Saw these guys in Unilocal and figured I give them a try since they’re so close to home and saw good reviews so I decided to give them a try since my safety was about to expire in a few days. They told me their next open appointment wasn’t until the 1^st of December, but I was talking to the owner who I think it was and he told me «you know what? I’ll take care of you right now soon as this car leaves» instant five stars for you guys. I was in and out in 15 – 20 mins. Awesome customer service and convenient! Support The Locals! I highly recommend these guys for anyone that needs to do their safety or maintenance!

took my 2000 GMC Sierra pick up in as it was having issues with the fuel system. had the work done somewhere else only because I was in Kailua and had no other choice. LOng story short, they did a great job, the charge was less than I expected and I was called to be advised that there were some other minor things that should be taken care of. I basically gave them the green light to fix anything that needed fixing and sometimes that can be a mistake. But when I got the final bill, was very please. Great service, good price and I left there feeling satisfied. My Dad had taken his car there for many years.

I had a great experience here. Just brought the car in for general maintenance and they were thorough and straight up on the charges– nothing out of the ordinary and I think the oil and coolant changes were priced pretty low. I made an appointment 3 weeks ahead of time because they had great reviews on Unilocal– and I’m glad I did.

Wow. I just read all these great reviews about this place, and how booked they are but willing to help out in a jam. Not for me. I called and explained that my car was dead and I needed to get it in somewhere soon. The lady just said «Sorry, we’re booked solid until September 18^th». Guess I’ll try somewhere else. :-(

Followed the Unilocal review suggestions and made an appointment to complete my safety check. I happened to show up a little early and they inspected my car within minutes. That’s what you call great service. Parking your car off the street on their drive way is a little tight, but overall very happy with the inspection.

My battery died and I needed a place that would replace it ASAP. They were so nice, super fast, and very fair on their labor charge. Thank you for saving me today!

Just pure awesomeness!. last night on my way home from work I noticed my car making a funny sound. looked on Unilocal to see where the nearest repair shop was to where I lived. Makiki Auto Repair popped up. I called them the next morning to see if I could drop in and have them check what was wrong. Even though they were backed up, Carlin said «sure come on by». He took my car for a test drive and had them put my car on the lift. sure enough my front brakes were goners. They fit my car in the same day and withing two hours i was back on the road. Working in the customer service field myself, I must say Makiki Auto went above and beyond. Although it’s a small establishment, they make sure that you get a fair deal, and youre well taken care of.

I needed to get a safety inspection and this place came highly recommended. Thanks Unilocalers! I called to make an appointment as suggested and was able to get one within 2 days — only because a safety inspection wouldn’t take too long. For repairs they were booked about 2 weeks out which tells you they’re that good! I was able to wait in the small office while they did the inspection. Everything was done in under 10 minutes! Excellent!

Fast professional service! For safety checks It’s better to make an appointment but they also accept walk ups.

Well run family business. Always passed by while driving down Beretania, but never knew about them until a co-​worker suggested I get a quote to get my front brakes replaced.
Called the shop, explained the situation, year/​make/​model of my car. set appointment for 2 weeks out (small shop they have 3 or 4 bays to work on cars). dropped my car off at 745a. at 9 received a call to confirm the repair and the cost (which was lower than what was quoted). received call back at 1130am to pick up the car. FAST & very efficient service.
They truly do business by word of mouth. Will be back for my automotive needs.

I live very close and always wanted to get my car/​truck fixed here but when I called the wait is too long to be scheduled.

Went in today for a safety check & it only cost me $ 20.09! They do business by appointment only, so be sure to call ahead. It’s family-​owned and operated & they are just wonderful.
If anything ever happens to my car, (knock on wood) I would definitely trust them with my car & fair pricing!

Honest and friendly. I had an oil leak. Lex Brody’s quoted me $ 386. Took it to Makiki Auto. He said I had a loose gasket and charged me $ 77 WITH an Oil Change. Lex Brody’s quoted me $ 1,100 for new brakes. Maiki Auto did it for $ 740. They have a big loyal following so plan ahead if possible. Typical wait is 2 – 3 weeks before they can take you. But they have always finsih the work witin the same day.

