Lotus Sound Bar

Good place to go if you are single and looking to meet some people: be sure to dance hard and enjoy the bartender downstairs as it better than trying to get a good drink upstairs. Expect a night club atmosphere and you will be just fine!

Happened to wonder over to LOTUS since I had never been. It would seem I fell upon a private party. Just my kind of luck! The friendly door guy said I am not supposed to let anyone in but you look pretty cool. Well all riiiiight…
The dueling DJs were thumping and there were some great dance moves on the dance floor. 2 guys started break dance fighting at one point. It ended on a light note. The drinks were cheap and the tunes were awesome. So grab a beat and move your feet on over to LOTUS.

was hanging out at the ohia student housing one night, and my friends decided to go to lotus, since it’s right there… my friend worked there, so we thought it’d be a good idea. heard some good stuff about it. hot guys, hot girls… good music. well, the music was good. but that night we went there were so many older people. it was 18+ and there were tons of creepers. girls not hot, guys not hot. people throwing up everywhere. it was a mess.
i only give it 3 stars because the music was good…

This place is better than a lot of 18 and over clubs. ESPECIALLY Zanzabar.
Cover is usually ranges from $ 10 – 20, I remember coming here when I was 18 and having to pay more.
This place is set up pretty interestingly. Downstairs is kind of a lounging area, sometimes they play foreign films on the wall, complete with a bar. Upstairs there are two rooms complete with bars. One is a big room that has a stage and a medium-​sized dance floor. The other room is smaller, has couches and a dance floor. I don’t know if it’s just me but this room seems pretty dark. There’s also another lounging area connecting the two rooms with lots of couches. If you’re lucky, you can score a seat but they’re usually taken up by the «VIP.»
Now the only thing I like about Lotus is that they have a variety of music, on the same night. Usually different rooms are featuring a music genre like last time I went downstairs they were playing house music (they always play really great house music here, the only reason why I go!) and it was very chill, no pressure, no hoes. Upstairs was more of the mainstream hip hop, stuff I can’t stand but it does show range for the club.
I remember out of the times I visited there, they were have a some kind of rap battle and it was actually very good. They do play some good underground hip hop.
Not really my type of crowd with the wiggas and stuff but whatever.
Their Sex on the beach is really good.

Lotus’ best attribute is its hip-​hop music, and next is the above average sound system, but not its female: male ratio. FYI Its reputation as a hip-​hop club makes the crowd predominantly black/​hispanic (about 80−90% especially on Saturdays, the worst night sadly, theyre either all black or completely empty) cover ranges from $ 10 – 20 which is unjustifiable most nights, try going to the bar in the back because you have a shorter wait
With all that being said, the best nights for variety I have seen going here are on Fridays and sometimes Thursday especially if they have a special event going on… last thing, in my experience look at the line outside the door, if there are nothing but dudes walking in there = bad ratio, or if the line is less than 5 people = its probably extremely empty, as the bouncers over-​control the line when its got people inside

After reading some reviews I thought this place would be decent since it’s 18+ friendly. Considering it was a Saturday night we thought it would be poppin, more like a crap load of cellulite @$$es and bellies poppin. Literally there was a preggo girl who look like she was ready to pop her baby out on the dance floor.
We came to dance but the music was not good consistent flow for dancing, it was like fast then slowish. Dance floor was double whack in both rooms with no one really dancing. We arrived at 11ish and the place was dead, since we paid cover ($ 10 for 21+, $ 15 for 18+) we decided to wait it out to see if it would get more livelier, well… it did NOT! Left before 1 and it was still whack. I hate admitting I wasted money getting into this lame joint. Also when we paid cover they had some policy about keeping my friends ID at the door (apparently cause she is not 21) and when we leave she can reclaim it, stupid policy much.
Ugh thinking about this place makes me irritated that I wasted a cute outfit.

Lotus Sound Bar is a decent choice if you’re in or around Waikiki.
I’m sure I can’t be the only one, but I have no idea what a Sound Bar is. Maybe it’s a reference to the first floor, where there’s a bar and lounge-​ish? Lounge-​ish because the seating arrangement are all around rectangular tables — great for groups I suppose, not what I think of a lounge though…
The upstairs is a mix of 18+ and 21+. Because it’s 18+, you can’t bring drinks from the first floor up the stairs, nor can you bring them to the dance floor. The third floor was closed, and despite it being three floors, is very small — it feels crowded even though there’s not many people there. This is a great for ordering drinks, you can expect no longer than a couple minute wait even at peak times. This does make it horribly inconvenient and we found ourselves stuck to one floor the entire night.
On peak times, Saturday night the crowds seemed to flow in around 11pm-​1am. It’s open until 4am with drinks and the crowd is friendly, seemed to be mostly mainland tourists. They were playing some electronic in the early parts of the evening, giving way to mostly rap. The crowd was mixed, with the exception of those under 21, was perhaps 21 – 25.
They do have a habit of holding the line, it can be a good 15 – 30 minutes before you enter early in the night and longer as the night wears on. This must have been annoying for folks coming in late — at one point I left to get something to eat and came back 45 minutes later and still saw some of the same people in the line. Fortunately for me, I had gotten there much earlier.
If you’re in Waikiki, it’s a good place to go. Otherwise, I’d skip out and go someplace else.

