meat and garlic shrimp was delicious! It was worth it! So flavorful and tender! It was so easy to get the shrimp skin off and it was so tasty! Also they have spaghetti Mac salad which was awesome! I was so happy that I finally got a chance to try this awesome food truck! Now that I know where these guys are. My next random weekday off, I’m going to try to come here again.

Great place! Needed the experience down to Kapahulu Avenue to where the Layer gas-station that was aged was once. It was turned by them right into a lunch pickup food court. A lot of variety I arrived here especially for Kaukau Grill. The Mr. and that I lunched on garlic shrimp and pulehu kalbi. The dog owner even slid us some pieces of extra ribs to try. Everything was delicious, down to the green salad and mac salad. Definitely worth the travel and I may definitelt go back to try their different delicious items.

This food truck was LOCATED at Makers & Tasters(old Fisherman’s wharf) in Jan 2016, check their social media because I don’t know their hours/locations since it’s a food truck. You gotta trust me and get the: «TRUSTME combo» $ 15 BBQRIBS and GARLICSHRIMP — best ribs EVER. EVERRRRR. The garlic shrimp was also as good or better than those trucks up north shore. Spinach salad was fresh and keeps it semi-healthy. Nothing else to say. Just go check them out!

I have only ever tried their garlic shrimp plate but it’s sooo ono! They are my go-to spot at Eat the Street and Makers & Tasters(I’ve never been to their original location, I just go to them when they’re at events.) Their portions and prices are fair, and their workers are very nice and welcoming. The wait for your food isn’t very long at all. And I also love that the shrimp shells are half open because it ensures that the shrimp is well-seasoned(plus it’s quicker to peel lol.) The shrimp plate comes with some rice and salad(but I’m not sure what kine salad dressing though). I believe the plate is about $ 10(or was it $ 12?). Anyways, their food truck is white with«Kau Kau Grill» written in the side. Besides shrimp, they also offer other things like BBQ ribs and poke bowls. I definitely love their shrimp and I definitely recommend!

Friendly service at Kau Kau grill food truck! Monday’s I see them in down town area literally on the sidewalk. Today they are next to the Pan Am building off of Kapiolani Blvd and their fresh sashimi grade spicy poke on hot white rice is so yummy! Quick service and very good quality fish! I love it!