I highly recommend this place because they are honest, friendly and reliable. This is my second safety check done here and each time it was so easy to get an appointment. I’m a little bit earlier than my appointment time but they took me right away. I really appreciate how accommodating they are.
The driveway is very small and on any day, they might have 5 – 10 cars on the property. It can be a daunting task to get out of there so I really appreciate that they will move your car to face outward so you won’t have to reverse out onto the street.
With any car, it’s not if, but when you will need some repairs. I plan to have my car checked at Makiki Auto Repair!

After being overcharged for a simple job from a different car shop, I called to get an estimate to compare. When I complained about being over charged, the other car shop said that they charged me the reasonable cost other places would of charged me. When I called I told them the problem was the rear breaks wouldn’t turn off and I found the break stopper on the ground. They said to replace the stopper would cost me $ 40 which the other place charged me $ 98.27. That is a lot cheaper than what I paid. Based on the fact that there prices are reasonable and they would of been honest to do the job for a fair price I gave them 5 stars.

Aloha. Drove by establishment today after numerous unanswered calls. Seems everything is shut down. Is the business still operating? Anyone else have any 411? Mahalo.

I can’t rate this place yet because I haven’t brought in my car there. BUT, I did call to get an estimated price about how much it would cost to fix something (even though I knew exactly what was wrong) and the girl said NO they can’t give me an approximate price without looking at it. I mean, I tried to explain to her the problem but she wouldn’t listen and kept insisting they don’t do quotes over the phone. WELL… I called a couple other places and they all could quote me over the phone. I’m wondering why this place couldn’t…Wouldn’t people like to know how much money they would need in order to get a repair — since we are living in Hawaii and everything needs to be budgeted with other bills.
I can see that everyone that came here likes the place… I’m not hating on it or anything but I think that this issue could be an improvement for them then maybe I’ll change my star rating.

Brought my 24 year old honda accord in for service. They fixed everything and was very reasonably priced. Best mechanic I have ever had.

This is my second visit to Makiki Auto Repair. My car had a problem with the starter. Honda offered to fix it for $ 650. At 2pm in the afternoon, I drove into Makiki Auto Repair and asked Colin to look into it. By 230pm, I drove out of the shop with a new starter and paid $ 375. The two senior mechanics fixed my car in 30 minutes. I joked about the hourly rate x 2 and HAPPILY PAID the invoice. Upon leaving, I tapped the telephone pole while reversing. Ugh. They quickly ran out to help me, fix my bumper and remove the bent tail pipe portion that was unneeded. Makiki Auto Repair is top notch and I highly recommend them. Colin is so wonderful with his customers and I am totally satisfied with the services.

I do a lot of research before getting anything serviced or making large purchases. Unilocal was a big help here for helping me find a gem in service.
Makiki Auto Repair is top notch when it comes to service. Colin, owner, was great and over the top helpful. I mentioned that I was on a budget for getting the car fixed and let him know what I needed worked on. He came back with a price that fit in my budget and he held to it when the job was done. The work was completed in the same day.
From looking at the Unilocal reviews, I was worried about getting an appointment. Colin checked his appointment book and said he could get me in a week from that day. Cool. With the high reviews, I was expecting longer.
Colin gave me info on some other problems though never pushed to get them done. I did need a new tire (which he did not carry) though if I went and got it he would put it on right away (very small charge). I knew the tire was bad and forgot, he reminded me about the tire with the inspection of the car.
I did go back to Makiki Auto because I was having a problem starting the car (happening for about 6 months before going to Makiki Auto Repair). I was parked near and it would not start. Colin came over and took a look and grabbed one of his guys to help push the car into his shop (worked on it without an appointment). They saved me. Have not had a problem since.
I am so happy I found a shop I can trust.
