I went to see this doctor as a new patient after finding her name on the HMSA Find a Doctor feature. I was able to make an eye exam appointment with her very quickly, within 2 weeks of calling. When I entered her office, no one greeted me or said hi, instead I had to say hi to them, weird? Dr. Linda Arakaki is very robotic, not relatable or personable. When I voiced my concerns to her about my eyes, she didn’t address them, rather just continued typing on her laptop. Maybe she didn’t know the answer to them? I had to break the awkward silence by asking her if an eye vitamin can help with the problem I’m having. The eye exam was carried out and I thought it was bizarre of her to take my contacts in and out with her bare hands(after using her laptop) multiple times. Can’t you get eye infections doing that? In the conclusion of the exam, a different lady helped me at the front desk with my copayment. She told me my copayment was $ 20, which is usually how much I’ve been paying at my old eye doctor’s office. She charged my debit card and then tells me, oh wait I’m sorry it’s actually $ 50, $ 30 more for the CONTACTLENSFITTINGFEE. Why wasn’t I told of this stupid fee before the services were rendered? I made the appointment thinking it would be a $ 20 basic eye exam. I paid hesitantly, she had to void the prior transaction and re-charge me $ 50. I called the office later that day after realizing how nickeled and dimed I felt. They told me that someone was supposed to tell me of the fees, especially since I was a new patient but they forgot(not my fault) but still expected me to pay the fee. After clarifying with her office, this fee applies to everyone that wears contact lens. They told me the only way I’d get a refund is to give them back the trial contact lens, the used contact lens(gross!), and the prescriptions she wrote for me. I had no problem with that but they began harassing me and constantly calling me while I’m at work asking me when I will be coming in even though I told them sometime this week, they were very unprofessional. I soon realize how greedy this doctor is because after looking at the contact lens prescriptions she wrote me, she only prescribed me for 6 weeks worth. What does she expect me to do after 6 weeks? Come back to see her again for another prescription so she can charge me and my insurance company again? I’ve been wearing contact lens for over 8 years, yet she treated me as if I am new to wearing them. I told them that my prescription hasn’t changed and that she shouldn’t be charging me this fee and if I knew there was a fee I wouldn’t have asked her to prescribe me contact lens. I told her in the beginning I’m here to see her because I need new glasses and said nothing about contact lens. On the day I came in to pick up the refund and drop off all the stuff she gave me, they didn’t have the refund ready because there was no doctor to sign the check. There was no courtesy call whatsoever and pretty much came for nothing. They had all this time to call me everyday and harassing me, asking me when will I pick up the check but fail to get the check signed. What the hell are the workers even doing there? Anyway, Dr. Linda Arakaki is the type of doctor that wants to charge you every way she can for every«service» she provide, quantity of service and not quality of service. She is not someone that will listen to your concerns or care to hear them. My suggestion is to avoid her because you are just a number to her.

One of the best optometrists I’ve been to(and with wearing contact lenses since 6th grade, I’ve seen a lot of them lol). She’s personable and approachable, which is always great considering how appointments with any type of doctor can be the setting for an awkward situation. I also appreciate the location of her Honolulu office(Eye Care Associates of Hawaii), which is in the Ala Moana building. It’s walking distance from my house and pretty much next door to the mall(my favorite place)!
