I loved them! The humor and performance exceeded my expectations. I would highly recommend going to their events for a night out, a date, or just to chill with friends and do something different for a change ;) will definitely check them out again!

Do you enjoy comedy? Ever tried your hand at it? Ever had the guts to take the stage and tell stories about how ridiculous your family is or how horrible people at the coffee shop are? This is the place to do just that. Mr. Aaron Presents offers up a welcoming environment for new and up and coming comedians who have the balls to take the stage and hopefully earn a few laughs from anyone attending. Aaron Pughes is one of the most genuine and funny guys around town who is constantly striving to nurture and build our local comic scene(bet you didn’t even know there was one). Sure, everyone who performs at Mr. Aaron Presents events may not be of the caliber associated with the likes of Dane Cook or Kat Williams or Margaret Cho(I personally think only one person on that short list is funny), but they sure give it a try. Everyone starts from somewhere and this is that place where comics go to get their start or continue their journey on Oahu. Much respect to Aaron and crew. Keep up the good work!

Always a fun show featuring top comics! The guys always look like they’re having a great time performing and it in turn spreads to the audience. The shows are interactive and you even get a chance to participate yourself! Good, fun, well-priced entertainment with a great crew of people! Worth it :)

I LOVE going to Mr. Aaron presents Comedy shows at the Showroom at Hawaiian Brian’s! I was just there last night. For those people that haven’t been to Hawaiian Brian’s in a long time, the stage area is fixed up nicely, the sound system better, the drinks are cheap and the stand-up performers(I’ve not seen the Improv shows yet but I plan to) are funny as hell! There are seasoned performers alongside newer up-and-coming comics, the comedy of both are fresh and hilarious, and the staff there are very nice. They have good pupus, too. Want some awesome laughs on a Tuesday night, or a cool place to bring visitors from the mainland to, or a place for a great date night? Come down to Mr. Aaron’s show!

Great variety of talented comics — standup, improv and a hilarious comic fortune-teller I was surprised how effective the black curtained room was at the back of the huge venue. Will definitely go back as soon as work let’s up. Love the talent and the intimate space. Thanks

I agree and disagree a little with both the positive and negative comments left here. As far as the negative comments go, yes, you may have been there on a rough night where there was little laughter going on and maybe some of the performers were newer to the game, but I think if you had actually corresponded more with the performers and taken things in more fully, you would have enjoyed the experience a lot more. I have been a performer and audience member on many nights and while it’s not always a 5 star experience, I have never left there feeling like I have wasted my time, or that the performers phoned it in. In fact, I would say that even when there are only a few people on the crowd, the majority of the acts still go out of their way to make sure they put on a quality show for you. Now as far as the positive review goes, I would say that(I’m speaking mostly about the Hawaiian Brian’s shows) while we have our share of newer, unpolished acts there, I would say a lot(if not most) of the performers there ARE professional. Not only have we had a handful of the best, well known, established(and«professional») local acts perform there(James Mane, Paul Kane, Jose Ver, Jose Dynamite, Grant Uchida, Anthony Silano, etc.) but there have also been a fair share of performances by comics who have toured the mainland extensively(Andy Bumatai, Luke Francis, Shawn Felipe, Michael C. Hall) and the improv shows feature some of Hawaii’s greatest improvisers on a regular basis. There are certainly more unrefined acts from time to time, but I would say that is the vast minority. Most of the people that perform at Aaron’s Tuesday shows are established-to-professional, or well on their way there. People may not have their minds blown on a weekly basis, but I think the idea of going to a comedy show is to laugh, feel good and forget about your worries and the fact that the vast majority of people that walk out of the shows leave with a smile on their face means that Aaron is more than holding his own and has been ultimately quite successful at establishing a great, fun place to go on Tuesday nights. People that are comedy savvy will be hard pressed to find something better to do on a Tuesday. There is a scene for«alternative comedy» in Hawaii. We’re waiting for you at Hawaiian Brian’s each Tuesday.

This is a good place for up and coming stand-up comedians to work on improving their craft. The first time I went there to watch I became a fan of Jonny Sparkles, who by the way have improved in so many ways since he first started appearing there. I would definitely recommend people to go here to watch how comics grow and improve in stand-up and/or improv comedy. Enjoy yourselves!

I’ve been to these events hosted by Mr. Aaron Presents and they are good. Well organized and well hosted. These Open Mics are exactly that, Open Mics for interested comedians to come out and test their comedic skills. Not all of the performers are seasoned, in fact many are not, but it is refreshing to see the artform that is stand-up comedy continued in these locations. Mr. Aaron Presents provides opportunity for interested individuals looking to attempt a career or further a hobby in stand-up comedy. This is not a professional comedy show, these performers have a passion and interest in comedy. One day these performers will polish their acts and possibly become the next Patton Oswald, Kat Williams, Lisa Lampanelli, Bill Hicks and so on. In the meantime they perform to friends, family and tough audiences around Honolulu. Comedy is rough and these performers deserve a mature audience to appreciate how hard it is to perform comedy and to perfect comedy. Most comedians spend hours writing new material and adjusting old material to present one funny bit. As an audience member we have to remember to not be so critical to amateur performers. Humor is individual. Performers cannot please all audience members. I appreciate and support all the performers of Mr. Aaron Presents and encourage others to take the time to come down and check it out. If you are looking for something different or if you are curious about performing stand-up comedy come down to Hawaiian Brian’s or The Station and get on stage! Be daring and have fun!

I don’t even want to put a star. These guys are not funny at all. The ONLY guy that had some pretty good stuff was called Sparkle or something. If anything there were like 2 or 3 people clapping during each bit. Good thing I went to Brian’s to play pool and not for this comedy show. What happened to all the good comedians?

i hate to dog this, b/c i know those guys on stage are trying really hard… and it takes a lot of guts to get up there and tell jokes… but… The«comedians» they feature are mostly not funny at all. They are usually dry, EXTREMELY homophobic(this is actually just one guy in particular), and just plain NOTFUNNY… The jokes usually bomb. Crickets all the time. There might be a few pity chuckles, but hardly are there any actual laughs… the audience is comprised of mostly friends of the comics, so of course some people will laugh and clap, but if you’re just in Brian’s you can still hear the show, and trust me, no one outside of the«audience» is laughing… The host guy is actually ok. he tells amusing stories. Other than him, its just irritating amateurs. once and a while, there is someone mildly funny(like Johnny Sparkles…), but this is rare. i have not heard them all… but the ones i have heard were pretty bad. and i’m not alone thinking this… i’ve heard other patrons of Brian’s while the show is going on, and they’re saying the same things i am. they might not be on Unilocal, but they share the same opinion. (p.s. — if u think I just don’t have a sense of humor… My favorite comedians are Lisa Lampinelli, Kat Williams and Margaret Cho… C’mon now — those guys are funny…) (p.p.s. — i get to voice my opinions just like anyone else can — if you’re going to get sensitive about my review, you should probably remember it is nothing personal. sheesh…)