Let’s just say this place is VERY comparable to a high school dance.

Lotus and the Diamond Head W Hotel are my two favorite places in Honolulu to party!
The first floor has a bar with a DJ who spins top Hip-​Hop and Reggae hits while the second floor has a more spacious dancefloor with a DJ playing electronic music.

Relative to the experience, the $ 15 cover on Thursday night was not worth it.
People
Too many sleaze bags/​douchebags. As a guy, I felt dirty being in that place with those kinds of guys, especially after seeing how they treated my girlfriends, I was getting pissed and it just didn’t make the night fun. There were also a bunch of titas that wanted to throw down with my girlfriends after they accidentally bumped each other on the dance floor… chill out ladies… seemed more like a pipeline clientele than anything

The music was ok… my friend had hyped it up a lot more and the hype wasn’t justified… same kind of music as any other club I thought

I spent NYE 2009 at Lotus, the place is a pretty cool venue, we had a table in the house music room and we received good service from our hostess. The music was hit or miss, the crowd was much better than I expected from a tourist town in a tourist area. I liked the late night partying with drinking going past two, why doesn’t San Francisco do this!?!
If your down to go to a club, listen to music and get your dance on, I would suggest Lotus, if that isn’t your thing then I would go somewhere else.

OMFG. This was one of the most terrifying clubbing experiences I have ever had. Ever.
My friend and I go here on a Friday night around 10 pm. Cover is $ 10. Um yeah, ok, whatever.
So, we go in and the place is packed with the most ghetto crowd ever. There is a couple completely making out on one of the couches. Dudes, get a room.
The music is whack. The sound system sounded like a cat dying.
I have never seen so many freaky freaks in one place. They were just grinding on whoever and whatever. It wasn’t that big either, but I heard there was an upstairs that opens at 11 pm. No way in hell was I gonna last an hour in this hell.
We had one drink and bucked. Guess what? Right before we left, ALL the people left. Like the entire party at the club all knew each other. No wonder it was so scary.
$ 10 my ass. And to top if off, I came in here drunk and left sober.

I came here under the recommendation of a classmate who dj’s here once and a while without knowing what to expect.
I’m from San Diego, and was looking for a place to go out to with good house music and definitely wasn’t disappointed. The opening dj was really good (dj darren) and the dance floor was filled with people looking to get down. As someone who really loves to dance – I had a great time here. The dj who followed the opening guy was kind of all over the place, but compared to San Diego the drinks were a good price and the atmosphere made up for it.
If you’re in Wakiki and are in search of a cool bar with a decent dance floor, this is a good choice. I’ve been told that it’s won awards for it’s sound system and I agree that it was definitely decent.

My friend always wants to go here and we do but I normally end up wanting to «club hop» around 1:30pm-2pm b/​c it doesn’t get that crowded. Maybe this is why she likes this place b/​c people are never jammed pack like sardines. And beware of the couches, you will want to fall asleep. They are comfortable. The music is a hit or miss. Drinks are too expensive, especially if you’re getting mostly cranberry juice!
The last time I came was two weeks ago and it was DEAD! Came here with two of my girlfriends (one was visiting from Texas). Tiki’s, RumFire, and Lotus was just not doing it for us. We ended up at a gay club and had the best time. Of course they played AWESOME music! What were we thinking?

If you are used to the club scene in LA, New York, or Las Vegas, then you may be satisfied by Lotus Sound Bar. There’s a tiny downstairs, but the main floor is upstairs with 2 dance floors and a couple of bars. There is also table service, which is a bargain, if you are used to the going rates at some of the ultra-​clubs in larger cities.
There is a pretty full event calendar, and the two dance floors have different music playing — the night I went was hip hop and house.
Being located in Waikiki, you get the tourist crowd, but you will also get some younger locals.
For a fun night out while on vacation, it’s hard to beat the convenience of Lotus on Kuhio, which is walking distance to almost every major Waikiki hotel. If you are looking for a more regular club scene, then Pearl in the Ala Moana Center may be more of a fit.

Alcohol at clubs until 4am! Tough coming back to SF.

Drinks could be cheaper. when it first opened i went there with a few of my friends and the cover was 10 dollars i believe. When my friend showed the cashier his military ID, she said it was 20 dollars for military. when asked why we were told its because most of the trouble caused is usually by military members. As true as this might be, its an insult and wrong. So get me right, if my friend came back from Iraq with a bullet whole in his leg and cant walk right, he is going to have to pay more to get into a club, that’s ridiculous. oh well
save your money for this Mainland wanna be gay ass sound Bar.
